College Soccer News National Team Of The Week – Week Ending September 8, 2013

Cristian Mata, Sophomore, Forward, Tulsa 

Mata scored a goal and contributed an assist in Tulsa's 4-1 win over Ohio State.  He also netted a goal and added a helper in Tulsa's 2-0 win over SIUE.  Mata was named the Tournament MVP of the Holiday City Cener Golden Hurricane Classic. 

Joey Calistri, Sophomore, Forward, Northwestern 

Calistri assisted on Brandon Medina's game-winning goal in overtime in Northwestern's 1-0 win over DePaul.  He also scored out of a throw-in and alertly controled a rebound that he drove into the back of he net to lead Northwestern to a 2-0 victory over Xavier.  The Wildcats are 2-1-0. 

Pete Caringi III, Senior, Forward, UMBC

Caringi continues to find the back of the net on a consistent basis for the Rerievers.  He scored twice in their 3-1 win over Central Connecticut State.  He also scored twice to lead UMBC to a 3-1 win over St. Francis Brooklyn.   

Brian Behrad, Senior, Forward, Cal State Northridge

Behrad netted what provided to be the game-winning goal with an assist from Steven Manios in CSUN's 2-1 victory over San Diego.  He also came up big for the Matadors scoring two goals in their 2-1 win over Saint Mary's (CA).  Cal State Northridge is 4-0-0 for the first time ever in Division I play.   

Rodrigo Fuentes, Sophomore, Midfielder, UNLV 

Fuentes scored two goals and contributed an assist to play a key role in UNLV's 4-1 win over Bradley.  He also scored a nice goal out of a free kick in UNLV's 4-2 win over Georgia State. Fuentes was named the MVP of the UNLV NIke Invitational.  

Tomislav Zadro, Senior, Midfielder, Wisconsin

Zadro netted a goal and an assist in Wisconsin's 3-2 win over Western Michigan.  He scored the equalizer with seconds remaining to send the Badgers into ot with DePaul and then assisted on Jacob Brindle's game-winning goal as Wisconsin topped DePaul 3-2.   

Thomas McNamara, GS, Midfielder, Clemson

McNamara has added a different dimension to the Tiger attack.  This week he scored out of a free kick from twenty-two yards out to lead Clemson to a 2-0 win over Virginia.  He also scored out of a free kick and contributed an assist in Clemson's 3-0 win over Gardner-Webb. The Tigers are 4-0-0.  

Devon Fisher, RS Sophomore, Midfielder, VCU 

Fisher provided the equalizer for VCU when he sloted a shot just inside the far post to enable the Rams to tie New Mexico 1-1.  He also scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute of play scoring out of a breakaway from twelve yards out in VCU's come from behind 3-2 win over Maryland in College Park.  

Taylor Peay, Senior, Defender, Washington

Peay was outstanding on both sides of the ball in Washington's 4-1 win over Santa Clara and 4-1 win over Portland.  In the contest with Santa Clara he scored on a header out of a throw-in, converted a header out of a corner kick, and scored from fifteen yards out.  He also contributed a goal in the win over Portland.  

Axel Sjoberg, RS Sophomore, Defender, Marquette The central defender from Stockholm, Sweden anchored a Marquette defense that shutout Bowling Green 3-0 and topped Drake 4-1.  He also scored on a header out of a corner kick in the victory over Drake.  For his efforts he was named the MVP of the Panther Invitational.  
Sam Frymier, Sophomore, Goalkeeper, Duquesne

Frymier has anchored a Duquesne defense that that has recorded four consecutive shutouts.  The Dukes are off to a 4-0-0 start for the first time in the history of the program. Frymier had nine saves in Duquesne's 1-0 win over Incarnate Word and three saves in their 1-0 win over Howard.
