College Soccer News – National Team of the Week – Week Ending October 13, 2019

The College Soccer News National Team of the Week reflects top individual performers coast to coast who played a key role in the success that their teams enjoyed during the week. 

Miguel Berry

Senior

Forward 

San Diego 

Berry is among the reasons why San Diego is off to a 9-1-1 start. Berry scored twice despite being a tightly marked man and contributed a helper on teammate Alex Churness' goal in San Diego's 4-0 win over San Francisco in a WCC match. Berry has scored ten goals so far this year. 

Achara

Senior

Forward

Georgetown

Achara is a difference maker. He returned from injury to score Georgetown's first goal in their 2-0 win over Lehigh and scored twice to help power the Hoyas past Seton Hall 2-0 in a Big East Conference contest. Georgetown improves to 9-1-1 with a 3-0-1 mark in league play.  

 

Austin DaSilva

Sophomore

Forward

Albany 

 

DaSilva had a productive week of play scoring twice to help power the Great Danes past Hofstra 4-1 and twice to lead Albany to a 2-0 win over UMass Lowell in an America East Conference game. DaSilva is an impact player who has scored a total of ten times this year. Albany is 6-4-1 overall with a 2-1-0 mark in America East play.  

Thibaut Jacquel

Campbell

 

Jacquel continues to come up big for Campbell. He converted a header after receiving a cross from Dylan Sadler in Campbell's 3-1 come from behind win over Winthrop and contributed three goals and two helpers in Campbell's 6-2 thumping of Presbyterian. Jacquel has scored a total of thirteen times for the Camels who are 10-2-1 overall and 4-0-0 mark in Big South Conference play. 

Liam Butts

Penn State

The Nittany Lion freshman from Lawrenceville, Georgia gave Penn State the edge they needed to top Northwestern 3-2 in overtime. He found the upper right corner of the goal in regulation after making a strong move in the box to create the space he needed to score. He also alertly sent a rebound into the back of the frame in overtime.  

Rodney Michael

Junior

Forward 

UCSB 

Michael is a playmaker. He assisted on teammate Ballard McBride Finn's goal and scored after receiving a through ball from Thibault Candia in UCSB's 2-0 win over Sacramento State.  He also scored and contributed an assist in the Gauchos 5-0 thumping of Cal State Fullerton. UCSB is unbeaten in its last ten contests and is now 9-2-2 overall.  

Ryan Raposo

Sophomore

Midfielder

Syracuse

Raposo displayed a variety of skills to create the space he needed to score three times including the game-winner with less than three minutes remaining in regulation to help Syracuse upset North Carolina 4-3  in Chapel Hill. The Orange scored three times in the last twenty minutes of regulation to secure the win and improve to 4-3-4 overall.   

Mohamed Conde

Senior

Midfielder 

FIU 

Conde assisted on the two goals scored by teammate Xavi Olmos Ferris in FIU's 3-2 win in overtime against in-state foe FGCU. He also contributed the game-winner from inside the box in the closing minutes of regulation to give FIU the edge they needed to top Kentucky 2-1 in Lexington. FIU improves to 9-0-3 with a perfect 4-0-0 mark in CUSA play. 

Nick Benjamin

Sophomore

Defender 

Hartford

Benjamin scored out of a corner kick in the 89th minute of play to enable Hartford to tie St. Joseph's 2-2. He also drove a shot into the lower left corner of the goal in the 85th minute of play to give the Hawks a 1-0 win over Stony Brook.  The Hawks are unbeaten in their last ten contests to improve to 7-2-3. .   

Illal Osmanu

Senior

Marshall 

Osmanu was an integral part of a Marshall backline that held a very good Charlotte team to two shots on goal on the road in a scoreless CUSA contest. The Herd is undefeated in their last five contests and has recorded three consecutive shutouts. 

Alejandro Saez

Junior

Defender 

UNCW 

Saez scored twice in UNCW's 2-0 win over Old Dominion and was part of a stout Seahawk defense that shutout the College of Charleston 1-0 in a CAA game. The Seahawks have won three in a row to improve to 7-4-1 with a 4-0-1 mark in CAA play. 

Patrick Schulte

Freshman

Goalkeeper

Saint Louis

Schulte was sharp between the pipes for the Billikens making three saves in their  2-0 win over George Mason at Hermann Stadium and four saves in Saint Louis' 2-0 on the road win over LaSalle. Saint Louis has now won five straight contests to up their overall record to 8-3-0 with a 5-0-0 mark in Atlantic 10 play.
