Virginia Forward Phil Horton – College Soccer News Men’s National Player Of The Week – Week Ending October 2, 2022

Phil H0rton – Junior – Forward – Virginia

Horton came up with the big plays on the offensive side of the ball that the Cavaliers needed to claim a huge 3-1 win over ACC foe and nationally ranked Pittsburgh on the road. He scored unassisted twice and contributed an assist on Reese Miller goals in the win over the Panthers.

The win over Pitt combined with last weeks win over Syracuse gave Virginia back-to-back wins over top ten opponents. Virginia claimed its third consecutive win for the first time since the 2019 season. The Cavaliers improve to 7-3-0 and move into first place in the ACC Coastal Division with a 3-1-0 mark in conference play.

Things don’t get any easier for Horton and his Cavalier teammates who have challenging contests on the horizon this week with matches at home on Tuesday against Denver followed by a tough ACC matchup with Duke on Friday.
