College Soccer News National Team Of The Week - Week Ending November 1, 2015

Jordan Morris - Junior - Forward - Stanford Morris continues to make big plays for the Cardinal. This week he assisted on teammate Tomas Hilliard's goal and added a goal of his own to help Stanford top San Diego State University 3-1. He also netted the insurance goal from twelve yards out in Stanford's 2-0 on the road win over Oregon State. Stanford is unbeaten in their last fifteen contests to improve to 13-1-2 overall with a 6-0-2 mark in Pac-12 play. Their remaining regular season dance card includes games with Washington and California. 
Brandon Allen - Senior - Forward - Georgetown  Big time players make big time plays which is exactly what Allen did last week to play a key role in Georgetown's 3-2 win over Seton Hall and 2-1 victory over Villanova in Big East action. In the win over Seton Hall he converted a penalty kick and scored the game-winning goal in overtime after displaying a nice touch on the ball to create the space needed to score. In the win over Villanova he scored the game-winner off a picture perfect give and go with Arun Basuljevic. Georgetown improves to 12-2-2 with a perfect 8-0-0 mark in conference play. The Hoyas have a big Big East contest coming up on Thursday when they host Creighton.  
Christian Thierjung - Junior - Forward - California  

Few players in the country have recently made more of an impact than Thierjung who continues to come through in the clutch for the Golden Bears. This week he scored the game-winning goal after displaying a lot of hustle and skill out of a counter attack in the eighty-eighth minute of play to power the Golden Bears past Washington on the road. He also scored from ten yards out to help California top Oregon State 2-1. The Golden Bears have won four consecutive Pac-12 contests to improve to 9-5-2 overall with a 4-3-2 mark in Pac-12 play.  

Vince Erdei - Sophomore - Forward - Stony Brook Erdei had a big week of play. He drove a header into the back of the net after receiving a cross from Serge Gamwanya and deposited a chip shot into the back of the net after receiving a through ball from Devin Flanagan to power the Seawolves past Hofstra 3-0. He also scored the game-winning goal in overtime in Stony Brook's 2-1 America East victory over Binghamton.  The Seawolves improve to 7-6-3 with a 3-2-1 mark in America East play. 
Afonso Pinheiro - Sophomore - Forward - Albany Pinheiro, who is from Sao Paulo, Brazil, became the new UAlbany Division I program leader in single season goals scored with ten when he scored twice and also contributed an assist to lead the Great Danes past Vermont 3-0. Albany has now won its last four America East Conference contests to improve to 9-7-1 overall with a 4-2-0 mark in conference play.  
Felix DeBona - Junior - Forward - Boston Univesity DeBona converted a penalty kick and sent a bullet into the back side of the frame from fifteen yards out to lead the Terriers to a 2-1 victory over Holy Cross. He also drove a header into the back of the net from inside the box with a double assist from teammates T.J. Butzke and Danny Foen in Boston Universities' 1-1 tie with Army. DeBona leads Boston University in scoring with a total of eight goals to date. The Terriers are now 11-4-2 overall with a 5-1-2 record in Patriot League play.  
David Olsen - Sophomore - Forward - Seattle Olsen continues to add punch to Seattle's attack and earns another spot on the College Soccer News National Team of the week. This week he contributed a hat trick to power the Redhawk attack to a 4-2 win over Incarnate Word. Olsen has netted a total of eleven goals to date. The Redhawks improve to 15-3-0 and have clinced the Western Athletic Conference regular season title with an 8-1-0 mark in conference play. Seattle will travel to face Utah Valley next Saturday to close out regular season play. 
Matt Vasquenza - Sophomore - Forward - Xavier   Matt Vasquenza came through once again in the clutch for the Muskeeters when he alertly took control of a deflection in the box and caused the back of the net to ripple with just over a minute remaining in regulation to give Xavier a big 2-1 win in Omaha over the Creighton Bluejays.  It was the second straight game-winning goal for  It was the second straight game-winning goal for Vasquenza. Josh Grant also scored for Xavier in that contest when he converted a header after receiving a cross form Majed Osman. The Musketeers also topped Seton Hall to improve to 11-4-1 overall with a 5-2-1 mark in Big East play. 
Noah Hutchins - Sophomore - Midfielder - Kentucky Hutchins came up huge for the Wildcats when he drove a shot from outside the box into the upper left corner of the goal with just under five minutes to play in the second overtime period to give Kentucky a 2-1 win over Charlotte on the road. The win clinced at least a share of the Conference USA regular season championship for Kentucky. The Wildcats are now 10-3-2 with a 6-0-1 record in conference play. Kentucky closes out regular season play when they host Detroit on Tuesay in a non-conferece match and FIU on Saturday in a CUSA contest.   
Jack Harrison - Sophomore - Midfielder - Wake Forest  The Demon Deacon linkman who hails from Bolton, England had a productive week of play scoring twice and contributing an assist in just twenty minutes of play to lead Wake Forest to a 4-0 non-conference win over Davidson. He also made a nice run and finished by skillfully and patiently placing a shot just inside the right post in Wake Forest's 4-2 on the road win over Louisville in ACC play. The Demon Deacons complete regular season play with a stellar 14-1-2 overall record and a 6-0-2 record in conference play. 
Danny Deakin - Junior - Midfielder - South Carolina  Deakin's play on both sides of the ball helped the Gamecocks get back in the win column with solid Conference USA victories over FIU 2-0 and Old Dominion 3-1. Deakin contributed a goal in both contests. He has scored ten goals to date and contributed two assists. South Carolina improves to 9-6-1 overall with a 6-2-0 mark in conference play. The Gamecocks close out regular season play with the opportunity to pick up another high profile win when they host non-conference foe Coastal Carolina Saturday night.  
Jordi Lluch - Senior - Defender - Winthrop  The Eagle center back had a very productive week. He scored and contriubuted an assist in Winthrop's 3-2 loss to highly regarded Coastal Carolina in which the Eagles sustained their first Big South loss of the season. He also scored twice to help Winthrop top Campbell 4-1 to win their last 2015 regular season home contest at Eagle Field. The game was the last regular season home game for veteran Winthrop head coach Rich Posipanko who has has a stellar career at the helm of the program. Winthrop is now 8-6-1 overall with a 6-1-1 record to date in Big South action. 
Nathan Ingham - RS Senior - Goalkeeper - FGCU Ingham consistently makes the big saves that he needs to make in order to give the Eagles the opportunity to prevail. This week he had four saves in FGCU's 4-0 shutout win over USC Upstate in an Atlantic Sun Conference match. He also had three saves between the pipes to anchor a stout FGCU defensive effort in a solid 1-0 non-conference win over UNCW. Ingham has seven clean sheets so far this year with a total of twenty-six career shutouts. A very good FGCU team improves to 7-3-3 with a 4-0-1 mark in Atlantic Sun Conference play.  

 

College Soccer News National Team Of The Week - Week Ending October 25, 2015

Abu Danladi - Sophomore - Forward - UCLA Danladi scored twice to power UCLA to a 6-0 win over California on Monday. His first goal came after a great individual effort in which he quickly pushed the ball down the middle of the pitch and then drove a shot into the far left corner of the goal. His second goal came after he took advantage of a defensive miscue to intercept a pass and slot the ball between the legs of the keeper. Danladi also scored and assisted on teammate Seyi Adekoya's goal in the Bruin's 2-2 tie with Stanford and contributed a goal in their 4-3 loss to California on Sunday. UCLA is now 7-7-1 with a 3-3-1 mark in Pac-12 play.
Tucker Hume - RS Junior - Forward - North Carolina Hume has added additional and timely punch to the Tar Heel attack all year. He netted a goal and assisted on teammate Warren Marshall's first score in North Carolina's 6-1 thumping of non-conference foe Campbell.  He also converted a header out of a throw-in from Jordan McCrary in North Carolina's 2-1 win over Louisville in an ACC contest. The Tar Heels up their record to 13-1-1 with a 6-1-0 mark in ACC action.
Maik Schoonderwoerd - Senior - Forward - Dayton Schoonderwoerd produced a hat trick in the first staza of play to lead the Flyers to a 4-1 victory over Massachusetts in an Atlantic 10 match. His first goal was a header out of a free kick served in by Michael Frasca. His second goal was a header of a cross from Amass Amankona. His third score was from within the box with Frasca again contributing the assist. Dayton is now 9-4-2 overall with a 4-0-1 mark in conference play.
Silvert Daehlie - Freshman - Forward - Radford Daehlie drove a shot into the back of the net after receiving a cross from fellow freshman Jakob Stransater and scored in the box with an assist from sophomore Evan Szklennik to lead Radford past Liberty 3-0. He also scored twice in Radford's 5-0 win over Gardner-Webb. Daehlie has scored ten goals to date. The Highlanders improve to 12-2-1 with a 7-1-0 mark in Big South play. Liberty has big games coming up next week with non-conference foe Elon and Big South foe Coastal Carolina.
Jason Wright - Sophomore - Forward - Rutgers Wright continues to make big playes for the Scarlet Knights. He made a nice move off the dribble after receiving a punt from goalkeeper David Greczek and scored from six yards out to net Rutger's fist goal in their 2-0 win over Army. He also controlled then placed the rebound of teammate Miles Hackett's missed shot into the back of the goal to give the Scarlet Knights the edge they needed to top Ohio State 1-0. Wright has scored a total of thirteen goals so far this year. Rutgers improves to 10-4-1 overall with a 4-3-0 mark in Big Ten play.
Ethan Kutler - Junior - Forward - Colgate Kutler assisted on the goals scored by teammates Tyler Forbes and Aram Ouligan and scored himself from around the top of the box in Colgates' 3-3 tie with Hartwick. He also netted the game-winning goal off a give and go with teammate Jared Stroud to score from within the box to lead the Raiders to a 1-0 win over Navy in a Patriot League match. Colgate is now 7-6-2 with a 4-2-0 mark in conference play.
Kyle Parker - Senior - Forward - Charlotte Parker and his Charlotte teammates appear to be gaining momentum.  This week Parker converted a penalty kick, drove a one-timer into the lower right corner of the goal after a nice combination of passes from Brandt Bronico and Dominic Bonilla, and assisted on teammate Callum Montgomery's goal in Charlotte's 5-0 win over Virginia Tech. He also controlled the rebound of his own missed shot and slotted it into the top left corner of the frame to help the 49ers top South Carolina 2-0. Charlotte is now 7-4-2 overall and 4-0-1 in CUSA action.
Jabari Danzy - Senior - Midfielder - SIUE Danzy converted a header after receiving a cross from Justin Bilyeu and also alertly redeposited the rebound of his own missed shot into the back of the frame to play a key role in SIUE's gutsy come from behind win over Drake in a MVC game. Ivan Gutierrez netted the game-winner for the Cougars in overtime with Bilyeu contributing his second helper of the evening. SIUE has now won five straight to improve to 9-3-1 with a 3-1-0 mark in MVC action. SIUE has a big MVC contest coming up on Saturday when they travel to face Bradley.
Jackson Eskay - Senior - Midfielder - William and Mary Eskay had a productive week of play. He drove a bullet into the right side of the goal from twenty-five yards out and assisted on the goals scored by teammates Ryder Bell and Marcel Berry in William and Mary's 4-2 win over UNC Ashville. He also placed a shot into the right corner of the goal from just outside the box and scored from inside the box after making a nice move to create space to help the Tribe top Drexel 3-0 in a CAA contest. William and Mary improves to 6-7-2 with a 2-5-0 mark in CAA play.
Chase Minter - Senior - Midfielder - Cal Poly Minter is a playmaker who makes good things happen. In Cal Poly's 2-0 win over Sacramento State he provided the helper on the goals scored by Justin Dhillon and Bjorn Sandberg. In Cal Poly's dramatic come from behind 2-2 tie with rival UC Santa Barbara before a crowd of 14,919 fans at Harder Stadium, he began the come back for the Mustangs when he scored after receiving a pass from Jack O'Connor. Teammate freshman forward Jared Pressley also scored for Cal Poly with four ticks remaining on the clock in regulation.
Grant Lillard - Sophomore - Defender - Indiana Lillard was solid on both sides of the ball. He assisted on teammate BillyMcConnell's goal in IU's 2-1 win over Louisville. He also drove a header into the back of the net after it was set up by a double assist from teammates midfielder Matt Foldsey and forward Femi Hollinger-Janzen.  Indiana improves to 9-4-2 with a 2-3-1 mark in Big Ten play. IU closes out regular season play with when they host Wisconsin and travel to face Michigan State.
Zak Allen - Senior - Goalkeeper - Northwestern The Northwestern netminder who is from Chicago had an outstanding week between the pipes anchoring a stout defense that recorded a 1-1 tie with Notre Dame and topped Michigan State 1-0. Allen had twelve saves in the contest with the Irish and seven in the game with Big Ten foe Michigan State. Several of his stops were in the spectacular category and were definitely difference makers. Northwestern is 6-6-2 overall with a 3-3-0 record in Big Ten play.

 

College Soccer News National Team Of The Week - Week Ending October 18, 2015

Grant Bell - Senior - Forward - Bradley Bell helped jump start a previously sluggish Bradley attack when he scored twice and contributed an assist to lead the Braves past Evansville 5 to 1. He also scored from the top of the box after receiving a pass from Richard Olson and assisted on teammate Frank Bak's goal as a rejuvinated Bradley offense rolled to a 4-0 win over Missouri State.  The Braves are now 6-7-0 with a 3-0-0 record in Missouri Valley Conference play. 
Jordan Morris - Junior - Forward - Stanford Morris helped the Cardinal earn two solid on the road wins in Pac-12 play. He sent a bullet into the upper right corner of the goal to net what proved to be the game-winner in Stanford's 2-1 win over UCLA. He also scored Stanford's first goal when he placed a rebound into the back of the net in their 3-1 win over San Diego State. Morris has scored six goals to date including three game-winners. Stanford improves to 11-1-1 with a 4-0-1 mark in conference play.  
Danny Jensen - Junior - Forward - Ohio State Jensen's header with assists from Christian Soldat and Kyle Culbertson gave the Buckeyes the edge they needed to top Kentucky 1-0. He also assisted the goals scored by Soldat and Culbetson to help Ohio State defeat Wisconsin 2-0 to win their seventh consecutive contest. The Buckeyes are 8-4-2 overall with a 3-1-1 mark in Big Ten Conference play. 
David Olsen - Sophomore - Forward - Seattle Olsen had a three goal weekend to lead the Redhawks to a 3-1 win over CSU Bakersfield and a 1-0 win over San Jose State in WAC play. He scored with an assist from senior forward Michael Roberts and converted a bicycle kick in the contest with CSU Bakersfield. He also netted the lone goal of the contest in the victory over San Jose State. The Redhawks improve to 12-3-0 with a 5-1-0 mark in WAC action. 
Zach Mathers - Senior - Midfielder - Duke Mathers lead a red hot Blue Devil attack netting a hat trick and contributing an assist to power Duke past N.C. State 6-2 in an ACC contest at Koskinen Stadium in Durham. His first score came out of a penalty kick. His second goal was a blast from twenty yards out. His third goal came when he drove a rebound back into the net. Mathers also assisted on teammate Ryan Thompson's goal. Mathers has scored seven goals to date and contributed four assists. Duke improves to 6-6-2 with a 1-4-1 mark in conference play.  
Amass Amankona - GS - Midfielder - Dayton Amankona netted a hat trick to lead Dayton past LaSalle 5-0 in an Atlantic Ten game. HIs first goal was from six yards out with a double assist from Alex Amankwaah and Maik Cross. His second goal was out of a corner kick put in play by Amankwaah. Amankona's third goal was a header to the right side of the net after receiving a cross from Amankwaah. The Flyers improve to 8-4-2 with a 3-0-1 mark in conference play. Amankona leads the Dayton attack with nine goals and three assists to date. 
Jacori Hayes - Junior - Midfielder - Wake Forest  Hayes once again came up big for the Demon Deacons in a clutch situation when he made a nice move to create the space he needed to drive a shot off the right post into the back of the net to give Wake Forest a victory over previously undefeated North Carolina 1-0 in an ACC contest that took place before a crowd of 5,070 fans at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem. The Deacons improve to 10-1-2 overall with a 4-0-2 record in ACC play under the direction of first year head coach Bobby Muuss. The Tar Heels drop to 11-1-1 with a  5-1-0 mark in conference play. 
Richie Laryea - Sophomore - Midfielder - Akron  Laryea contributed a hat trick to help power Akron past Northern Illinois 4-0 in a key MAC contest. His first two goals came from heads up play that enabled him to take advantage of defletions that he was able to redirect and send into the back of the goal. His third score came out of a give and go senario with assists from teammates Goncalo Soares and Sam Gainford. Akron has now won six straight to improve to 10-2-1 with a 2-0-0 mark in conference play. Laryea has produced nine goals and three assists so far this year.  
Francesco Casucci - Freshman - Midfielder - New Mexico  Casucci ignited a Lobo comeback from two goals down in the second stanza when he converted a header after receiving a cross from Josh Goss. He also scored out of a free kick from eighteen yards out and provided an assist along with Chris Wehan on Sam Gleadle's game-winning goal.  New Mexico improves to 7-4-2 overall with a 1-3-0 mark in CUSA play. 
Skyler Milne - Junior - Midfielder - Utah Valley Milne who hails from Bluffdale, Utah made a place for himself in the Utah Valley record books when he netted the program's first hat trick in the proces of leading the Wolverines to a 3-2 win over San Jose State University. UV also played to a scoreless draw with CSU Bakersfield. Milne has scored six goals so far this year and contributed two assists. Utah Valley is 11-3-1 overall with a 4-1-1 mark in WAC play. 
Drew Morgan - Senior - Defender - Rutgers Morgan converted a header out of a corner kick with an assist from senior defender Mitch Lurie to help the Scarlet Knight secure a 2-0 win over Penn. Morgan also converted a header again served in by teammate Lurie in Rutger's 4-2 win over Northwestern in a Big Ten match. Morgan was also solid contributor on the defensive side of the ball. Rutgers has now won four straight to improve to 8-4-1 overall with a 3-3-0 mark in conference play.  
Tommy Gudmundsson - Soph. - Defender - Coastal Carolina  The Chanticleer centerback was a key part of a solid Coastal Carolina defensive effort that resulted in a 2-1 win over Campbell and a 1-0 win over Liberty in Big South Conference play. Gudmundsson also scored out of a corner kick to net the lone goal in Coastal's win over Liberty. The Chanticleers get back in the win column and improve to 9-1-1 with a 4-1-0 mark in Big South play. 
Sven Lissek - Senior - Goalkeeper - Furman   Lissek who is from Sewau, Germany was rock solid between the pipes to help Furman defeat ETSU 2-0 and tie old nemisis UNCG 0-0 in Southern Conference action. He has five saves in the win over ETSU and three saves including a game saving stop at point blank range in the contest with UNCG. Furman improves to 5-4-3 overall with a 4-1-1 mark in conference play to hold the top spot in Southern Conference play.  

 

College Soccer News National Team Of The Week - Week Ending October 11, 2015

George Campbell - Sophomore - Forward - Maryland Campbell, who hails from Baltimore, played a vital part in Maryland's 4-3 come from behind win over Penn State. His first goal in that contest came in the closing seconds of the first half out of a corner kick put in play by freshman Jorge Calix. Campbell also scored two unassisted goals in the second half to complete the hat trick and pave the way for a solid on the road Big Ten win for the Terps. Maryland also topped non-conference foe Villanova 2-0 earlier in the week and is now 6-3-3 overall with a 2-1-2 record in conference play. 
Jose Aguinaga - Sophomore - Forward - Rider Aguinaga and his Rider teammates had a productive week of play. Aguinaga converted a header after receiving a pass from Adrien Huss to score Rider's lone goal in their 1-1 tie with Monmouth. He also scored twice including the game-winning goal in overtime to lead the Broncs to a 3-2 come from behind win over Sienna. Rider improves to 7-4-1 overall with a 2-2-1 record in MAAC play. 
Mauro Cichero - Sophomore - Forward - SMU Cichero is among the reasons that SMU is playing so well this year. He contributed the insurance goal in SMU's 3-1 on the road win over Memphis and his header out of a free kick with an assist from Jared Rice proved to be the game-winning goal in the Mustang's 1-0 win over Connecticut. SMU improves to 9-2-2 with a 4-0-0 mark in American Athletic Confence play.  
NIck DePuy - Junior - Forward - UC Santa Barbara DePuy had another blockbuster week to earn back-to-back spots on the CSN National Team of the Week. This week he took advantage of a defensive miscue to intercept a pass and then utilized his speed off the dribble to create the angle he needed to place a shot into the far post from six yards out to help the Gauchos top UC Riverside 2-0. He also netted the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Gauchos the edge they needed to top C.S. Fullerton 2-1. UCSB improves to 9-3-1 overall with a 4-0-0 mark in Big West Conference play. 
Dominick Faletto - Freshman - Forward - Houston Baptist  Faletto and his HBU teammates had a productive weekend of play upsetting Seattle 3-1 and Utah Valley 2-1 in WAC play. Faletto contributed the assist on Marcelo Acuna's game-winner and scored out of a breakaway in the win over Seattle. He also found the back of the net in the vicory over Utah Valley. Houston Baptist improves to 6-6-0 with a 2-2-0 mark in conference play.  
Devyn Jambga - Sophomore - Forward - SIUE Jambga played a key role in two Cougar wins this week. He took advantage of a turnover around the top of the 18-yard box to net SIUE's first goal in their 2-1 win over a very competitive Butler team. He also skillfully weaved his way through two defenders and sent a shot into the far post in the Cougar's 2-1 win over Northwestern. Jambga has rippled the net a total of five times so far this year. The Cougars have reeled off three consecutive wins to improve to 7-3-1 with a 1-1-0 mark in MVC action. 
Napo Matsoso - Junior - Midfielder - Kentucky Matsoso helped make a lot of good things happen for the Wildcats in their 4-1 win over Evansville. He contributed an assist on the goals scored by teammates Kevin Barajas, Sam Miller, and Stefan Stojkovic. He also placed a shot into the upper right hand corner of the goal out of a free kick from thirty yards out. Kentucky has now won five straight contests to up their overall record to 7-2-1.  
Ivan Militar - Redshirt Senior - Midfielder - ODU Militar contributed an assist on defender David Macsicza's goal and made a nice move to create the space he needed to place a shot into the lower left corner of the frame after receiving a through ball from Jose Henriquez to help power Old Dominion past New Mexico 2-0 in a key CUSA contest. The Monarchs improve to 7-1-1 overall with a 3-0-1 record in conference play. 
Ian Svantesson - Senior - Defender - UAB Svantesson came up big for the Blazers in their 4-3 come from behind win over FIU. He scored UAB's first goal and also netted the game-winner in this CUSA contest. UAB picks up what looks to be a momentum and confidence building win and improves to 4-7-0 with a 1-2-0 record in conference play. UAB head coach Mike Getman stated, "Ian is a big time player. I thought tonight he was the man of the match, no question about it."
Liam Doyle - Senior - Defender - Ohio State

Doyle was a solid contributor on both sides of the ball for the Buckeyes. He contributed the assist on Austin Bergstrom's goal and assisted on Christian Soldat's game-winning goal in overtime in Ohio State's 2-1 win over Bowling Green in a non-conference contest. He also came up big for the Buckeyes when he converted a penalty kick in overtime to give Ohio State the edge they needed to top Indiana 1-0 in Bloomington in a key Big Ten match. After a slow start at the beginning of the season, the Buckeyes have rebounded to win five straight to improve to 6-4-2 overall with a 2-1-1 mark in conference play. 

Evan Mendez - Senior - Goalkeeper - Harvard  The veteran Harvard netminder from Ballston Spa, New York anchored a very solid Crimson defensive effort that resulted in a 1-0 shutout of New Hampshire and a 2-0 clean sheet over Ivy League foe Cornell. Mendez had four saves in each contest. He has now recorded three shutouts to date in 2015 with ten career shutouts under his belt. Harvard gains momentum and improves to 4-4-2 overall with a 2-0-0 mark to date in Ancient Eight action.
