The Irish striker who hails from Dundalk, Ireland was named the Offensive MVP of the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington. He played a key role in Notre Dame's 2-1 win over Stanford and 5-0 victory over California. In the tournament opener against Stanford, Gallagher scored off a give and go with junior forward Jeffrey Farina in the 86th minute of regulation to tie the contest 1-1 and send it into overtime. Irish defender Brandon Aubrey then scored out of a free kick in the 104th minute of action to give the Irish a gutsy 2-1 come from behind win over the Cardinal. In the contest with California, Gallagher contributed a goal and two assists. He scored on a break away after receiving a goal kick from Irish netminder Chris Hubbard who was credited with an assit on the play. Notre Dame is off to a very impressive 4-0-0 start. The Irish now return to Alumni Stadium where they will host ACC foe Virginia Tech on September 9, 2016. |
