The Carolina Cup is bringing more action this weekend as the North Carolina Tar Heels host the UNC Wilmington Seahawks in the third game of the competition for the Tar Heels and the second for the Seahawks. This matchup will be followed by a Carolina Cup game between High Point and Campbell.

North Carolina has been the best team in the Carolina Cup so far, defeating Wake Forest 2-1 in the first match and coming out on top in a high-scoring 4-3 win against their archrivals, the Duke Blue Devils. The Tarheels are atop the table in the competition with two wins in the Carolina Cup. Junior forward Bertil Hansen and incoming Rutgers transfer Joschi Schelb have each scored two goals.

The Seahawks have only played one game in the Carolina Cup so far, a matchup with the UNCG Spartans at the end of February, which ended with UNCG winning 1-0. UNCW will look to get its tournament back on track with a road result against a very tough UNC team.

There is a second Carolina Cup game this weekend, as High Point prepares for its first in the competition, traveling to Campbell. Campbell kept a shutout in a 0-0 draw versus Virginia Tech in their Round 1 matchup and earned the extra point in PKs.

The High Point Panthers had three players drafted in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft, and two of them are returning for the 2026 college season. Daniel Lugo was selected in the First Round (29th overall) by the Vancouver Whitecaps and was one of the most prolific strikers in Division I in 2025. Koven Johnson was selected in the Third Round (70th overall) by the Colorado Rapids and returns to bolster the Panther midfield after making 17 starts in 2025.
