Yesterday, the Canadian Men’s National Team announced their roster for this fall’s September/October camp and it includes seven players who utilized the college pathway. The Big East will be the most well represented conference* by the CANMNT (3 players), while Maryland is the only program with multiple Canadian players called into fall camp.
Here are the seven former college players set to represent Canada later this month:
Tajon Buchanan – Syracuse
Buchanan (pictured above) was an ACC All-Freshman and then an ACC All-Conference First Teamer his sophomore season before earning a Generation Adidas contract and then being selected by the New England Revolution in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. He finished with 18 goal contributions (12g/6a) in his two collegiate seasons. Buchanan has been playing in Europe since 2022 and is currently in Spain playing for Villarreal.
Cyle Larin – Connecticut
Larin was the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year in 2013 while at Connecticut and followed that up with a AAC Offensive Player of the Year his sophomore campaign. Orlando City then selected him 1st overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. Larin has also been playing in Europe for severall years is currently plying his trade at Southampton.
Richie Laryea – Akron
Laryea was an All-MAC player both seasons he played at Akron but his sophomore campaign was his career year finishing the campaign with 11 goals and seven assists. Orlando City selected Laryea in the First Round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft and has stayed in MLS most of his career currently playing for Toronto FC.
Tani Oluwaseyi – Saint John’s
Oluwaseyi was at Saint John’s for four seasons but his career best from a production standpoint was his sophomore year in 2019 when he had 16 GCs (11g/5a). He also won Big East Offensive Player of the Year that season. Now, Oluwaseyi is Buchanan’s teammate at Villareal.
Jacen Russell-Rowe – Maryland
Russell-Rowe made the Big Ten All-Freshman team after the 2020-21 season and then signed with the Columbus Crew’s MLS NEXT Pro team after his sophomore season and is now playing for Toulouse in France.
Niko Sigur – York
Sigur played one season at York in Canada and then made his way to Hajduk Split in 2023. He just recently signed with Toulouse where he is now Russell-Rowe’s teammate.
Dayne St. Clair – Maryland
St. Clair had a memorable college career as he helped the Terrapins win the National Title in 2018. The goalkeeper was then selected in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by Minnesota United, two spots ahead of Buchanan. He now plays for Inter Miami.
