The college Soccer News Team Of The Week Recognizes Players Who played A Key Role In The Success Their Teams Had During The Week

Tom Cooklin – Graduate Student – Forward – Western Michigan – The graduate student transfer from George Washington had a very productive week of play during which he contributed assists on the goal scored by Noah James, the two goals scored by Dylan Sing and the goal scored by Carson Hodgson in Western Michigan’s 5-0 win over Oakland. Cooklin also scored in the Broncos 3-0 win over MVC foe Drake. Western Michigan is unbeaten in their last 12 contests setting a new program record for consecutive games without a loss.
James Morris – Senior – Forward – Seattle – Morris returned to the pitch this year after missing most of the 2022 season due to injury and has been a difference maker for Seattle. He provided the lone goal with an assist from Yeider Zuluaga in the Redhawks 1-0 win over UTRGV and found the back of the net twice in their 3-0 win over California Baptist. Seattle is unbeaten in their last seven games to improve to 9-2-3 with a 4-0-1 mark in WAC play.
Luis Flores – Junior – Forward – Oral Roberts – Flores is a force on the offensive side of the ball for the Golden Eagles. He found the seam he needed to slot a shot into the back of the frame from within the box and placed a header into the net from the middle of the penalty area In ORU’s 2-0 win over Kansas City in a Summit League contest. Flores has eleven goals on the season. The Golden Eagles are 7-2-2 overall with a 3-0-1 mark in conference play.
Richard Monath – Freshman – Midfielder – Delaware – Monath was a difference maker in Delaware’s 2-1 win over NJIT and their 2-1 win over CAA foe and nationally ranked Hofstra. He scored the game-winning goal with an assist from senior forward Sam Donnelian in the win over NJIT and scored the Blue Hens first goal with Donnellan again providing the helper in the win over Hofstra. The win over Hofstra was Delaware’s first over a top 25 team since 2019. The Blue Hens will seek to keep the momentum alive when they continue CAA play with a contest on the road on Saturday against UNCW.
Niv Berkovitz – Freshman – Midfielder – SMU – Berkovitz had a two goal evening scoring SMU’s first and last goals in a 3-0 win over FAU in an American Athletic Conference contest. Bailey Sparks provided the assist on his first goal and Kyran Chambron Pinho the helper on the second. SMU is now 9-1-2 with a 4-0-1 mark in conference play.
Pablo Simon – Junior – Midfielder – Marshall – Simon scored twice and contributed the assist on the goals scored by Rai Pinto and Aymane Sordo to help power Marshall past Sun Belt Conference foe Coastal Carolina 6-1. The Thundering Herd extends their win streak to 12 games with a perfect 5-0-0 mark in conference play. Marshall has a big game coming up on Wednesday when they travel to Morgantown to face West Virginia.
Gabriel Bracken Serra – Redshirt Junior – Midfielder – San Francisco – Bracken Serra came through in the clutch scoring in the 90th minute of play with an assist from sophomore midfielder Olivier Sylvain to give the Dons the edge they needed to upset nationally ranked Stanford 2-1. The win halted Stanford’s 18-game unbeaten streak and was San Francisco’s first victory over a ranked opponent since the 2018 season. Bracken Serra has six goals and two assists on the season. The Dons are 6-2-4 overall.
Javier Soler Gandia – Senior – Defender – Bryant – Gandia arched a header into the left side of the net to give Bryant the edge they needed to top Northeastern 1-0. He also contributed the assist on Marc Pitarch Bayot’s second goal in their subsequent 5-0 win over NJIT in an America East contest. Gandia was also a factor on the defensive side of the ball for the Black and Gold in both shutouts. Bryant is now 11-1-2 with a 1-1-2 mark in conference play.
Julian Cisneros – Senior – Defender – Loyola Chicago – Cisneros, a four year starter, made an impact on both sides of the ball in Loyola Chicago’s 3-1 win over Saint Louis in an Atlantic 10 contest. He put in a full shift for a bend but don’t break Rambler defense, contributed the assist via a nice cross to set up teammate Petar Janjic’s goal, and added Loyola Chicago’s third goal during the last minute of play after receiving a pass from Ben Bishoff. The win was the first for the Ramblers over Saint Louis since 1996. Loyola Chicago improves to 7-2-3 with a 3-1-2 mark in Atlantic 10 play.
Sebastian Hernandez – Redshirt Sophomore – Defender – Portland – Hernandez contributed on both sides of the ball in Portland’s 2-0 win on the road over California and their subsequent 2-1 win at home over Oregon State. He contributed an assist on the goal scored by Buba Fofanah in the win over the Golden Bears and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the win over the Beavers to extend Portland’s unbeaten streak at home to 25 contests. Portland in 8-3-0 overall. The Pilots resume WCC play when they host a good San Diego team on Saturday.
Lucas Burns – Senior – Goalkeeper – Providence – Burns had six saves anchoring a stout Providence defense that shutout nationally ranked Georgetown 1-0. He has recorded fourth straight shutouts. Senior forward Gevork Diabian scored the lone goal the Friars needed to upset the Hoyas. Providence is 5-4-3 overall with a 2-1-2 mark in Big East play.
