College Soccer News – National Team Of The Week – Week Ending October 2, 2016

Jon Gallagher – Junior – Forward – Notre Dame  Gallahger continues to play a key role in the Irish attack scoring twice to lead Notre Dame to a 2-0 win over Pitt. Gallagher has tallied a total of eight goals so far this season. Notre Dame improves to 8-1-0 overall with a 3-1-0 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play. 
Albert Ruiz – Junior – Forward – FGCU  In what will no doubt be one of the more unusual contests of the 2016 season, Ruiz exploded for three goals by the 9:02 mark of the contest as FGCU jumped out to what appeared to be an unsurmoutable 5-0 advantage. Rutgers responded with five goals of their own but FGCU added one more and prevailed 6-5. Ruiz has scored a total of eleven goals to date including two hat tricks. FGCU is among the hottest teams in the country having won seven straight to improve to 7-2-1.
Frederick Karman – GS – Forward – St. Mary's (Ca) Karman drove a rebound into the back of the net from close range and controlled a loose ball in the box and drove it into the back of the net in overtime to give the Gaels a 2-1 win over West Virginia in Morgantown. St. Mary's improves to 3-5-3 while West Virgina drops to 6-2-1.  
Frantzdy Pierrot – Junior – Forward – Coastal Carolina Pierrot netted the Chanticleers first goal in their 2-0 on the road win over the College of Charleston. He also scored twice including the game-winner to lead Coastal Carolina in a 3-2 come from behind win over Old Dominion. The Chanticleers gain momentum and imnprove to 4-4-1 overall. 
Ryan Sierakowski – Soph – Forward – Michigan State Sierakowski came up big twice this week for the Spartans netting the game-winning goals in their 1-0 win over Bowling Green and in thier 1-0 win over Ohio State in a Big Ten Conference game. All four of Sierakowski's goals this year have been game-winners. Michigan State improves to 7-2-0 overall with a 3-1-0 mark in conference play.  
Austin Dewing – Sophomore – Forward – Air Force Dewing scored twice to power the Falcons past Houston Baptist University 2-0. He also contributed an assist on teammate Klint Parker's goal in Air Force's 4-2 win over Incarnate Word. Dewing has recorded three two-goal games in Air Force's last five contests. The Falcons are 8-3-0 overall with a 2-0-0 mark in Western Athletic Confernce play. 
Ricky Chavez – Senior – Midfielder – UNCG Chavez placed a shot into the top corner of the net out of a free kick from twenty-five yards out in UNCG's 4-0 win over VMI and found the back of the net in overtime from twenty-five yards out to give the Spartans the edge they needed to top Furman 1-0. UNCG ups their record to 6-2-2 overall with a 2-0-0 mark in Southern Conference action. 
Chris Wehan – RS Senior – Midfielder – New Mexico Wehan scored twice in the first half of play to power the Lobos to a 4-1 win over FIU in a Conference USA contest. New Mexico is now 6-3-0 overall with a 1-1-0 mark in conference play.  
Mike Catalano – Junior – Midfielder – Wisconsin Catalano produced the insurance goal in Wisconsin's 2-0 win over Saint Louis and made a nice move through traffic to send a pass to teammate Sam Brotherton that Brotherton was able to blast into the back of the frame to give the Badgers the advantage they needed to top Rutgers 1-0 in a Big Ten contest.  Wisconsin is now 5-2-1 overall with a 3-1-0 mark in conference action. 
Jordan Wilson – Senior – Defender – Kentucky Wilson was at the heart of a solid Wildcat defense that shutout Charlotte 1-0. In addition his header in the 108th minute of play out of a corner kick served in by teammate Napo Matsoso was the difference maker on the offensive side of the ball in this crucial Conference USA matchup. Kentucky also tied Lipscomb 1-1 in a non-conference match. The Wildcats are now 6-2-2 overall with a 2-1-0 mark in conference contests.  
Matt Callahan – Senior – Defender – San Diego State The San Diego State co-captain was solid on both sides of the ball for the Aztecs in their 1-1 tie with Oregon State and their 1-0 win over Washington. Callahan was responsible for SDSU's lone goal in the draw with Oregon State. The Aztecs are 6-1-3 overall with a 1-0-1 mark in Pac-12 play. 
Scott Levene – RS Junior – Goalkeeper – Connecticut Levene anchored a solid UConn defense that shutout Providence 1-0 and Tulsa 1-0 on the road. In the contest with Tulsa he had a five save evening that included a huge stop on a penalty kick. Connecticut has now won five straight to improve to 8-3-0 with a 2-0-0 mark in American Athletic Conference play.
