Team of the Week
UNC Greensboro
UNC Greensboro had a near-perfect week. First, they hosted our #8-ranked High Point and were able to find two first-half goals. Even after absorbing some pressure in the second half, they were able to hold on comfortably and win 2-0. During the weekend, they hosted VMI and also finished the job with another 2-0 win. UNCG’s junior forward Enzo Dovlo added to his team-leading goal contribution tally (7g/6a) with two assists against High Point.
UNCG has a big road matchup tonight against our #6-ranked Virginia.
Offensive Player of the Week
Edouard Nys – Junior – Midfielder – UIC
Nys had back-to-back braces this past week on the road. Midweek, he scored two goals to bring UIC back level against Marquette 3-3, in a thrilling 5-4 loss. On Sunday, Nys had another brace after hitting the late game winner to give Belmont their first loss of the season.
Nys and UIC will host Evansville this Saturday in what looks to be a key battle for the Missouri Valley Regular Season Title.
Defensive Player of the Week
Luca Nikolai – Junior – Defender – UNC
Nikolai had a massive week on both sides of the ball for the Tar Heels. The defender had a brace against Lipscomb midweek and then two assists against St. Thomas (MN) on Saturday. Nikolai also played the full 90 in both games, helping UNC keep two clean sheets.
UNC hosts UAB on Wednesday and then Virginia Tech on Sunday this week.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Seth Wilson – R-Junior – UNCG
While much of the focus from UNCG’s performance against High Point will be on Dovlo’s two assists, their goalkeeper also had a standout performance, making a season-high five saves against a top 10 team. Wilson and UNCG’s defense have kept three clean sheets in their past four games, after not keeping a shutout through their first eight games.
Freshman of the Week
Joby Reid – Forward – Houston Christian
Reid had a goal and an assist against Eastern Illinois on Thursday this past week, helping Houston Christian go on to win 3-0. The Huskies and Reid went on to win their third straight game over the weekend against Western Illinois. Reid leads Houston Christian in assists (4) and has the second-most goal contributions on the team (7).
The Huskies hit the road to play against SIUE on Thursday and Lindenwood on Sunday.
