Three Things We Saw From Wednesday’s College Soccer Games: Men’s Week 3/Women’s Week 4

Wednesday night kicked the weekend off early with Men’s Gardner-Webb upsetting #9-ranked West Virginia. Men’s #5 Indiana was able to handle its matchup against #15 Saint Louis, and Women’s Buffalo beat Niagara 2-0 for its third win in what has been a strong start for the team.

Here is a breakdown of the three things we saw on Wednesday night:

Men’s Soccer: Gardner-Webb upsets #9 West Virginia

Gardner-Webb had its biggest win of the season last night, beating a top 10 team on the road. Tiago Campos’ first goal of the season was enough to see the Runnin’ Bulldogs past West Virginia 0-1 as they are now 4-0-0 to start the year.

Gardner-Webb has three more games before its Big South Conference schedule begins. Their upcoming home matchup against #25 Furman is setting up to be a fun one on September 12.

Men’s Soccer: #5 Indiana finishes the job against #15 Saint Louis

Indiana won its fourth game in a row last night and has now started the season undefeated, 4-0-1, including multiple games against top-15 ranked opponents. Junior forward Collins Oduro scored his first goal of the campaign and now has three goal contributions (1g/2a) through five starts.

The Hoosiers’ next stop is an in-state road clash against Notre Dame on Sunday. The Fighting Irish have also started the season undefeated (1-0-2).

Women’s Soccer: Buffalo nab their third win of the season versus Niagara

Buffalo got another result last night and kept their third clean sheet in five games with their 2-0 win over Niagara. Veteran forward Jasmine Guerber set up teammate Laiken Kiser for the first goal, giving Guerber her fifth goal contribution of the season (2g/3a).

With their only loss of the season coming against Michigan State, who were ranked #17 at the time, they have started the season off well, with one game left until MAC play kicks off.
