College Soccer News’ Men’s Week 9 Awards

Team of the Week

Maryland

Maryland started their week 9 with a 2-0 win against Rutgers, and then capped it off with a 4-0 road win against Ohio State. Stephane Njike scored his fifth goal of the season against Rutgers, which was also his second game-winning goal. Joseph Umberto Picotto scored the game-winner against Ohio State and had four goal contributions (2g/2a) this past week. The Terrapins are the only unbeaten team left in the Big Ten, and they have kept four straight shutouts.

Next for the Terrapins is a home match against our #12-ranked Indiana on Friday.

Offensive Player of the Week

Palmer Ault – Senior – Forward – Indiana

Ault helped the Hoosiers come from behind on the road against Kentucky with a second half brace to secure the win 2-1 midweek. He then followed up that tally with a hat-trick against Division III side Hanover. This week the senior forward had his second hat trick of the season and his third and fourth multi-goal games. Ault now has 19 goal contributions on the season (14g/5a).

Indiana and Ault face off against Wisconsin at home tonight and then hit the road against our #7-ranked Maryland on Friday.

Defensive Player of the Week

Tristen Rose – Senior – Defender – Maryland

Rose has played every minute this season for the Terrapins and that work was rewarded with an assist in back-to-back games this past week as he also helped Maryland keep two clean sheets. The University of Charleston transfer has helped Maryland keep seven clean sheets so far this season.

Goalkeeper of the Week

Jadon Bowton – Graduate Student – Washington

Bowton and the Washington Huskies came off their bye week with a 2-0 road win against our #21-ranked Rutgers, keeping five saves during the game to help secure the win. Bowton had kept three straight clean sheets for Washington before allowing a goal against Penn State last night. His saves against Rutgers in particular helped them stay top of the Big Ten this past week with 18 conference points.

Bowton and the Huskies host Ohio State on Friday.

Freshman of the Week

Andres Escudero – Forward – Evansville

Escudero helped Evansville secure a draw on the road against a red-hot UIC. This was the freshman’s third brace of the season and he now has eight goals and an assist since joining the starting eleven (nine consecutive starts). The draw also helped Evansville stay top of the Missouri Valley Conference.

Next for Evansville is a Friday night home matchup against Bradley.
