College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Week Ending October 12, 2014

Colin McAtee - RS Junior - Midfielder - Michigan

McAtee who is from San Diego, California scored three goals to lead Michigan past Notre Dame 3-2 at U-M Soccer Stadium. His first goal was a header out of a corner kick that was put in play by teammate Tyler Anderson in the 21st minute of the contest. His second goal came less than a minute later after receiving a cross from teammate Tyler Arnone at the top of the eighteen which he drove into the lower right corner of the goal.  His third goal and the game winner came in the 83rd minute of play out of a corner kick again put in play by Anderson. McAtee also netted his sixth goal of the year in Michigan's 3-0 win over Rutgers.  

Michigan has now won three straight to improve to 4-5-2 with a 2-1-2 mark in Big Ten Conference play.  The Wolverines will seek to keep their winning streak alive when they tangle with an always competitive Akron side on the road on Tuesday, October 14.  

 

College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Week Ending October 5, 2014

Nick DePuy - Sophomore - Forward - UC Santa Barbara  

DePuy and his UCSB teammates secured two solid Big West Conference wins defeating CSUN 2-1 and UC Irvine 1-0 to improve to 6-3-1 with a 2-0-0 mark in conference play.  DePuy netted what proved to be the game winning goal in the match with CSUN and assisted on teammate Duncan Backus's goal to enable the Gauchos to come from behind to top the Matadors.  UC Santa Barbara coach Tim Vom Steeg stated, "Anytime you can get a good result against a great team like Northridge, you're happy."  In the contest with UC Irvine, DePuy controlled a clearance with less than a minute remaining in regulation and sent a picture perfect shot from thirty-five yards out into the upper left corner of the net to give the Gauchos the win before a crowd of 4,731 fans at Harder Stadium. Vom Steeg stated, "It was obviously a great shot by Nick.  I can't think of a better way to finish the first week of conference."

UC Santa Barbara will take to the road to tangle with Cal State Fullerton on Thursday and UC Riverside on Saturday night.  

College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Week Ending September 28, 2014

Patrick Wall - Graduate Student - Goalkeeper - Notre Dame

Wall was a force between the pipes recording his third shutout of the 2014 campaign and doing all the things that he needed to do to enable his team to secure a 2-0 win over highly regarded North Carolina.  He recorded six saves including several huge stops that fell within the exceptional category before a capacity crowd of over 3,000 fans at Alumni Stadium.  Bobby Clark summed it all up when he stated, "There is no quesiton he's (Wall) one of the reason why we won the game against North Carolina."  Clark added, "He's a game-changer and that's what a good goalkeeper is about."  

Notre Dame improves to 4-1-2 with a 2-0-1 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play.  The Fighting Irish return to the pitch on Tuesday, September 30 when they host an always competitive VCU team.  

College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Week Ending September 21, 2014

Ethan Kutler - Sophomore - Midfielder - Colgate 

Kutler had a five goal weekend leading the Raiders to a 3-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinsn and a 3-1 victory over Siena.  In the game with FDU Kutler scored on a header out of a corner kick and made a nice move off the dribble to create space before driving a shot into the lower left hand corner of the goal.  In the contest with Siena he scored from the top of the box, slotted a shot into the lower left corner of the goal after creating a turnover inside the box, and scored from ten yards out after a nice give and go with teammate Zach Tamen.  

Kutler, who is from Lansing, New York, has scored a total of nine goals so far in the 2014 season.  Colgate is now 3-3-1 and will open Patriot League play on Saturday, September 27 when they travel to Easton, Pennsylvania to face Lafayette.
