Marleen Schimmer – Senior – MidFielder – Grand Canyon
Schimmer set the pace from the get-go for Grand Canyon scoring three times in less than 15 minutes to power GCU past California Baptist 6-1 in a Western Athletic Conference contest. She followed that up by scoring the game-winning goal in overtime after receiving a cross from junior forward Gianna Gourley in Grand Canyon’s 1-0 win over WAC foe Seattle.
It was a banner week of play for Schimmer and her Grand Canyon teammates who are now 10-2-1 with a 3-0-1 mark in conference play.
Grand Canyon reaches double-digit wins for the first time since 2010. The Lopes under the guidance of head coach Chris Cissell will seek to extend their current five game unbeaten streak and add to their win total when they host New Mexico State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
