College Soccer News Women’s National Team Of The Week – Week Ending August 20, 2023.

The team of the week recognizes players who were difference makers for their teams during the week.

Trinity Byars – Junior – Forward – Texas – Byars hit the ground running for the Longhorns with two goals in their season opening win over Long Beach State and a hat trick in their win over Rice. Texas is off to a 2-0-0 start.
Kat Van Booven – Junior – Forward – Milwaukee – Van Booven scored in the Panthers’ the Panthers’ season opening 2-2 draw with nationally ranked Notre Dame in South Bend and added the insurance goal in their 3-1 win over SIUE in Edwardsville to start the season on a very positive note.
Grayson Lynch – Fifth Year Senior – Forward Washington State – Lynch came through in the clutch for the Cougars with a two goal evening in a gutsy 3-2 on the road win over Texas A and M. She was also a very attack part of the Cougar offense in their season opening win over Eastern Washington.
Elysia Laramie – Redshirt Senior – Forward – Long Beach State – Laramie scored and contributed an assist in Long Beach States season opening 4-3 loss to Texas and four times in their subsequent 4-2 win for a five goal and one assist first week of play.
Camryn Davis – Sophomore – Midfielder – Jacksonville State – Davis found the back of the net a total of five as Jax State began their first season as a member of CUSA with convincing non-conference wins over Alabama A and M and South Carolina State.
Tatum Wynalda – Sophomore – Midfielder – Pepperdine – Wynalda scored the equalizer with three minutes remaining in regulation in Pepperdine’s 1-1 season opening win over highly regarded Georgetown and netted the equalizer for the Wave in their 2-2 tie with visiting Michigan.
Taylor Huff – Junior – Midfielder – Florida State – It didn’t take long for Huff to make an impact for the Seminoles. She scored the game-winning goal for FSU in the 86th minute of play in their season opening on the road win over Texas A and M in College Station and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal from 25 yards out in their 2-0 win over TCU in Fort Worth.
Saorla Miller – Fifth Year Senior – Midfielder – Memphis – Miller scored twice in Memphis’ season opening win over Southern and converted the lone goal of the match to give the Tigers the edge they needed to top Ole Miss 1-0.
Deja Sandoval – Fifth Year Senior – Defender – UTSA – Sandoval was a crucial part of a solid Roadrunner defense helping UTSA open the 2023 season with a 5-1 win over Central Arkansas and a 2-0 win over McNeese State. She also drove a header in the back of the frame to open the scoring in the win over Central Arkansas.
Nora Green-Orset – Sophomore – Defender – William and Mary – The Tribe center back was a key contributor on both sides of the ball. She was a key ingredient in a stout William and Mary defense that opened the season with shutouts over Temple and Saint Joseph’s. She also converted a header out of a corner kick in the win over Temple.
Jazmin Brown – Sophomore – Defender – Kansas State – Brown scored twice in Kansas State’s season opening win over Green Bay and was vital part of a tenacious Wildcat defense anchored in goal by Murphy Sheaff that secured a 0-0 draw with a very competitive Northwestern team.
Pauline Nelles – Sophomore- Goalkeeper – Arizona State – Nelles had a nine save week anchoring a Sun Devil defense that didn’t allow a goal with a season opening 4-0 win over Wright State followed by a scoreless tie with Mississippi State.
