The Team Of The Week Recognizes Players Who Were Difference Makers For Their Teams During The Week

Gage Guerra – Junior – Forward – Louisville – Guerra scored twice including the equalizer in the 89th minute of play in Louisville’s 2-2 tie with Syracuse on the road. He also scored twice to help power the Cardinals to a 4-2 win over a very good Kentucky team. Guerra is among the reasons why the Cardinals are off to an impressive 4-0-1 record.
Ulfur Bjornsson – Freshman – Forward – Duke – Bjornsson scored Duke’s first goal with an assist from midfielder Cameron Kerr in the Blue Devil’s 2-0 on the road win over Princeton and opened the scoring for Duke in their subsequent win over ACC foe Virginia at Koskinen Stadium in Durham. The Blue Devils are 4-0-1. Duke has a tough game coming up on Friday at Clemson.
Carlos Fernandez – Senior – Forward – Delaware – Fernandez scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with an assist from forward Justin Ruth in Delaware’s 3-2 win on the road over Mount Saint Mary’s. He followed that up with a hat trick to led the Blue Hens in a 3-2 come from behind win over William and Mary in a CAA contest. Delaware improves to 4-1-0.
Marcus Caldeira – Sophomore – Forward – West Virginia – Caldiera continues to come up with big plays for the Mountaineers. This week he scored their first goal in their 2-1 win on the road win over American. He also scored in the last minute of regulation in the Mountaineers 1-0 win over a highly regarded Portland team. Caldeira has six goals to date for a West Virginia team that is 5-0-0 for the first time since 1975.
Austin Brummett – Sophomore – Forward – San Diego State University – Brummett began the week with a goal and two assists in San Diego State’s 3-0 win over George Washington. He followed that up by sending a one-timer into the back of the frame out of a counter attack with a double assist from Alexander Levengood and Beto Apolinar in the Aztecs 2-0 win over UC Riverside. San Diego State improves to 4-0-1. The Aztecs have not allowed a goal in their first five matches for the first time in program history.
Josef Paulus – Senior – Midfielder – Akron – Paulus scored the lone goal in Akron’s 1-0 win over Southern Indiana and contributed the game-winning goal with a double assist from Jason Shokalook and Stefan Dobrijevic in their subsequent 2-1 win over Long Island University. Akron has a difficult contest on Monday when they host FIU. The Zips are 4-0-1.
Michael Hewes – Senior – Midfielder – Penn – Hewes came up big for Penn scoring three times to power the Quakers over Penn State 3-0 in University Park. The win was Penn’s first ever over the Nittany Lions at University Park. The Quakers will seek to secure another on the road victory when they travel to face Rider on Tuesday.
Vincente Valor Martinez – Senior – Midfielder – Bryant – Martinez, a senior transfer from Franklin Pierce, scored and contributed two assists to play a key role in Bryant’s 4-0 win over Holy Cross. Bryant is now 4-0-0 on the season.
Rom Brown – Senior – Midfielder – Northwestern – Brown came through in the clutch for the Wildcats with a two goal evening than included the game winning goal with 14 ticks remaining in regulation to propel Northwestern past NIU 2-1. Brown has three goals including two game-winners on the season. The Wildcats are 4-0-1.
Kisa Kiingi – Senior – Defender – Cornell – Kiingi scored the goal that Cornell needed to top a good New Hampshire team 1-0 on the road. He was also part of a solid Big Red defense that was anchored in goal by Ryan Friedberg who had a seven save evening. Kiingi also contributed a helper on one of teammate Alex Harris’ two goals in Cornell’s 4-2 win over Canisius. The Big Red secure two wins to improve to 2-1-0 after a tough 1-0 season opening loss to Vermont.
Paul Brauckmann – Sophomore – Defender – UIC – Brauckmann contributed on both sides of the ball for the Flames. He put in a full 90 shift on the defensive side of the ball in UIC’s 2-0 win over Wisconsin and 2-1 win over Loyola. He also skillfully drove a shot into the upper left corner of the goal out of a free kick to net what proved to be the game-winner in the win over Loyola. UIC is 4-0-1 and will face Northwestern in what shapes up to be an interesting contest on Monday.
Cole Johnson – Senior – Goalkeeper – SMU – Johnson anchored a stout Mustang defense that posted shutouts over Oral Roberts 1-0 and Saint Louis 1-0. He had had seven save week in route to recording his third shutout of the season to date. SMU improves to 4-1-0.
