Men’s College Soccer Week 7 Awards

The top three teams in our national rankings had strong performances this past week, so did a freshman out of Fairfield. Notre Dame was upset after a strong performance from California’s goalkeeper Adam Salama.

Here’s our Week 7 awards for men’s soccer:

Team of the Week

Georgetown

Georgetown had another dominant week as they maintained their place in the Top 5 of our national rankings beating Providence 6-1. The Hoyas have now won five straight and have scored at least three goals in all five of those games. They will look to maintain their perfect start in Big East play on the road against St. John’s this weekend.

Offensive Player of the Week

Stephane Njike – Junior – Forward – Indiana

Stephane Njike had a goal and an assist against Maryland in a big time ranked matchup. Njike now has multiple goal contributions in back-to-back weeks as he is now rounding into goal production form. All seven of his goal contributions (2g/5a) have come in his past six starts.

Defensive Player of the Week

Lukas Magnason – Junior – Centerback – Clemson

Lukas Magnason had goal and an assist against Wofford and then followed up that performance with another assist against UNCW. The Junior continues to be a key piece of the Tigers backline as he has helped them extend their winning streak to four in a row.

Goalkeeper of the Week

Adam Salama – Graduate Student – California

Adam Salama has earned back-to-back road clean sheets highlighted by a five-save performance against ranked Notre Dame helping California earn a 2-0 victory. Salama has now kept five shutouts this season and will look to keep his streak going at Virginia on Friday.

Freshman of the Week

Cristiano Carlos – Forward – Fairfield

Cristiano Carlos has a goal contribution in every appearance he has made this season. This past week he had four assists. He started last week with two assists against Saint Peter’s and followed that performance up with another two assists against Manhattan. Carlos now has 10 goal contributions (5g/5a) in 457 minutes.
