College Soccer News National Team Of The Week – Week Ending November 23, 2014

	Tyler Engel – Senior – Forward – North Carolina	Engel scored both of North Carolina's goals in their 2-1 win over a very talented Charlotte team to advance to the Sweet Sixteen. His first goal was at close range after receiving a pass from teammate Verneri Valimaa. His game-winning goal came in the last minute of regulation when he alertly followed up, controlled, and then sent into the left corner of the goal the rebound of teammate Andy Craven's shot. Craven led the UNC attack with a hat trick in their first round 6-0 win over James Madison.
	Leo Stolz – Senior – Midfielder – UCLA	Stolz scored both goals to play a key role in UCLA's 2-1 come from behind win in overtime against San Diego. His first goal came out of a free kick from thirty yards out when he drove a shot into the bottom right corner of the frame. His game-winner was a blast from the middle of the box that was set up by a nice move and pass from teammate Abu Danladi. UCLA advances to the Sweet Sixteen where they will host California.
	Dominik Machado – Sophomore – Midfielder – Providence	Machado scored twice to help power the Friars past Dartmouth 3-0 as Providence advances to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in the history of the program. His first score came after he made a nice hustle move to be in position to drive a cross from teammate Thomas Ballenthin into the goal. His second score came after he won a ball at the top of the box and created the space he needed to slot the ball into the back of the net.
	Michael Sperber – RS Sophomore – Midfielder – UC Irvine	Sperber combined with senior forward Cameron Iwasa to put together one of the more opportunistic and spectacular plays of the second round. Sperber controlled a Stanford clearance and sent a pass to Iwasa who then sent a through ball back to Sperber who drove it into the back of the net to give UC Irvine a 1-0 upset win over the sixth seeded Stanford Cardinal in the 97th minute of play. UC Irvine marches to the Sweet Sixteen where they will face Providence.
	Oyvind Alseth – Sophomore – Midfielder – Syracuse	Alseth had a role in both of Syracuse's goals in their 2-1 win over Penn State. He assisted on Emil Ekblom's equalizer and netted what proved to be the game-winning goal as Syracuse came from behind to top Penn State to improve to 16-3-1 and to earn the right to advance to the Sweet Sixteen where they will face the Georgetown Hoyas in Washington.
	Arun Basuljevic – Freshman – Midfielder – Georgetown	Basuljevic collected a loose ball in the box and blasted it into the back of the net with six seconds remaining in the second overtime period to give Georgetown a 2-1 win over a determined Old Dominion team. Brandon Allen also scored for the Hoyas who advance to the Sweet Sixteen where they will tangle with the Syracuse Oragne.
	Will Walker – RS Senior – Midfielder – Xavier	Walker scored Xavier's first goal in their 2-1 win in overtime against Monmouth in the first round of play with assists from in Alex Ridsdale and Matt Vasquenza. Walker also converted the game-winning penalty kick in Indiana's upset win over the Indiana Hoosiers. Xavier improves to 15-5-2 and advances to the Sweet Sixteen in NCAA Tournament play for the first time in the history of the program.
	Tim Kubel – Freshman – Defender – Louisville	Kubel netted the game-winning goal for the Cardinals with under four minutes remaining in regulation in their 2-1 win over Saint Louis. The goal was Kubel's team-leading seventh of the 2014 seson. He also assisted on teammate Andy Brody's goal. Louisville improves to 11-7-3 and will now host UMBC in the Sweet Sixteen.
	Zach Carroll – Junior – Defender – Michigan State	Carroll and fellow center back Ryan Keener anchored a rock solid Spartan defensive backline that shutout a very good Oakland team 1-0. Carroll also converted a header out of a corner kick to score the lone goal of the contest. Number three seeded Michigan State improves to 12-4-5 and earns the right to advance to the Sweet Sixteen where they will host number fourteen seed Washington.
	Jose Ribas – Junior – Defender – Creighton	Ribas was a key part of a very solid Creighton backline that shutout a very potent Oregon State team 1-0 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the third time in the past four seasons. Freshman Lucan Stauffer scored the lone goal of the match for the Bluejays who improve to 15-3-2 and advance to host fellow Big East Conference member Xavier on Sunday, November 30 at Morrison Stadium.
	Scott Thomsen – Junior – Defender – Virginia	Thomsen assisted on Viginia's first two scores in their come from behind win over a good UNCW team. He made a nice move and served in a well played cross to help set up teammate Sam Hayward's momentum setting goal just prior to the end of the first stanza of play and contributed an assist on Jake Rozhansky's goal. The Cavaliers win 3-1 to advance to the Sweet Sixteen to play Notre Dame.
	Billy Heavner – Sophomore – Goalkeeper – UMBC	Heavner was outstanding between the pipes this week for UMBC. He anchored a Retriever defense that shutout Wake Forest 0-0 and then advanced 3-2 in penalty kicks. He also came up with the saves that he needed to make to enable the Retrievers to shutout number four seeded Maryland 1-0. UMBC improves to 13-5-4 and is now unbeatern in their last eight games. The Retrievers advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in the history of the program.
