Alex Spaanstra – Junior – Forward – Virginia
Spaanstra who is from Brighton, Michigan had a very productive four goal week during which she utilized her quickness, touch on the ball, and finishing skills to score four times to help power Virginia past SIUE 3-1 and number 12 seed BYU 2-0 in the NCAA Tournament.
Spaanstra made a move up the right flank then cut back along the top of the box to create the angle she needed to place a shot into the near post and converted a penalty kick after drawing a foul inside the box in the win over SIUE. She followed that up with an impressive two goal evening in the second round win over BYU.
The Cavaliers improve to 12-4-2 and advance to face Rice out of CUSA in what will be a very competitive third round matchup.
