The College Soccer News Team Of The Week Recognizes Players Who Played A Key Role In The Success Their Teams Had During The week

Aidan Davock – Senior – Forward – Colgate – Davock converted a header with an assist from Aidan Wright and scored from close range to play a key role in Colgate’s 2-0 win over Navy in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament. The Raiders improve to 8-9-2 and secure their first win in the Patriot League Tourney since 2018. Colagate advances to face Loyola Maryland in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Jonathan Nyandjo – Senior – Forward – Charlotte – Nyandio was a force on the offensive side of the ball in the 49ers 1-0 win over Memphis in an AAC contest. He contributed the game-winning goal with a double assist from Brad Dildy and Natsuki Ogata and applied pressure on Memphis throughout the contest. The win enabled Charlotte to claim the number two seed and the bye that goes with it in the AAC Tournament. The 49ers are 10-3-1 overall with a 6-2-0 mark in conference play.
Jose Contell – Redshirt Junior – Forward – UCLA – Contell played a key role in UCLA’s 3-1 win over Stanford. He contributed an assist on the goal scored by teammate Jack Sarkos, converted a header that was set up by a nice service from Tommy Silva, and used a touch to create the space and angle he needed to send a shot inside the far post. UCLA is 8-3-5 overall with a 5-0-4 mark in Pac-12 title. They can secure the conference title with a win or a tie in their final regular season contest against San Diego State on Friday.
Brendan McSorley – Senior – Forward – Providence – McSorley converted a header with a double assist from Nathan Messer and Rodrigo Vasa and placed a shot into the back of the frame that was set up by a cross from freshman midfielder Pearse O’Brien to help the Friars defeat Creighton 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament. McSorley secures his third multi-goal game of the season with 11 goals and one assist to date. The Friars improve to 8-5-3 overall and advance to face Xavier in the semifinals on Thursday.
Yutaro Tsukada – Senior – Forward – West Virginia – Tuskada scored what proved to be the game-winner after receiving a pass from Marcus Caldeira and sent a left footer into the back of the net from just outside to box to help the Mountaineers secure a 3-1 win over Georgia State in the Sun Belt Conference quarterfinals. West Virginia improves to 13-1-4 and advances to the semifinals in Orlando where they will face a South Carolina team that advanced to the semifinals by upsetting UCF.
Donovan Phillip – Freshman – Midfielder – Oakland – Phillip scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with a double assist from Mikey Ketteman and Ville Ahola to help Oakland top Detroit Mercy 2-0 to clinch the Horizon League regular season title and the number one seed in the conference tournament. Phillip’s has five goals and six assists on the season. Oakland bounces back from a 3-1 loss to improve to 7-8-2 with a 6-3-0 mark in Horizon League play.
Andrew Rent – Senior – Midfielder – Boston University – Rent scored the Terriers first goal and assisted on the goal scored by Alex Bonnington to help Boston University top Army 2-0 to secure the Patriot League regular season title for the first time since 2014. The Terriers are 10-3-4 overall with a 7-1-1 mark in conference play. They will begin play on Tuesday in the semifinals in what is historically a wide open Patriot League Tournament.
Sandler Roed – Junior – Midfielder – Louisville – Roed jump started Louisville’s offense scoring three times and contributed an assist to play a key role in the Cardinals 4-3 win over Notre Dame in the quarterfinal round of the ACC Tournament. He placed a shot inside the left post, slotted a shot inside the far post, and drove a header into the back of the frame that was set up by a nice cross from Brandon McManus. Roed also provided the helper on teammate Josh Jones game-winner. Ninth seeded Louisville also topped Pitt 2-1 in the first round of the ACC Tourney. The Cardinals advance to the semifinals where they will face Clemson on the road on Wednesday,
Mason Tunbridge – Redshirt Senior – Midfielder – San Diego – Tunbridge played a key role in San Diego’s 4-0 win over WCC foe Pacific. He contributed an assist on Rhys Gourdie’s goal and scored twice. Tunbridge sent a picture perfect left footer into the net from 25 yards out and converted a penalty kick in the win. He now has seven goals and seven assists on the season. The Toreros improve to 10-4-3 overall with a 4-1-1 mark in WCC play. They close out regular season play on Friday when they host Gonzaga with the WCC regular season title on the line.
Joey Maher – Senior – Defender – Indiana – Maher converted a penalty kick and was solid part of an Indiana defense that topped Wisconsin 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. The Hoosiers improve to 10-4-4 and advance to the semifinals where they will host Michigan on Wednesday. The Hoosiers have now won seven out of their last eight games including their last four in a row.
Pedro Arcoverde – Junior – Defender – Missouri State – Arcoverde scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of play in Missouri State’s 2-0 win over Drake. He was also part of a Bear defense that posted its eighth shutout on the season. Missouri State concludes regular season play with a 10-2-3 overall record and 6-1-1 mark in MVC play. The Bears will face UIC on Wednesday in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
Gabriel Perrotta – Graduate Student – Goalkeeper – Marshall -Perrotta continues to take care of business between the pipes making the stops that must be made to give the Thundering Herd the opportunity to prevail. This week he anchored a Marshall defense that shutout South Carolina 2-0 in the Herds final regular season contest and Old Dominion 2-0 in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Perrotta had four stops in the win over South Carolina and five in the win over ODU. Marshall improves to 15-2-0 and will host Kentucky on Wednesday in the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tourney.
