The 2025 MLS All-Star team was announced on Wednesday, and nine of the 26 selected are former college players. Five of those nine were voted in by fans and media, highlighting that the college pathway can still lead to popularity and stardom, even as transfer fees grow with each passing transfer window.
Here’s a look at the nine 2025 MLS All-Stars from the college pathway:
Patrick Agyemang – Rhode Island
Patrick Agyemang has been featured a lot on college pathway lists this summer. He was one of three former college players to be ranked in the top 10 in 2025 MLS kit sales, and he was one of the former college players selected to the USMNT Gold Cup roster, where he is getting set to compete in the Quarterfinal tomorrow. At Rhode Island, he tallied 31 goal contributions (19g/12a) in 33 starts and earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team honors in 2021 and 2022.
Max Arfsten – UC Davis
Max Arfsten is another player making a name for himself on the USMNT Gold Cup roster this summer. His breakout campaign at UC Davis was his sophomore year in 2021, when he amassed 15 goal contributions (8g/7a) in 18 starts. He was drafted by the Columbus Crew in the 2023 SuperDraft after a stint with the San Jose Earthquakes II.
Sebastian Berhalter – UNC Chapel Hill
Sebastian Berhalter’s college career lasted only one season before signing a homegrown contract with the Columbus Crew. This year has been a massive year for the young midfielder as he has helped the Vancouver Whitecaps stay at or near the top of the Supporters’ Shield standings all season while also making a deep run to the final of the Concacaf Champions Cup.
Tristan Blackmon – Pacific
Tristan Blackmon started his college career as a forward but converted into a defender, where he wound up winning the 2017 West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year award in his senior campaign. He went on the be the third overall pick by LAFC in the 2018 SuperDraft. Blackmon, like Berhalter, has helped Vancouver put together an extremely strong first half to their 2025 season.
Michael Boxall – UC Santa Barbara
Michael Boxall played for UC Santa Barbara from 2007 to 2010, helping them win the Big West Championship in his senior year. He was also the Big West’s Defender of the Year during that 2010 campaign. The New Zealander is now in his ninth season with Minnesota United.
Miles Robinson – Syracuse
Miles Robinson was named to the NSCAA All-America First Team in 2016 during his sophomore campaign. He was also given the ACC Defensive Player of the Year award during that campaign. He helped Syracuse go to the College Cup Semifinals in 2015 and the Sweet Sixteen in 2016. Robinson was drafted second overall by Atlanta United in the 2017 SuperDraft.
Dayne St. Clair – Maryland
Dayne St. Clair’s junior year was a special campaign as the goalkeeper helped Maryland win the national championship during that 2018 season. He had 13 shutouts during that championship season. He was drafted seventh overall in the 2019 SuperDraft by Minnesota United.
Brad Stuver – Cleveland State
Brad Stuver played four seasons at Cleveland State, and in 2010, he was named the Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year. Stuver was selected 32nd overall by the Montreal Impact in the 2013 SuperDraft. He was then released and signed by the Columbus Crew. Stuver didn’t make his mark on MLS until he moved to Austin FC in 2021.
Brian White – Duke
Brian White had a strong career at Duke, where he made 63 starts and had 34 goal contributions (23g/11a). White was honored as an All-American Third Team player in 2017 for his efforts. In 2018, White was drafted 16th overall in the First Round of the 2018 SuperDraft. He is the third player on this list who plays for Vancouver and has given the Whitecaps plenty to cheer about when healthy.
