College Soccer News – National Team of the Week – Week Ending September 9, 2018

Omir Fernandez – Sophomore – Forward – Wake Forest  Fernandez did a great job of finishing the opportunities that came his way.  He sloted a shot into the far post after receiving a cross from Logan Gdula and one-timed a shot into the back of the frame after receiving a cross from Justin McMaster in Wake Forest's 3-0 win over N.C. State. Brad Dunwell also assisted on the first goal and Bruno Lapa on the second.  Fernandez also scored in Wake Forest's 4-1 win over Presbyterian.  
Ryan Sierakowski – Senior – Forward – Michigan State Sierakowski scored and contributed an assist on the goals of teammates Hunter Barone and Robbie Cort in Michigan State's 5 to 1 win over UC Riverside.  He also scored the Spartans' first goal with a helper from Michael Pimott in their 3-0 win over Bowling Green. MIchigan State is now 4-0-1.  The Spartans will host a good Oakland team on Monday.   
JJ Williams – Junior – Forward – Kentucky Williams scored twice in the first half of play to create the momentum that the Wildcats needed to upset Louisville 3-0.  His first score came after receiving a long pass from Tanner Hummel. His second goal was a header inside the near post with Marcel Meinzer and Hummel assisting.  Williams also added the insurance goal with Meinzer providing the helper in Kentucky's 2-0 win over UAB in CUSA play.  The Wildcats are 4-0-0 for the first time since the 2009 campaign. 
Simon Enstrom – Senior – Forward – Boston College  Enstrom came up through in the clutch for the Eagles in their ACC 3-2 come from behind win over Clemson.  He provided the assist on teammate Callum Johnson goal, converted a header out of a corner kick served in by Kristofer Konradsson to tie the game at 2-2, and scored the game-winning goal from the top of the box in the eighty-ninth minute of play.  Boston College improves to 2-0-2.   
Matt McDonnell – Junior – Forward – Boston University  McDonnell is a playmaker. The striker from Smithtown, New York scored twice in the second half of play to help the Terriers come from behind to top Massachusetts 3-2.  He placed a shot jpt ball into the right post after receiving a cross from Satchel Cortet and alertly controlled and sent a rebound into the back of the net that tied the contest at 2-2.  Freshman Kari Petursson then netted what proved to be the game-winning goal from twenty-five yards out. 
Shinya Kadono – Senior – Midfielder – California  Kadono had a banner evening scoring four goals and contributing an assist to help power California by Sacramento State 6-2. One of his goals was a penatly kick, one was a header, and two came out of the run of play. The Golden Bears also tied UC Riverside 0-0 on Sunday.  California is 3-1-1.  
Simen Hestnes – Senior – Midfielder – Xavier Hestnes scored and assisted on the goals of teammates Tomek Pauer and Samson Sergi to play a key role in Xavier's 3-1 win over crosstown rival Cincinnati.  The Musketeers improve to 2-0-2 overall.  Xavier has a tough contest coming up on Tuesday when they host a hot Kentucky squad.  
Tucker Bone – Senior – Midfielder – Air Force  Bone had a productive week of play.  He contributed a goal and assisted on teammate Austin Dewing's score in a 3-1 win over North Florida.  He also scored and provided the helper on Luis Martinez's goal in a 3-0 win over a very good Colgate team.  Air Force has won five straight to improve to 5-1-0 after beginning the season with a 2-1 loss on the road to Virginia Tech.  
Derek Waldeck – Junior – Midfielder – Stanford Waldeck drove the game-wnning goal into the near left post in Stanford's 2-0 on the road win over a good San Francisco team. Waldeck's score was set up by a nice pass from Logan Pancot and a back-heel flick from Zach Ryan.  Waldeck also utilized his left foot to serve in a corner kick that set up senior center back Adam Mosharrafa's header. Stanford improves to 1-0-3.  
Felician Dumas – Senior – Defender – Notre Dame Dumas contributed the assist on Patrick Berneski's header and sent a bending ball into the top right corner of the goal out of a free kick to score the game-winning goal in Notre Dame's 3-2 win over Syracuse in Atlantic Coast Conference play.  The Irish improve to 3-0-1. Notre Dame will be tested when they host highly regarded Indiana out of the Big Ten on Tuesday.  
Kolade Salaudeen – RS Freshman – Defender – Oregon State Salaudeen, who hails from South Croydon, England, was a key part of a solid Oregon State defense that shutout Penn State 1-0 and topped CSU Bakersfield 3-1. Oregon State is off to a 3-1-1 start.  Salaudeen and his Beaver teammates will  be tested on Monday when they host a UC Davis team that has been scoring in multiples.  
Sawyer Jackman – Senior – Goalkeeper – UIC  Jackman took care of business between the pipes for UIC.  He anchored a Flame defense that shutout Western Michigan 1-0 and contained a very good Oakland team on the road 4-1 in a key Horizon League contest.  Jackman came up with the big and timely saves he needed to make to give his team the oppotunity to prevail. After being upset by Drake, UIC rebounds with two good wins to improve to 4-1-0.
