The 2025 UEFA Women’s Euro Semifinals kick off today with a matchup between England and Italy. Tomorrow, Germany and Spain face off.
Between the England and Italy squads, four players utilized the college pathway. Today, we will look at the four players from that game; tomorrow, we will look at the college pathway players in the Germany vs Spain matchup.
England
Lucy Bronze – UNC Chapel Hill
Lucy Bronze played one season with the Tar Heels in 2009. She helped UNC win the National title that year, beating Stanford 1-0 in the Championship game. Bronze has gone on to have a storied professional career for both club and country, winning numerous domestic and continental titles, as well as the FIFA Women’s Player of the Year award in 2020.
Lotte Wubben-Moy – UNC Chapel Hill
Lotte Wubben-Moy played three seasons with the Tar Heels from 2017-19, helping UNC reach the College Cup Final in 2018 and 2019, but falling to Florida State and Stanford in those final matchups. She has played her entire club career at Arsenal.
Alessia Russo – UNC Chapel Hill (Pictured)
Alessia Russo was Wubben-Moy’s teammate for her three seasons at Chapel Hill from 2017-19. Her best season was her 2019 campaign, where she had 16 goal contributions (13g/3a). Russo is currently teammates with Wubben-Moy at the club level at Arsenal, where the two helped the club win the Women’s Champions League this past year.
Italy
Eleonora Goldoni – ETSU
Eleonora Goldoni played four seasons at ETSU from 2015-18 and had double-digit goal-scoring campaigns in 2016 and 2017. She finished her college career with 36 goals and was awarded SoCon All-Conference First Team honors twice (2016 and 2018). Goldoni currently plays club soccer at Lazio.
