The MAC Hermann Trophy Banquet is tonight, and we will find out which men’s and women’s soccer players will be awarded the most prestigious individual college soccer honor. The three men’s finalists are Donavan Phillips (NC State), Junior Diouf (Grand Canyon), and Richie Aman (Washington). The three women’s finalists are Jasmine Aikey (Stanford), Jordynn Dudley (Florida State), and Izzy Engle (Notre Dame).
Many players who have won this award through the years have gone on to have great professional careers as well as earn national team caps. Here is a look at five men and women MAC Hermann winners since 2010 who went on to have outstanding professional careers:
Men
Darlington Nagbe (2010 winner) – Akron – Darlington Nagbe retired from MLS after finishing the 2025 season with the Columbus Crew. He finished his illustrious career as a perennial winner, winning championships with every MLS team he played for (Columbus Crew, Atlanta United, and Portland Timbers). He started his championship pedigree by winning a National Title with Akron in 2010. After a professional career that included winning four MLS Cups and 529 career professional appearances, he will go down as one of the great American midfielders.
Jordan Morris (2015) – Stanford – Jordan Morris has spent his entire MLS career with the Seattle Sounders, and has won four trophies with them: two MLS Cups (2016, 2019), Leagues Cup (2025), and CONCACAF Champions Cup (2022). Morris also won a National Title with Stanford in 2015, which was the start of a three-peat for the program.
Ian Harkes (2016) – Wake Forest – Ian Harkes began his professional career with DC United before moving abroad to play with Dundee United. During his four years in Scotland, Harkes made 165 career appearances. He then returned to MLS and is currently playing for the San Jose Earthquakes. Harkes played four seasons at Wake Forest, finishing his collegiate career with 82 starts and 27 goal contributions (9g/18a).
Andrew Gutman (2018) – Indiana – Andrew Gutman started his MLS career with FC Cincinnati during their inaugural season in 2019. Since then, he has bounced around to a few different teams, but now seems to have found a home with the Chicago Fire, where he will be part of their 2026 campaign. He had a career year with the Fire in 2025, finishing the season with 12 goal contributions (3g/9a). Gutman had a standout four seasons in college with Indiana, finishing with 90 career starts and 37 goal contributions (20g/17a).
Duncan McGuire (2022) – Creighton – Duncan McGuire hit the ground running in his rookie year after being drafted by Orlando City in the 2023 SuperDraft, scoring 15 goals during the campaign. Across his first three seasons in Orlando, the forward has 97 appearances and 37 goal contributions (30g/7a). He had a massive junior year for Creighton with 26 goal contributions (23g/3a).
Women
Christen Press (2010 winner) – Stanford – Christen Press retired after finishing the 2025 season with Angel City. Her career included winning two World Cups (2015 and 2019) with the USWNT as well as an Olympic bronze medal (2021). She spent her club career both in the NWSL as well as abroad, including a stint with Manchester United. For the USWNT, she finished her career with 155 caps and 64 goals. Press finished her collegiate career with 95 starts at Stanford and a very productive 112 goal contributions (71g/41a).
Crystal Dunn (2012) – North Carolina – Crystal Dunn started her professional career with the Washington Spirit and then won her first professional trophy when she made the move to Chelsea, winning the 2017 WSL. Dunn returned to the US and won two NWSL titles (2018 and 2019) with the NC Courage. The fullback won a third NWSL title with the Portland Thorns in 2022. She has made 160 appearances for the USWNT and was a part of the Women’s World Cup-winning team in 2019. She now plays with Paris Saint-Germain. Dunn played four seasons with UNC, helping the Tar Heels win the National Title in 2012.
Morgan Gautrat (2013 and 2014) – Virginia – Morgan Gautrat (formerly Morgan Brian), has won two Women’s World Cups with the USWNT (2015 and 2019), making 88 career caps with the National Team. She also won an NWSL Title with the Orlando Pride in 2024. The midfielder is the first Virginia Cavalier with 40 goals and 40 assists.
Catarina Macario (2018 and 2019) – Stanford – Catarina Macario has made 29 appearances so far with the USWNT, scoring 16 goals. She has spent her entire professional career overseas playing for OL Lyonnes and now Chelsea. Macario won two Premiere Ligue Titles during her time with Lyonnes and has won two WSL Titles since joining Chelsea in 2023. Macario won two National Titles (2017 and 2019) during her time at Stanford and finished her collegiate career with 62 starts and 132 goal contributions (77g/55a).
Jaelin Howell (2020 and 2021) – Florida State – Jaelin Howell won her first league trophy with Gotham FC this past season, helping them beat Washington Spirit 1-0 in the final. She has also made six caps for the USWNT, scoring one goal. At Florida State, Howell helped the Seminoles win a National Title in 2021. She played all four seasons with FSU.
