College Soccer News - National Team of the Week - Week Ending October 1, 2017

Santiago Patino - Junior - Forward - FIU Santiago capitalized on a rebound as the best finishers always do to contribute a goal in FIU's 5-0 win over North Florida and produced two goals in FIU's 4-1 win over FAU.  He contiues to be a force on the offense side of the ball for the Panthers with nine goals and two assists to date. FIU improves to 5-0-3 overall with a 2-0-1 mark in CUSA play.  
Rodney Michael - Freshman - Forward - UCSB Michael slotted a shot into the far post out of a corner kick and contributed assists on the goals scored by teammates Derek Kryzda and Adrian Adames to help the Gauchos top Cal State Fullerton 5-2. He also scored in UCSB's 3-1 win over UC Riverside. The Gauchos have rebounded to win four straight to improve to 4-4-2 overall.  
Elliott Otmani - Senior - Forward - Rider  Otmani scored from eighteen and thiry-five yards out to lead Rider past Monmouth 3-0. He also contributed a goal in Rider's 4-1 victory over Saint Peter's. Otmani has scored in four of the Broncs last five contests. Rider is off and running with a 7-2-0 overall record and a 2-0-0 mark in MAAC play. 
Rex Epps - Sophomore - Forward - Army  Epps netted the game-winner with an assist from Tyler Mitchiner and also provided a helper on teammate Roman Guiseppi's goal in Army's 2-1 win over Sacred Heart. He also contriubuted an assist and scored to help propel the Black Knights past Colgate 2-0 during a contest in which former Army goalkeeper Kevin J. Smith who was killed in combat in 2005 was honored at halftime.  
Chae Brangman - Junior - Forward - Rhode Island Brangman scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in Rhode Island's 2-1 win over Boston College. He also contributed the game-winning goal in Rhode Island's 2-1 win over George Washington with a double assist from Liam Daley and Peder Kristiansen. The Rams are undefeated in their past six contests to stand at 5-2-2 overall.  . 
Brandon Perdue - Freshman - Midfielder - ODU Perdue contributed the assist on Niko Klosterhalfen's goal and scored the insurance tally via a rocket into the left corner of the frame  to help ODU top Kentucky 2-0 in a key CUSA contest. Purdue has scored a total of six goals to date and contributed four assists. ODU is now 6-1-2 overall with a 3-0-0 mark in conference play. 
Ema Twumasi - Sophomore - Midfielder - Wake Forest   Twumasi and his Demon Deacon teammates had a productive week securing a 2-1 win over an always competitive South Carolina team and a 3-2 win in overtime against nationally ranked Clemson in a key ACC contest. Against South Carolina, Twumasi netted the game-winning goal in the 89th minute of play with an assist from Jon Bakero. In the win over Clemson, Twumasi scored twice and Steven Echevarria provided the game-winner.   
Shinya Kadono - Junior - Midfielder - California Kadono sent a header into the back of the net to tally the insurance goal in California's 2-0 on the road win over UCLA.  He also came up big for the Golden Bears when he scored with only eleven seconds remaining in regulation to give California the edge they needed to top San Diego State 1-0 on the road. The Golden Bears have won five straight to improve to 7-2-0 overall with a 2-0-0 mark in Pac-12 play.   
Daniel Krutzen - Junior - Defender - Albany Krutzen alertly and calmly controlled and sent the rebound of teammate Nico Solabarrieta header back into the net to give Albany the edge that they needed to top UMass Lowell in a key America East Conference contest. Krutzen was also part of a solid Great Dane defense that shutout UMass Lowell 1-0. Albany improves to 7-2-0 overall with a 1-0-0 mark in conference play. 
Alex Bangerl - Senior - Defender - Columbia The Columbia cener back converted a penalty kick in the Lion's 3-0 win over a good Brown team and was part of a backline that allowed just two shots on goal in route to recording the shutout. Columbia improves to 5-0-2 and 1-0-0 in Ivy League action.  
Nate Shultz - Senior - Defender - Akron Shultz drove a shot into the back of the net from six yards out with an assist from Nick Hinds and sent a rocket into the back of the goal with a double assist from teammates Skye Harter and Stuart Holthusen to help power Akron past Michigan State 4-1. Akron also topped Saint Mary's 2-1 in overtime to up their record to date to 5-2-1. Shultz was part of a very solid Zip defensive effort in both contests. 
Mario Sequeira - Freshman - Goalkeeper - VCU Sequeira had an impressive seven save evening between the pipes to anchor a bend but don't break Ram defense that shutout a good UNCW team to secure a 1-0 win in overtime despite the fact that the Seahawks had a 22 to 4 advantage in shots. Rafael Andrade Santos netted the game-winning goal for a VCU team that now stands at 3-3-0. 

 

College Soccer News - National Team of the Week - Week Ending September 24, 2017

Luca Mayr - Sophomore - Forward - South Carolina Mayr scored what proved to be the game-winner after receiving a through ball from teammate Christoffer Wallander giving the Gamecocks the edge they needed to top previously undefeated Furman 1-0. Mayr also provided the helper in Justin Sukow's goal in South Carolina's 2-2 tie with New Mexico. 
Alan Winn - Senior - Forward - North Carolina Winn earns a repeat selection to the CSN National Team of the Week. He scored twice in UNC's 4-1 win over George Washington and utilized his left foot to send a blast into the back of the frame to help the Tar Heels top Virginia 2-1 in overtime. Jelani Pieters netted the game-winner for the Tar Heels in the win over Virgina.  
Marcelo Acuna - Senior - Forward - Virginia Tech Acuna converted a penatly kick in Virginia Tech's 2-1 win over Davidson. He also scored twice to play a key role in Virgina Tech's 2-1 win over previously undefeated Notre Dame. The Hokies improve to 4-4-0. 
Severnin Soerlie - RS Sophomore - Forward - Gardner-Webb Soerlie drove a header into the back of the frame out of a corner kick and alertly took advantage of a turnover to net the game-winner in the 102nd minute of play to give Garner-Webb the edge they needed to upset Furman 5-4 in double overtime on the road. The Runnin'Bulldogs improve to 3-2-1 on the season. 
Scott Menzies - RS Senior - Forward - Washington Menzies came off the pine to jump start the Huskie attack with two first half goals and a third in the second stanza to power Washington to a 4-0 win over Utah Valley.  He also contributed an assist in Washington's 2-0 win Sunday evening over Seattle. The Huskies have now won four straight to improve to 6-2-0.  
Arthur Bosua - Senior - Forward - Columbia  Bosua found the back of the net twice in Columbia's 2-0 win over the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. Danny Laranetto contributed the helper on Bosua's first goal while Beto Carillo provided the assist on the second. Columbia improves to 4-0-2. 
Phillip Goodrum - Sophomore - Midfielder - UNCW Goodrum scored twice in the second half of play to help propel the Seahawks to a solid 2-1 win over William and Mary in a key Colonial Athletic Association contest that took place in Williamsburg, Virginia.  UNCW has won three straight to up their record to 6-1-0. 
Cory Thomas - Redshirt Junior - Midfielder - Indiana Thomas has been adding an additional dimension to Indiana's attack. He contributed two goals in IU's 5-0 thumping of Rutgers. His first score came off a double assist from teammates Spencer Glass and Thomas Warr. Thomas netted his second goal after receiving a well played cross form Austin Panchot.  
Ross McPhie - Junior - Midfielder - Cal State Fullerton  McPhie continues to make big plays for the Titans. He alertly headed a rebound into the back of the goal to give Cal State Fullerton the edge they needed to top UNLV 1-0. The goal was McPhie's fourth to date and enabled the Titans who look to be gaining momentum to improve to 5-3-1. 
Willis Griffith - Graduate Student - Defender - New Hampshire Griffith who is a transfer from Northwestern has has been a solid addition to the New Hampshire backline and an important part of a tenacious Wildcat defense anchored by goalkeeer Andrew Pesci that has only allowed one goal in eight contests this year. New Hampshire shutout Quinnipiac on the road Saturday to improve to 6-0-2. 
Lennart Hein - Junior - Defender - Saint Louis Hein was part of a very solid Saint Louis defense that allowed highly regarded Stanford only one shot of goal in route to a 2-0 win. The Billikens have not allowed a goal in three consecutive contests to improve to 2-3-1 overall.  
David Enstrom - Senior - Defender - St. John's  Enstrom was part of a solid Red Storm defensive effort that shutout Xavier 3-0. He also contributed an assist on the first of two goals scored by freshman forward Jack Shearer. St. John's improves to 5-2-1 with a 2-0-0 mark in Big East Conference play.   
Jimmy Hague - RS Junior - Goalkeeper - Michigan State Hague continues to take care of business between the pipes for the Spartans. He had seven saves to record his seventh shutout of the still young 2017 season in Michigan State's 0-0 tie with Maryland in a key Big Ten Conference contest. The Spartans are 7-0-1 overall with a 2-0-1 mark in conference action. 

 

College Soccer News - National Team of the Week - Week Ending September 17, 2017

Alan Winn - Senior - Forward - North Carolina Winn, who hails from Garland, Texas, scored twice in the Tar Heels 3-2 win over William and Mary. He also added a goal in UNC's 2-1 win over rival Duke. North Carolina improves to 6-1-0.  
Brandon Guhl - Sophomore - Forward - Butler Guhl contributed a helper on teammate Joel Harvey's goal to help the Bulldogs edge Evansville 1-0. He also netted a pair of goals to help Butler come from behind to top Creighton 3-2 in a key Big East contest. Butler improves to 5-2-0. 
Samson Sergi - RS Sophomore - Forward - Xavier Sergi's header after receiving a cross from Simen Hestnes was the difference maker as Xavier topped Georgetown 1-0 in overtime. The goal was Sergi's fourth of the season to date. Xavier is unbeaten in its last six contests to improve to 5-1-1. 
Cody Gibson - Redshirt Sophomore - Forward - Seattle Gibson scored two goals to help power Seattle past Santa Clara 5-2. He also netted the game-winner in Seattle's 1-0 win over Drexel. Gibson has scored five goals in the past three contests to help the Redhawks secure a 6-1-0 record. 
Matteo Bennati - Freshman - Forward - Belmont  Bennati drove a header into the back of the frame after receiving a cross from Julian Lucumi Villegas to give Belmont the edge they needed to defeat Georgia State 1-0. He also alertly slotted a rebound into the back of the net to help the Panthers top Milwaukee 2-1. Belmont improves to 3-1-2. 
Paul Geyer - Senior - Midfielder - Sacramento State Geyer was a catalyst on both sides of the ball helping Sacramento State secure a 2-1 win over Utah Valley and a 4-3 win over Northern Illinois  to improve to 4-3-0.  
Ema Twumasi - Sophomore - Midfielder - Wake Forest Twumasi scored twice in Wake Forest's 3-0 win over Appalachian State. He also contributed a goal with an assist from teammate Jon Bakero to help the Demon Deacons top Pittsburg 2-0.  Wake Forest is now 6-1-0.
Sean Clarke - Freshman - Midfielder - Cincinnati  Clarke scored the game-winning goal when he lofted the rebound of his own shot into the net in the eighty-second minute of play in the Bearcat's 1-0 win over Kentucky. He also contributed a goal and an assit in Cincinnati's 3-1 win over Bowling Green. The Bearcats up their record to 4-2-1.  
Javier Carbonell - Junior - Midfielder - Georgia Southern  Corbonell was a catalyst on the offensive side of the ball in the Eagle's 2-1 win over Coastal Carolina in a key Sun Belt Conference contest. He skillfully contributed the assists on the goals scored by teammates Gonzalo Talavera and Aldair Cortes. Georgia Southern is now 3-3-1. 
Tanner Dieterich - Sophomore - Defender - Clemson  Dieterich was solid on both sides of the ball in Clemson's 1-0 win over Boston College. He made a nice move to create space and converted what proved to be the game-winner in the victory over Boston College. He was also part of a gutsy Tiger defense. Clemson improves to 5-1-0 and will host UCLA on Tuesday. 
Niall Logue - Senior - Defender - Ohio State Logue was part of a solid Buckeye defensive effort that resulted in shutouts against Penn State 3-0 and Rutgers 1-0 to give Ohio State a 6-1-0 overall record with a 3-0-0 mark in Big Ten play. He also scored out of a free kick in the contest with Penn State. 
Kyle Saunderson - Junior - Defender - UMBC Saunderson converted a header out of a corner kick and a header out of a free kick to help power the Retrievers to a 3-2 victory over West Virginia. Freshman midfiedler Matt Bailey contributed two helpers in the win. UMBC also tied George Washington 1-1 to conclude the week with a 4-1-1 record.    
Nils Leifhelm - Senior - Goalkeeper - Rhode Island  Leifhelm made the key stops that he needed to make including two in the final minutes of regulation in the Ram's scoreless tie with New Hampshire. Leifhelm has recorded three consecutive shutouts to up his career total to nineteen. Rhode Island is now 3-2-1 while New Hampshire is 5-0-2.    

 

College Soccer News - National Team Of The Week - Week Ending September 10, 2017

Marcel Zajac - Sophomore - Forward - Akron Zajac scored twice to help Akron top UC Santa Barabara 3-1. The Zips improve to 2-2-0. 
DeJuan Jones - Junior - Forward - Michigan State Jones found the back of the net twice to power MIchigan State past Rutgers 2-1. The Spartans also defeated Cleveland State 1-0 and are now 5-0-0. 
 Mario Mastrangelo - Junior - Forward - St. Francis University Mastrangelo netted a hat trick to lead the Red Flash past Colgate 3-0. SJU improves to 3-3-0 year to date. 
Mamadou Guirassy - Senior - Forward - NJIT  Guirassy continues to come up with big plays for the Highlanders. He scored the lone goal in NJIT's 1-0 win over LIU Brooklyn and contributed two goals and an assist in their victory over St. Francis Brooklyn. The Highlanders improve to 5-0-1.  
Joh Gallagher - Senior - Forward - Notre Dame Gallagher found the back of the net three times to lead the Irish past Boston College 3-1. Notre Dame improves to 4-0-0.
Mikkel Pederson - Junior - Forward - Kentucky   Pederson played a key role on the offensive side of the ball for the Wildcats. He contributed a goal in Kentucky's 2-2 tie with Louisville and netted the game-winniwing goal in the Wildcat's 1-0 victory over UAB. 
Bradon Bye - Senior - Midfielder - Western Michigan Bye had a productive week of play contributing a goal in Western Michigan's 2-0 win over Cincinnati, their 3-2 win over Butler, and in their 2-1 victory over Drake. The Broncos improve to 5-0-1.  
Rollie Rocha - Senior - Midfielder - Tulsa  Rocha converted two penalty kicks to give Tulsa the edge they needed to upset Stanford 2-0. 
Matin Nygaard - Junior - Defender - Northeastern   Nygaard converted a penalty kick in the 108th minute of play to give Norheastern a solid 2-1 win over UMass Lowell before 2,000 fans at Parson's Field. 
Markus Fjortoft - Senior - Defender - Duke Fjortoft was part of a very solid Blue Devil defense that opened ACC play with a solid 3-1 win over Virginia Tech. Duke is now 4-0-1. 
Drake Callander - Sophomore - Goalkeeper - California Callander had a nine save evening including a big stop on a penalty kick to give the Golden Bears the edge they needed to upset Portland 2-1 in overtime.
