Alex Willis – Freshman – Forward – Northern Kentucky | Willis had a productive five goal and three assist week to help power Northern Kentucky to a 3-2 win over Canisius, a 2-1 win over Duquesne, and a 3-2 win in overtime against Robert Morris. The Norse, under the direction of second year head coach Stu Riddle, improve to 4-0-0. Northern Kentucky begins Horizon League play on Saturday when they welcome Wright State to NKU Soccer Staduim. | |
Tony Pineda – Freshman – Forward – High Point | Pineda made a nice move to create the space he needed to drill a shot into the right upper-90 from eighteen yards out to score what proved to be the game winning goal in High Point's 2-1 win over Davidson. He also scored HPU's first goal with a double assist from Josh Baker and Siggi Benonysson in the Panther's 3-2 overtime win on the road against ETSU. Pineda also contributed the helper on Ilias Kosmidis' goal in the contest with ETSU. The Panthers, who are 3-0-0, will travel to face UNCG on Tuesday. . | |
Jaime Delor- Sophomore – Forward – Grand Canyon | Delor's first goal at GCU was a big one. The sophomore transfer from Southwest Mississippi Comunity College converted a bicycle kick from inside the box in the eightieth minute of play to give the Lopes the edge they needed to upset Creighton 1-0 before a crowd of 3,402 fans at GCU Stadium. Credit backs Austin Day, Malik Smith and Sam Gardner and goalkeeper George Tasouris with a solid evening on the defensive side of the ball for Grand Canyon. | |
Daniele Proch – Junior – Midfielder – Duke | Proch earns back-to-back spots on the CSN National Team of the Week with a two goal evening in Duke's 4-1 win over San Diego. Proch placed a shot just inside the left post from twenty yards out and converted a header with an assist from teammate forward Issa Rayyan. The Blue Devils improve to 3-0-0. Duke will begin ACC play on Sunday when they travel to tangle with Louisville. | |
Zach Zandi – Senior – Midfielder – Villanova | Zandi contributed a goal and two assists including the helper on teammate Yusuf Cueceoglu's game winning goal in overtime in Villanova's 3-2 victory over William and Mary. He also netted the game winning goal in overtime in Villanova's 1-0 win over Loyola. The Wildcat captain has been a force on the offensive side of the ball in each of Villanova's three wins to date. | |
Noah Jensen – Sophomore – Midfielder – Oakland | The contribution that defensive center midfielders make often does not show up in the stats. Jensen played a key role in three Oakland on the road wins. The Golden Grizzlies began the week with a 3-2 win over Marshall. They then topped DePaul 2-1 and Loyola Chicago 6-1 in the Hampton Inn at Loyola Chicago Classic. Jensen was named the Tournament MVP. Oakland improves to 3-0-1. The Golden Grizzlies host UIC on Saturday in a huge Horizon League contest. | |
Lucas Bartlett – RS Sophomore – Defender – Drake | Bartlett was a difference maker in Drake's 2-1 on the road upset of Butler and in their 3-1 win over UIC. Bartlett headed in a corner kick in the eighty-seventh minute of play that was served in by redshirt junior midfielder Cole Poppen to give Drake the edge they needed to top Butler. He also scored out of a free kick with Poppen again contributing the helper in Drake's win over UIC. The Bulldogs up their record to 2-1-0 after opening the season with a 1-0 loss to Oral Roberts. | |
Walid Kherat – RS Junior – Defender – Bradley | Kherat made an impact on both sides of the ball as Bradley improved to 3-0-1 after securing a 1-0 win over IUPUI and a 2-1 win over Princeton in the Danny Dahlquist Memorial Game. Kherat was a part of a solid Bradley defense that allowed a total of six shots on goal during the week. He assisted on Gerit Wintermeyer's game winning header in the victory over IUPUI and converted a header out of a free kick served in by Younes Dayekh in the win over Princeton. The Braves are off to their best start since the 2011 campaign. | |
Patrick Berneski – Senior – Defender – Notre Dame | Berneski anchored an Irish defense that shutout Connecticut 3-0 holding the Huskies to a total of only four shots. He also converted a header out of a corner kick in the win over UConn. In Notre Dame's 2-0 win over Dartmouth, Berneski drove a header into the back of the frame put in play by Felicien Dumas and was a key element in a rock solid Irish defense. Notre Dame improves to 2-0-1. | |
Andrew Gutman – Senior – Defender – Indiana | Gutman was a contributor on both sides of the ball for Indiana. He sent a header into the back of the net out of a free kick and assisted on Dorsey Griffin's goal in IU's 3-0 win over Dartmouth. He also sent a header into the back of the frame out of a corner kick served in by Trevor Swartz to give the Hoosiers the edge they needed to top UConn 1-0. | |
Ruben Stuiver – Sophomore – Goalkeeper – San Francisco | Stuiver had an eight save evening to anchor a San Francisco defense that shutout UCLA 1-0 in Los Angeles on Sunday. Junior midfielder Sean Bowman scored what proved to be the game winning goal for the Dons out of a counter attack after receiving a cross from forward Jorge Ruiz. San Francisco improves to 2-0-1. The Dons have the opportunity to record another signature win when they host highly regarded Stanford on Friday. |
