The College Soccer News Team Of The Week Recognizes Players On Both Sides Of The Ball Who Played A key Role In the Success Their Teams Had During The Week

Yutaro Tsukada – Senior – Forward – West Virginia – Tsukada had a busy week contributing two helpers in the Mountaineers 2-1 win on the road over UNCG and dishing out two assists and contributing a goal in their 4-3 win in Atlanta over Georgia State in a Sun Belt Conference contest. West Virginia is 8-0-2 overall with a 1-0-2 mark in conference play.
Jason Shokalook – Junior – Forward – Akron – Shokalook scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season to play a key role in Akron’s Big East Conference win over Seton Hall. The Zips improve to 6-0-4 overall with a 1-0-2 record in conference play.
Dylan Sing – Senior – Forward – Western Michigan – Sing netted the game-winning goal with an assist from redshirt junior defender Jonathan Robinson in the Broncos 1-0 win over Wright State. He also scored for the sixth straight contest with an assist from sophomore midfielder Tanner Hodgson in Western Michigan’s subsequent 1-0 win on road over a very good University of Illinois Chicago team in a MVC matchup. The Broncos are now 7-1-2 with a 2-0-0 mark in MVC action.
Leo Mendez – Senior – Forward – California Baptist University – Mendez scored the Lancers first two goals and assisted on Luis Borrero’s goal to help power CBU past Grand Canyon 3-0 in a Western Athletic Conference contest. The Lancers are 3-4-2 with a 1-0-0 mark in conference play. They continue WAC play on Thursday when they welcome UTRGV to CBU Soccer Stadium.
Ousmane Sylla – Senior – Midfielder – Clemson – Sylla was a difference maker for the Tigers in a 2-1 ACC win over a determined Virginia Tech team. He contributed a helper on sophomore Nathan Richmond’s goal and came through in the clutch when he instinctively drove a right footed shot into the back of the frame from the top of the box with only seconds remaining in regulation to give the Tigers the edge they needed to secure a solid ACC win over the Hokies. Clemson is now 6-3-1 with a 2-0-0 mark in conference play.
Nick Pariano – Senior – Midfielder – Duke – Pariano converted a penalty kick to get the Blue Devils on the board in a 3-2 win over the College of Charleston. He also converted a penalty kick and found the back of the net out of a free kick in Duke’s 5-3 win over nationally ranked Syracuse. The Blue Devils secure two good wins during the week to halt a two game losing to streak to improve to 6-2-1 with a 2-2-0 mark in ACC play.
Roberto Ordonez – Junior – Midfielder – Cal State Fullerton – Ordonez contributed three goals and two assists including the helper on teammate Erick Serrano’s game winning goal in the Titans on the road goal-a-rama 5-4 win over CSUN. He also converted a penalty kick to give Cal State Fulerton the edge they needed to edge UC Davis 1-0. Ordonez has nine goals and seven assists on the season. The Titans secure two Big West Conference wins to improve to 8-2-2 overall.
Eliot Goldthorp – Junior – Midfielder – Hofstra – Goldthorp is a playmaker who makes good things happen for Hofstra. He contributed the assist on defender Bjorn van Gorkom’s game-winning goal in Hofstra’s closer than expected 1-0 win over Binghamton. He also converted a penalty kick and assisted on teammate Ryan Carmichael’s two goals in the Pride’s 3-0 win over CAA foe Elon. Hofstra extends their unbeaten streak to nine games to improve to 8-1-2 overall with a 2-0-2 record in CAA play.
Griffin Roach – Senior – Defender – Boston University – Roach was a key ingredient in a solid Boston University defense that shutout Holy Cross 3-0 and had a scoreless tie with Colgate. The Terriers held Holy Cross to no shots on goal and limited Colgate to only one shot on frame. Boston University is now 6-2-2 overall with a 3-0-1 mark against Patriot League competition. BU has a challenging Patriot League contest coming up on Saturday when they host Navy.
Nicklas Lund – Junior – Defender – Oregon State – Lund put in a full ninety minutes of play for an impressive Oregon State defense that limited a very good Washington team to only one shot on goal in route to shutting out the Huskies 2-0. Oregon State comes up with another big Pac-12 win to improve to 5-3-1 overall with a 2-0-1 mark in conference play. The Beavers continue Pac-12 play when they host UCLA on Thursday and San Diego State on Sunday.
Thomas Lamaille – Senior – Defender – Saint John’s – Lamaille was at the center of a bend but don’t break rock solid St. John’s defensive effort that faced a total of 19 shots but nonetheless shutout a good Marquette team 1-0 in a Big East Conference matchup. Lamaille put in a full 90 minute tour of duty in the win. Forward Nicolas Fleuriau Chateau provided the game-winning goal for the Johnnies who are now 6-4-2 overall with a 1-1-1 mark in conference play.
Jackson Weyman – Graduate Student – Goalkeeper – Northwestern – Weyman had a seven save evening in goal anchoring a solid Wildcat defense that shutout Maryland 2-0 in College Park. Midfielder Collin McCamy powered the attack with a goal and assist. Northwestern is now 8-0-2 overall for the first time since 2008 and unbeaten in Big Ten play with a 2-0-1 mark for the first time since 2012.
