As the weekend slate of games gets underway, there were a bunch of exciting results from Thursday and Friday. Louisville pulled off a shocker upset of our #2-ranked Stanford in men’s college soccer. On the women’s side #4 TCU was upset by Northwestern, and #1 Stanford had a huge result against #6 USC, putting up five goals.
Here are some quick highlights of those games from Thursday and Friday:
Men’s Soccer: Louisville Upsets #2 Stanford
Chase Vazquez’s first-half goal from a Jack Boring assist was enough for Louisville to get the win against #2 Stanford. Their goalkeeper Alex Svetanoff, also made four crucial saves to help Louisville earn its fourth straight clean sheet to start the 2025 season.
Next up for Louisville is a trip to Ohio State on Tuesday before returning to conference play against Virginia.
Women’s Soccer: #4 TCU Is Downed By Northwestern
The Northwestern went to Fort Worth, Texas and left with all three points in one of the biggest upsets in the 2025 women’s college soccer season so far. Kennedy Roesch hit a banger with her left foot from distance to give the Wildcats an early lead, and the goal was enough for the road win. It was Roesch’s third goal of the campaign.
Northwestern starts Big Ten Conference play next Friday against Iowa.
Women’s Soccer: #1 Stanford Puts 5 Up Against #6 USC
#1 Stanford put an emphatic statement on the start of their season, beating another top-ranked opponent 5-1 on the road. Stanford was up 3-0 before USC found a score in response. Stanford put the cherry on top with two more goals in the last eight minutes. Eleanor Klinger (2g), Andrea Kitahata (1g/1a), Jasmine Aikey (1g), Brooke Holden (1g), Charlotte Kohler (1a), Joelle Jung (1a), and Jaden Thomas (1a) were the list of goal contributors for Stanford in the blowout.
