College Soccer News National Team Of The Week – Week Ending September 28, 2014

Ricardo Velazco – Junior – Forward – Louisville Velazco is a playmaker.  He skillfully placed a shot just inside the left post from ten yards out and assisted on Tim Kubel's game-winner to play a key role in Louisville's 2-1 on the road win over in-state rival Kentucky.  He also found the back of the net twice to help the Cardinals top ACC foe Pittsburgh 4-1.  Louisville has now won four straight to improve to 5-1-1.   
Brandon Allen – Junior – Forward – Georgetown Allen netted two second half goals to propel the Blue and Gray past Butler 2-0 in a Big East Conference match-up.  Allen's first goal came out of a penalty kick after he was fouled in the box. He netted the insurance goal out of a coutner attack with a nice assist from sophomore forward Alex Muyl.  Georgetown is 5-1-3 with a 1-0-0 mark in Big East play.  
Kieran Roberts – Freshman – Forward – Radford  Roberts had a very productive week of play.  He drove a header into the back of the net out of a set piece in the 97th minute of play to propel Radford past Appalachian State 1-0 in overtime. Freshman Fraser Colmer contributed the assist. Roberts also netted a hat trick to help power the Highlanders past Presbyterian 6-1 in a Big South Conference contest.  
Conor Maloney – Sophomore – Forward – Penn State  Maloney continues to make things happen on he offensive side of the ball for the Nittany Lions. He scored twice to lead Penn State past the Pen Quakers 6-2 and contributed the assist on teammate Brandon Savino's goal.  He also scored the lone goal in Penn State's Big Ten Conference win over Michigan.  Maloney has now found the back of the net seven times so far this season. Penn State improves to 8-0-1.   
Alan Reiter – Senior – Midfielder – Davidson Reiter sent a one-timer into the lower left corner of the net from eighteen yards out after receiving a well played ball from Maxi Pragnell in Davidson's 2-1 win over Virginia. He also decisively placed a header into the top left corner of the frame out of a corner kick served in by teammate Luke Blades to help the Wildcats top Campbell 3-1 to improve to 5-0-2. Davidson is off to its best start since 1982.  
Zev Taublieb – Senior – Midfielder – Valparaiso  The Crusader captain's first goal of the 2014 campaign was a big one. Taublieb alertly controlled a rebound and then redirected it into the back of the net in overtime to give Valpo the edge they needed to top Loyola 1-0.  He repeated that feat scoring Valpo's first goal in ther 2-1 win over Belmont in a Horizon League contest.  The Brown and Gold improve to 5-1-2 overall and are 1-0-0 in conference play.  
Magnus Thorsson – Junior – Midfielder – Winthrop Thorsson, who hails from Reykavik, Iceland, scored twice to lead the Eagles past a good ETSU team 4-2.  He also drove a header into the back of the net out of a corner kick served in by teammate Pol Sole to help Winthrop top Liberty 2-0.  The Eagles have won four straight to improve to 7-2-0.  
Drew Murphy – Sophomore – Defender – UC Santa Barbara Murphy was a factor on both sides of the ball in UCSB's 1-0 win over San Diego State and 4-1 win over Drake.  He assisted on Nick DePuy's game winner in the contest with San Diego State and contributed a goal and an assist in the win over Drake.  Freshman forward Ludwig Ahl also scored twice in the match with Drake. The Gauchos are now 4-3-1.    
Devin Morgan – Senior – Defender – Cornell   Morgan converted a picture perfect header coming out of a corner kick with teammate Conor Goepel alertly contributing the assist when he controlled a clearance and sent it back into the box.  The goal proved to be the difference in the Big Red's 1-0 win over Hartwick.  Morgan also produced what proved to be the game winning goal in Cornell's 5-0 thumping of Buffalo. Cornell is now 6-2-1 overall. 
Jacob VanCompernolle – Senior – Defender – UNCW The senior back from Dallas, Texas converted a header out of a corner kick put in play by senior midfielder Mateo Cardona and utilized his left foot to drive a shot into the right far post with an assist from Brayden Smith to give the Seahawks the edge they needed to top Duke 2-1. UNCW also defeated William and Mary on the road 1-0 with Cardona netting the game winner to up their record to 7-1-1.  
Patrick Wall – Graduate Student – Goalkeeper – Notre Dame The Irish netminder was rock solid in goal in Notre Dame's 2-0 win over highly regarded North Carolina.  He had six saves including several that fell within the exceptional category.  Bobby Clark stated, "Pat Wall does it every week.  He's like an extra coach in your back four."  Clark added, "There's no question he's one of the reasons we won the game against North Carolina.  He's a game-changer and that's what a good goalkeeper is about."  Notre Dame improves to 4-1-2.
