The Team Of The Week Recognizes Players Who Played A Key Role In The Success Their Teams Had During The Week

Daniel Russo – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics WebsiteDaniel Russo – Junior – Forward – Notre Dame – Russo added a ton of firepower to the Irish attack this week scoring three times to power Notre Dame past Michigan 3-2 in a non-conference matchup. Russo followed that up by scoring the equalizer with his left foot after receiving a well played cross from Eno Nito in Notre Dame’s 1-1 tie on the road with Pittsburgh. The Irish conclude regular season play with an 8-6-2 overall record and 3-4-1 mark in ACC play. Notre Dame begins ACC Tournament play on Wednesday with a difficult game on the road against Clemson.
Arlotti, AlessandroAllessandro Arlotti – Sophomore – Forward – Harvard – Arlotti decisively drove a header into the back of the frame that was set up by a nice combination of passes from Marko Isakovic and Ethan Veghte and contributed an assist along with Isakovic on senior forward Martin Vician’s game-winner in Harvard’s gutsy come from behind 3-2 win over Penn. The Crimson are unbeaten in their last six matches to improve to 8-4-3 with a 2-1-2 mark in Ivy League play. Harvard will seek to secure another win in Ancient Eight play when they travel to face Princeton on Saturday.
Ryan Becher HeadshotRyan Becher – Senior – Midfielder – UMBC – Becher continues to come up big for the Retrievers. This week he scored out of a free kick put in play by Jago Lott and drove a volley into the right corner of the net after receiving a pass from Alex Wroblewski in UMBC’s 4-1 win over NJIT in an America East contest. Becher also contributed an assist on one of forward Taylor Calheira’s two goals. The Retrievers improve to 10-4-2 with a 4-2-0 mark in conference play They close out regular season play with a match on the road on Tuesday with Binghamton.
Nick Gutman – Senior – Midfielder – Kentucky – Gutman contributed assists on the goals scored by Casper Grening and Eythor Bjorgolfsson in Kentucky’s 2-0 Sun Belt Conference win over Old Dominion. Gutman has five goals and eleven assists on the season. The Wildcats remain one of the few undefeated teams with a 10-0-5 overall record and a 4-0-3 mark in conference play. They conclude regular season play on Tuesday when they face South Carolina in Columbia.
Alex Nagy – Fifth Year – Midfielder – Vermont – Nagy sent a bending ball into the back of the frame to score the game-winning goal in Vermont’s 2-1 win over New Hampshire in a key America East matchup. The Nagy has seven goals including three game-winners and seven assists on the season. Fifth Year senior midfielder Joe Morrison drove a shot into the upper right hand corner of the net to score Vermont’s first goal. The Catamounts rebound from an unexpected loss last weekend to UMBC to improve to 11-4-0 with a 5-1-0 mark in America East play. Vermont concludes regular season play when they travel to face the University of Albany on Tuesday.
Roland Mitchell – Sophomore – Midfielder – Wake Forest – Wake Forest exploded with three goals in the second half to secure a big 3-0 win over Louisville in ACC play. Mitchell played a key role contributing a helper on the goal scored by forward Babacar Niang and scoring with a double assist from defender Cristian Escribano and forward David Wrona. The Demon Deacons are now 13-4-0 with a 5-3-0 mark in ACC play. Wake Forest will begin play in the ACC Tournament on Sunday against the winner of the Virginia Tech and Louisville first round matchup.
Josh ErlandsonJosh Erlandson – Senior – Defender – Bowling Green – Erlandson put in a solid 90 minutes of play during which he sent a loose ball into the net out of a corner kick and converted a header out of a free kick to help power BGSU past NIU 3-1 on the road in a Mid-American Conference matchup. Senior midfielder Sergi Martinez provided the assists on both goals. The Falcons up their record to 5-4-5 with a 3-1-2 mark in conference play. Bowling Green will close out regular season play with a contest in Kalamazoo against Western Michigan on Wednesday and a game at home against NIU on Sunday.
Shandel SeniorShandel Senior – Fifth Year – Defender – FGCU – Senior played a key role in FGCU’s 1-0 upset win over nationally ranked Lipscomb. Senior provided the assist on forward Aedon Kyra’s game-winner and was a key ingredient in an FGCU defense that held Lipscomb to only four shots on goal. Redshirt sophomore Wyatt Kistner had a four save evening to post the shutout in goal for the Eagles. FGCU improves to 7-3-4 with a 3-1-3 mark in ASUN play. The Eagles will seek to continue the momentum when they close out regular season play on Tuesday when they travel to Deland to face ASUN foe Stetson.
Julian Cisneros HeadshotJulian Cisneros – Junior – Defender – Loyola Chicago – Cisneros alertly controlled and sent the rebound of teammate Oscar Dveso’s header out of a free kick into the back of the frame to score what proved to be the game-winning goal in Loyola Chicago’s 3-2 win on the road over Fordham. The Ramblers conclude regular season play on a six game unbeaten streak to stand at 7-2-6 with a 3-2-3 record in Atlantic 10 play. Cisneros also put in a productive 90 minute tour of duty on defense for the Ramblers. Loyola Chicago will host George Washington on Saturday in the quarterfinals of the A-10 Conference Tournament.
Wes Bottenfurg – Freshman – Defender – Tulsa – Bottenburg came up with the big play Tulsa needed to top a determined UCF team 1-0 when he converted a header in the 75th minute of play that was put in play by midfielder Sergio Baena. Bottenburg also put in a full 90 minutes of play on the defensive side of the ball. The Golden Hurricane improve to 9-2-2 with a 5-2-1 mark in American Athletic Conference play. Tulsa will complete regular season play with a big AAC game in Dallas on Wednesday against SMU.
StrauberNeil Strauber – Fifth Year – Goalkeeper – FAU – Strauber came through in the clutch with a six save evening during which he made the stops he needed to make to give the Owls the opportunity to upset SMU 2- 1. The win keeps FAU’s hopes of a spot in the six team AAC Tournament field alive. Midfielder Sebastian Zetti and forward Andreas Raisanen scored for the Owls. FAU has a difficult AAC contest coming up on Wednesday when they travel to Miami to close out regular season play against a surging FIU team. The Owls are 4-8-3 overall with a 3-3-2 mark in conference play.
Carlos Gonzalez HeadshotCarlos Gonzalez – Junior – Goalkeeper – UC Riverside – Gonzalez had a solid nine save evening in goal to play a key role in UC Riverside’s 4-1 win over UC Santa Barbara. The Highlanders secured the Big West Conference regular season title and the number one seed in the conference tournament for the first time in program history with a 5-2-2 mark in conference play. The Highlanders will seek to build on the success that they have had to date in the semifinals of the Big West Conference Tournament when they host the winner of the UC Davis and CSUN first round matchup.
