The College Soccer News Team Of The Week Recognizes Players Who Played A Key Role In The Success Their Teams Had During The Week.

Kaitlyn MacBean – Redshirt Junior – Forward – Penn State – MacBean scored the equalizer and placed a header into the back of the frame to provide the game-winner with under three minutes remaining in Penn State’s 2-1 come from behind win over Big Ten opponent Ohio State. The Nittany Lions continue their winning ways improving to 11-0-2 with a 5-0-1 mark in conference play. Penn State continues Big Ten play with contests at Purdue on Thursday and Northwestern Sunday.
Brittany Raphino – Senior – Forward – Brown – Raphino had a four goal week scoring three times in Brown’s 4-1 win over Yale and netting the game-winner in their subsequent 2-1 win over Penn with an assist from Ava Seelenfreund. Raphino also assisted on teammate Seelenfreund’s goal in the win over Penn. The Bears pick up two Ivy League wins to improve to 8-1-2 overall with a perfect 4-0-0 record in conference play. Raphino and Seelenfreund are among the reasons why Brown is undefeated in their last 25 matches in Ivy League play.
Eleanor Dale – Senior – Forward – Nebraska – Dale is a finisher with the ability and instincts needed to score in multiples. This week she alertly placed a bobbled ball in the box into the net off a cross from Florence Belzile and scored out of a corner served in by Belizile to help the Huskers top a good Iowa team 4-2. Dale has nineteen goals on the season for a Nebraska team that is 9-2-3 overall with a 3-1-2 mark in Big Ten play.
Emma Jaskaniec – Redshirt Senior – Midfielder – Wisconsin – Jaskaniec made the plays that she needed to make to give Wisconsin the edge they needed to top Northwestern 2-1. She decisively placed a shot into the upper right corner of the net that was set up by a nice centering ball from Izzy Verdugo and scored from within the box after receiving a cross from Ashley Martinez. Wisconsin secures a good win in Big Ten play to improve to 9-2-3 overall with a 4-1-1 record in conference contests. The Badgers travel to Champaign to face Illinois on Thursday and then host Ohio State on Sunday in two key Big Ten games.
Elle Ospeck – Senior – Midfielder – Notre Dame – Ospeck is a playmaker. She scored twice and provided a helper on Charlie Codd’s goal to help the Irish top Boston College 3-1. She followed that up with a three assist evening in Notre Dame’s subsequent 7-2 goal fest win over Miami. The Irish secure two ACC wins to up their record to 9-1-3 overall with a 5-0-1 win in conference play. Ospeck has four goals and seven assists on the season. Notre Dame has a big ACC match coming up on Thursday when they travel to Tallahassee to face Florida State.
Alex Kerr – Graduate Student – Midfielder – Texas Tech – Kerr scored in Texas Tech’s 2-2 on the road tie with nationally ranked BYU and scored the Red Raiders lone goal with a nice assist from Kaitlyn Giametta in a subsequent 1-0 win over a very competitive TCU team. Kerr has ten goals on the season. Texas Tech improves to 12-0-3 with a 6-0-1 mark in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders resume Big 12 play when they travel to face UCF in Orlando on Thursday followed by a game at home on Sunday against Oklahoma State.
Jillian Golden – Junior – Midfielder – Merrimack College – Golden scored in Merrimack’s 6-2 win over Le Moyne and followed that up with a three goal performance in their subsequent 4-0 win over Delaware State. The Warriors have won six straight to improve to 7-3-2 overall with a perfect 5-0-0 in NEC play. They will seek to extend their win streak with a contest at home on Thursday against Central Connecticut State and a math on the road on Sunday against Saint Francis.
Colby Barnett – Junior – Midfielder – Santa Clara – Barnett got things going for the Broncos when she scored their first goal in a convincing 4-0 win over Saint Mary’s. She also provided an assist on the goal scored by forward Holly Furphy and assisted on one of the two goals scored by forward Farrah Walters. The Broncos are 9-2-2 with a 2-0-0 mark in West Coast Conference play.
Jessie Hunt – Senior – Midfielder – Northeastern – Hunt came through in the clutch for the Huskies scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win over the College of Charleston and the lone goal in their subsequent 1-0 win over Monmouth. Hunt has six goals and eight assists on the season. Northeastern secures two solid CAA wins to improve to 7-3-4 overall with a 5-1-3 record in conference play.
Angeles Escobar – Senior – Defender – Southern California – Escobar was part of a solid Trojan defense that shutout Oregon 3-0 and Oregon State 4-0 in Pac-12 play. She also contributed an assist on the goal scored by Kayla Colbert in the win over Oregon State. The Trojans have only allowed a total of nine goals on the season. USC has won six straight to improve to 9-2-0 and is a perfect 5-0-0 in Pac-12 play.
Signe Markvardsen – Sophomore – Defender – South Florida – Markvardsen contributed on both sides of the ball for the Bulls. She scored the lone goal after receiving a nice cross from Serita Thurton and was part of a solid South Florida defense that shutout UAB 1-0 in an American Athletic Conference contest. The Bulls enhance their record to 6-5-1 overall with a 2-1-1 mark in AAC play.
Alexa Madueno – Redshirt Junior – Goalkeeper – San Diego State – Madueno had a nine stop week making the saves that she needed to make to give the Aztecs the opportunity to prevail 1-0 over Boise State and 2-1 over Utah State in Mountain West Conference contests. San Diego State is unbeaten in their last nine games (8-0-1) to improve to 10-2-2 overall with a 5-0-1 mark in conference play.
