College Soccer News Men’s National Team Of The Week – Week Ending September 3, 2023

The Team of The week recognizes players who were difference makers for their teams during the week

Mitchell Dryden – Sophomore – Forward – Wisconsin – Dryden’s goal in the opening minutes of the contest gave Wisconsin the edge they needed to upset Kentucky 1-0. Wisconsin begins the season with a perfect 3-0-0 record for the first time since 2008.
Ole Ofunrein – Junior – Forward – Denver – Ofunrein scored out of a corner kick served in by Sam Bassett and placed a shot into the back of the frame from the top of the box within a four minute span to play a key role in the Pioneers’ 3-1 win over a ranked SMU team. Denver improves to 2-0-1.
Luis Flores – Junior – Forward – Oral Roberts – Flores found the back of the net twice in Oral Roberts’ 5-3 win over Cal Poly and scored the game-winning goal from six yards out to give the Golden Eagles the edge they needed to top cross-town rival Tulsa 1-0. Oral Roberts improves to 3-0-0.
Yutaro Tsukada – Senior – Forward – West Virginia – Tsukada contributed an assist on Marcus Caldeira’s goal and drove a header into the back of the frame in West Virginia’s 2-0 win over Bucknell. He converted a penalty kick and contributed the helper on Caldeira’s goal in the Mountaineers subsequent 2-0 win over Yale. West Virginia Improves to 3-0-0. Tsukada has two goals and three assists in three games while Caldeira has four goals.
Gage Guerra – Junior – Forward – Louisville – Guerra netted the Cardinals first goal in their 3-0 win over Bellarmine and their subsequent 2-0 win over UNCG in Greensboro. Louisville improves to 3-0-0. The Cardinals have a big test coming up on Tuesday when they host rival University of Kentucky.
Kojo Dadzie – Senior – Midfielder – Brown – Dadzie had a productive evening of play scoring Brown’s first two goals to pave the way for a solid season opening 3-1 win over a good Massachusetts team. Forward Carlo Brown and midfielder Tanner Barry contributed the helpers on Dadzie’s goals.
Evan Davila – Senior – Midfielder – California – Davilia scored what proved to be the game-winning goal and contributed the helper on teammate Arik Duncan’s goal to help the Golden Bears top FDU 3-0.
Kyle Linhares – Senior – Midfielder – Georgetown – Linhares scored twice and assisted on the goal scored by teammate Joe Buck to led the Hoyas past a highly regarded Pittsburgh team 4-1. Georgetown rebounds from a loss to Stanford to improve to 2-1-0.
Sam Bjork – Junior – Defender – Seton Hall – Bjork was a key contributor on both sides of the ball. He scored the lone goal of the game and put in a full shift on the defensive side of the ball in Seton Hall’s 1-0 win over Ohio State. The Pirates are 3-0-0 and have not allowed a goal to date.
Nic Muench – Junior – Defender – SIUE – Muench placed a shot into the near post from 15 yards out and was part of a solid defensive effort to help SIUE top Saint Louis 2-0 before 8,500 fans at CITYPARK in Saint Louis. The Cougars improve to 3-0-0.
Paddy Burns – Senior – Defender – Notre Dame – Burns contributed the assist on Matthew Rouu’s game-winning goal and put in a full shift on the defensive side of the ball in Notre Dame’s 1-0 win over NIU. The Irish are 2-0-1 on the season.
Timo Hummrich – Graduate Student – Defender – Fordham – Hummrich cleanly converted a penalty kick to score what proved to be the game-winning goal in Fordham’s 2-1 win over Penn. He also was part of a solid Fordham defensive effort. The game-winner was Hummrich’s second of the season. The Rams are 2-0-1.
Sam Fowler – Senior – Goalkeeper – Washington – Fowler had a six save evening to anchor a Washington defense that shutout Indiana 1-0 in Bloomington. Fowler now has 27 career shutouts.
