Dylan Gaither – Junior – Midfielder – Mercer
Gaither had a three goal evening to provide the punch that Mercer needed to roll past Furman 4-0 in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament. Three of Mercers goals including two of Gaither’s goals came in the second half of play.
Gaither has been a force for the Bears with 11 goals on the season.
The Bears advance to what should be an exciting championship match where they will face a surging Belmont team that defeated ETSU 1-0 and upset number one seed UNCG 2-1 to advance to the final.
Gaither and his Mercer teammates will have their work cut out for them with the Southern Conference’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament on the line. Mercer edged Belmont 3-2 in overtime when the two teams faced each other in Macon on October 23. In that contest Belmont came from two goals down to tie the contest and send it into extra time where senior forward Trevor Martineau scored the game-winner for Mercer.
