Team of the Week
Texas Tech
Texas Tech extended its conference play unbeaten streak to five games with back-to-back wins this past week. First, they hosted Oklahoma State and beat them 4-0 midweek. Peyton Parsons, Macy Blackburn, Taylor Zdrojewski, and Millie Elwood were the goal scorers. They then hosted ranked Kansas and beat them 2-0 over the weekend. Zdrojewski bagged a brace against the Jayhawks, giving her three goals for the week.
Next up for the Red Raiders is a big-time home matchup against ranked TCU on Friday.
Offensive Player of the Week
Erika Zschuppe – Senior – Midfielder – FGCU
Zschuppe scored six goals in two games this past week, starting with two against Jacksonville in a 5-0 home win. On Sunday, the senior midfielder added four more against North Florida. Zschuppe has scored in five straight games, scoring multiple goals in her past three, bringing her total goals scored for the season to 14, tied for the most in women’s Division I soccer.
FGCU and its top goal scorers’ next game is Thursday against North Florida again, this time on the road.
Defensive Player of the Week
Macy Blackburn – R-Senior – Texas Tech
Blackburn helped Texas Tech keep two more clean sheets this past week, increasing their season tally to seven total shutouts and three in a row. The redshirt senior also added a goal in their win against Oklahoma State, which was her 50th career goal contribution (8g/42a).
Goalkeeper of the Week
Hannah Goetzer – Junior – Loyola Maryland
Goetzer helped Loyola Maryland secure four points this past week, making eight saves in their 2-0 road win over American. The junior goalkeeper made another four saves in a 0-0 draw against Bucknell. These were Goetzer’s fourth and fifth clean sheets of the season and the 12 total saves this past week gives her the highest save percentage in women’s Division I soccer (92.5%).
Goetzer and Loyola Maryland travel to Lehigh for their next matchup on Friday.
Freshman of the Week
Annick Zouma – Forward – Alcorn
Zouma had four goal contributions (1g/3a) against Alabama State on Sunday, giving her 10 total GCs (5g/5a) for the year. The forward has eight GCs in her last four games (4g/4a) and is heating up at the right time during conference play.
Zouma and Alcorn have four straight road games to finish the regular season, starting with Southern University on Friday.
