College Soccer News National Player Of The Week – Week Ending November 23, 2014

Leo Stolz – Senior – Midfielder – UCLA –

Stolz led the way for the UCLA Bruins who had to come from behind to defeat a very determined San Diego team 2-1 in overtime on Sunday night.  The contest was the seventh of the year in which UCLA has gone into extra time. Stolz netted the equalizer in the contest and pumped new life into the Bruins when he drove a shot out of a free kick from thirty yards out into the bottom right corner of the net in the 55th minute of the game. He netted the game-winner seven minutes into the first overtime session when he drove a shot into the back of the net from the middle of the box using his left foot after freshman forward Abu Danladi set it up by beating his man and then dropping off a ball that Stolz ran onto and finished with his left foot. Stolz has scored a total of nine goals thus far in the 2014 season.

Bruin head coach Jorge Salcedo stated, "The game winning goal was a great individual play by Abu (Danladi) and a really good finish from Leo."

UCLA improves to 12-4-4 overall and advances to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth time in the past six seasons where they will host a familiar foe in Califonia on Sunday, November 30.  The Bruins were defeated by California 3-2 in overtime on October 10 in Berkeley and 1-0 on November 2 in Los Angeles when the two teams faced each other during regular season play.
