Team of the Week
Princeton
Princeton finished Week 7 with two wins, two clean sheets, and jumped nine spots in our college poll. They started the week with a 2-0 road win against Army and then added their seventh straight win with a 1-0 result against Brown over the weekend.
Princeton sits at the top of the Ivy League, tied with Cornell, who they play on the road this Saturday.
Offensive Player of the Week
Arnau Farnos – Senior – Midfielder – Oregon State
Farnos was involved in all three of Oregon State’s goals this past weekend in their 3-0 over St. Mary’s. His two goals and assist put him firmly at the top of the WCC in goals scored (8) and points (20). The senior midfielder has now scored in five straight games, and he will be looking to keep that streak going on the road at LMU on Friday.
Defensive Player of the Week
Jesus De Vicente – Graduate Student – Virginia
De Vicente played the full 90 in back-to-back wins for Virginia this past week helping them get past Milwaukee at home 3-2 and then helping the defense secure a massive road clean sheet against our Week 6 #1-ranked NC State. The graduate student defender also had an assist on the game-winning goal against the Wolfpack helping the Cavaliers jump to #6 in our coaches poll.
De Vicente and Virginia host Notre Dame this Friday in another big ACC matchup.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Andrew Samuels – Junior – Princeton
Samuels played a massive role in Princeton’s wins this past week, helping them keep two clean sheets. He made five saves against Army and added three more against Brown. The junior’s save percentage has now climbed to 90.3% and is top five nationally in that category.
Freshman of the Week
Junior Diouf – Forward – Grand Canyon
Diouf had braces in back-to-back games this past week, increasing his overall goal contribution tally to 13 (10g/3a) through his first nine college appearances. The forward has the most points (23) of any freshman by a good margin and is sitting in the top 10 nationally in points and goals scored.
Diouf has a goal contribution in four straight games and will look to keep that streak alive on Thursday at San Diego State.
