College Soccer News – Women’s National Team of the week – week ending february 7, 2021

the college soccer news team of the week recognizes individuals who played a key role in the success that their teams had during the week.

Ariel Diaz – Senior – Forward – Southern Mississippi – Diaz scored twice in the second half to lead the Golden Eagles in a 2-0 season-opening win over Nicholls State. Southern Mississippi will seek to build on that win when they travel to Mobile to tangle with South Alabama on Sunday, February 14 c
Nicole Douglas – Junior – Forward – Arizona State – Douglas had a very productive week of play scoring twice in the Sun Devils 3-1 win over UTEP and three times in their 4-0 win over New Mexico State. Arizona State travels to Phoenix to face Grand Canyon on Thursday, February 11.
Jill Aguilera – Senior – Forward – Arizona – Aguilera scored and contributed the helper on teammate Ava McCray’s goal to help the Wildcats top Grand Canyon 4-1 in their season opener. She followed that up with a two goal performance in Arizona’s 2-0 victory over the UTEP Miners. The Wildcats will host New Mexico State on Saturday, February 13.
Cameron Tucker – Senior – Forward – BYU – Tucker found the back of the net three times to power BYU past in-state rival Utah 5-1 in an impressive season opening performance. The Cougars have challenging on the road contests coming up on Friday, February 12 against UCLA and Monday, February 15 against USC.
Elyse Bennett – Senior – Forward – Washington State – The Cougars resumed their winning ways returning to the field of play for the first time in 429 days to secure a 2-1 win over Seattle. Bennett and teammate Margie Detrizio assisted on Alyssa Gray’s goal. Bennett also contributed what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Thais Reiss – Senior – Midfielder – North Florida – Reiss has been an impact player since arriving on campus as a freshman. She scored twice to play a key role in North Florida’s 2021 spring season opening 4-0 win over rival Jacksonville. The Ospreys will host another in-state foe when they square off with FIU on Friday, February 12.
Marley Canales – Senior – Midfielder – UCLA – The Bruin midfielder who missed the later part of the 2019 season due to an ACL injury returned to the pitch with an impressive three assist evening in UCLA’s season opening 3-0 win against a good Pepperdine team. UCLA will host BYU on Friday, February 12 in a contest that will have national implications.
Natalie Wodka – Junior – Defender – Abilene Christian – Wodka came through in the clutch twice during the week. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime in Abilene Christian’s 1-0 win over West Texas A and M. She also netted the game-winner in the 99th minute of play to enable the Wildcats to come from two goals down to defeat Lubbock Christian 3-2. Abilene Christian hosts Texas A and M – Corpus Christi in a Southland Conference contest on Friday, February 12.
Kalee Williams – Junior – Defender – Northwestern State – Williams contributed on both sides of the ball for the Lady Demons. She scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in NSU’s 2-1 win on the road over Louisiana Tech and found the back of the net twice in a 3-0 win over UL Monroe. Northwestern State will seek to keep the momentum going when they travel to face Sam Houston on Friday, February 12.
Mackenzie Lutz – Sophomore – Defender – Dayton – Lutz put in a full shift in the back to help a young Dayton side shutout Bellarmine 2-0 in the Flyers season opener. Dayton returns to field of play when they travel to face Butler on Sunday, February 21.
Vivianne Bessette – Freshman – Defender – South Florida – Bessette made an impact on both sides of the ball in her collegiate debut. She scored out of a free kick and was part of a solid South Florida defensive effort that shutout FAU 3-0. on the road. The Bulls open AAC play when they travel to Dallas to face SMU on Friday, February 14.
Mia Krusinski – Freshman – Goalkeeper – FGCU – Krusinski had a solid eight save evening between the pipes to anchor a FGCU defense that shutout Utah Valley 1-0 in FGCU’s season opening win. Sophomore Louise Lillback provided the game-winning goal with an assist from Alyssa Abbondandolo . The Eagles will host FAU on Thursday, February 11.
