College Soccer News' National Team of the Week recognizes individual performers across the county on both sides of the ball who played a key role in the success that their teams enjoyed during the week. 

Anders Engebretsen

Engebretsen had a very productive evening scoring three times to help power St. Mary's past Portland 5-1. The Gaels concluded West Coast Conferece play with a perfect 7-0-0 record for the first time in program history. Engebretsen has scored a total of sixteen goals so far this year and conrtributed eight assists. 

Sam Snaith

Coastal Carolina

Snaith's header out of a corner kick proved to be the game-winning goal in Coastal Carolina's 2-1 win over Appalachian State. He also scored a  clutch goal out of corner kick with just over a minute remaining in regulation to knot the score at 1-1 with Georgia State and send the contest into overtime. The Chants subsequently prevailed in a penalty kick shootout to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.   

Adam Mickelson

UC Davis

Mickelson was at the heart of UC Davis' attack as they topped Cal State Fullerton 2-0 and UC Santa Barbara 2-0 on the road to winning the Big West Conference Tournament and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament. He scored in the contest with CS Fullerton and assisted on Kristian Heptner's goal in the title contest with UCSB.

Washington

Parish made the most of his time on the field  scoring twice within a twenty-nine second span of time in the second half of play to propel the Huskies past Oregon State 3-1. Washington nails down the Pac-12 Conference title and concludes regular sesaon play with a 15-3-0 overall record.   

Ian Rees

Campbell

Rees helped Campbell claim the Big South Championship for the second year in a row. He contributed a goal in their 3-0 win over Presbyterian and in their 4-1 win over High Point and was named the tournament MVP. The Camels are a perfect 8-0-0 in conferece play and are unbeaten in their last fourteen games to improve to 16-2-2 overall. 

Josh Plimpton

Iona

Plimpton scored three times in the MAAC Tournament. He scored  what proved to be the game winning goal in Iona's 2-1 win over Rider and scored in Iona's 2-1 win over Quinnipiac. He followed that up by scoring the goal that sent Iona into overtime against Saint Peter's. Mauro Bravo then scored in overtime for the Gaels to defeat Saint Peters 3-2 and earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Bauer was named the MVP of the America East Conference Tournament for the second year in a row. New Hampshire defeated UMass Lowell 3-0 and Hartford 1-0. Bauer helped anchor a Wildcat defene that liimited UMass Lowell to four shots on goal and provided the game-winning goal in the shutout win over Hartford. 

James Kessler

Virginia 

Kessler was a key part of a stringent Cavalier defense. Virginia limited a very good Wake Forest team to only one shot on goal in a 1-0 shutout win. Kessler and his Virginia teammates also showed a ton of grit on both sides of the ball coming from a goal down to defeat a high powered Clemson side 3-1 in the ACC Championship match. Kessler was named the MVP of the ACC Tournament. 

Niclas Mohr

James Madison

Mohr was solid on both sides of the ball for James Madison. He converted a penalty kick in the penalty kick shootout to help JMU advance past Hofstra after the contest was tie 1-1 at the end of 110 minutes of play. He also placed a shot into the upper left corner of the goal in overtime to give the Dukes the edge they needed to top UNCW 1-0. JMU improves to 11-6-3 and claims the CAA championship for the second year in a row.

Munjoma was part of a solid SMU defense that topped South Florida 2-1 and that limited a very talented UCF team to only four shots on goal in a 1-0 win in the AAC championship contest in which he scored the game-winner after receiving a cross from teammate Lane Warrington. 

Jack Maher

Indiana

Maher was a key part of an Indiana defense that didn't allow a goal in the Big Ten Tournament. The Hoosiers advanced past Ohio State 2-0, Maryland 1-0 and Michigan in a contest  that was decided by a penalty kick shootout after it was scoreless at the end of regulation and overtime. Maher scored  Indiana's lone goal in the win over Maryland.

Waite was a difference maker between the pipes for Fairleigh Dickinson. He had seven saves including three during a penalty kick shootout to help the Knights advance past Saint Francis in a penalty kick shootout after the contest was scoreless after 110 minutes of play.  He also make two saves during a penalty kick shootout to help FDU advance past LIU after that contest was tied 1-1 at the end of 110 minutes of play.

The College Soccer News National Team of the Week features difference makers on both sides of the ball who played a key role in the success that their teams enjoyed during the week.  

Preston Judd

Judd scored twice to give  Denver the punch they needed on the offensive side of the ball to top Purdue Fort Wayne 3-1 in Summit League play. He placed a shot inside the far post from thirty yards out and sent a bending ball into the frame from outside the box. Denver will face Oral Roberts in the semifinals of the Summit League Tournament. 

Matt Thorsheim

Thorsheim found the back of the net twice and a stout Bucknell defense enabled the number six seeded Bison to  defeat number three seeded Navy 2-0 in the Patriot League Tournament. Thorsheim converted a penalty kick and scored out of a free kick from just outside the box. He now has seven goals so far this year. Bucknell advances to the tournament semifinals where they will face number one seed Lehigh.

Wintermeyer came through in the clutch for the Braves with a three goal week.  He scored the game-winning goal with only twenty-three seconds remaining in Bradley's 2-1 win over Western Illinois and scored twice including the game-winner in Bradley's 2-1 win over Evansville. Number three seed Bradley will face number six seed Evansville in the first round of the MVC Tournament.

Pedra has been a difference maker for UNCG. He followed up a hat trick in the Spartans 3-1 win over ODU with a crucial two goal effort to help UNCG come from two goals down to defeat a game Belmont team 3-2. Pedra drew and converted a penalty kick and placed a shot into the side netting in overtime in the win over Belmont. UNCG and Mercer will square off in the SoCon Tournament final.

Marshall 

Roberts scored twice in the first half to play a key role in Marshall's 2-1 win over FIU in Miami. The win enabled the Thundering Herd to secure its first ever CUSA regular season title. Joao Souza provided the assist on Roberts' first goal and Vitor Dias on the second. Marshall improves to 13-2-3 and will face the winner of the Kentucky and FAU match in the upcoming CUSA Tournament.

Arribas was a catalyst on the offensive side of the ball for the Knights contributing three assists in their 5-0 win over Mount Saint Mary's. The win enabled Fairleigh Dickinson to punch their ticket to the upcoming Northeast Conference Tournament where they will face number one seed Saint Francis.

Sukow found the back of the net twice in Loyola Chicago's 3-0 win over Valparaiso in MVC play. Chase Wright made a nice play to set up Sukow's first goal. Sukow alertly took advantage of a miscue on the defensive side of the ball to set up his second goal. The Ramblers will square off with the winner of the Bradley and Evansville game in the  MVC Tournament.

Central Arkansas 

Jensen scored in a variety of ways driving a shot into the bottom right corner, converting a header, and sending a bending ball into the back of the net for a three goal evening in Central Arkansas' 4-1 win over Howard. The Bears improve to 10-6-1 overall and secure the Sun Belt Conference regular season title with a 4-1-0 mark in league play.

Wolf made a nice move to create the space he needed to score after receiving a cross from Tiago Mendonca to net the insurance goal in Providence's 2-0 win over Saint John's. He also scored out of a corner kick and contributed a helper on teammate Paulo Lima's goal to help the Friars top Marquette 3-0 in the first round of the Big East Conference Tournament.

Oregon State 

Deniel was at the center of a solid and well organized Oregon State backline that limited Stanford to two shots on goal in route to a scoreless tie and limited California to one shot on goal in a 1-0 win. Oregon State is 8-5-2 with a 5-2-2 mark in Pac-12 play. The Beavers conclude regular season play when they host Washington on Friday.

Robin's goal gave Bowling Green the edge they needed to top Wright State University 1-0. He and goalkeeper Anthony Mwembia were also key ingredients in a Falcon defense that shutout NIU 1-0. Bowling Green improves to 11-6-1 with a rematch with NIU in the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament next on their dance card.

Kristiansen helped the Rams win their ninth consecutive contest by skillfully sending a bending ball into the back of the frame out of a corner kick and contributing two helpers as Rhode Island rolled past Davidson 7-3 in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Rhode Island improves to 13-3-2 and advances to the semifinals to tangle with Fordham.

Haupt earns another spot on the CSN National Team of the Week after assisting on the goals scored by teammates Max Arfsten and Adam Mickelson and playing a part in a solid defense that enabled UC Davis to secure a 2-0 win over Cal Sate Fullerton. The Aggies advance to the Big West Tournament championship contest where they will face a UCSB team that they tied 1-1 during regular season play..

Thomas made the key stops he needed to make to place the Cardinal in position to win. He had four saves in Stanford's 0-0 tie with Oregon State on the road and five stops in their 1-0 win on the road over Washington.  Thomas has eight solo shutouts so far this year with a 0.60 goals against average. Stanford hosts California on Thursday to conclude regular season play.

Wake Forest 

Harris made a nice move off the dribble to secure the angle he needed to thread a shot inside the far post and decisively drove a one-timer into the near post after receiving a cross from teammate Machop Chol to play a key role in Wake Forest's 3-1 win on the road over Louisville. The Demon Deacons are 13-3-1 with a 6-2-0 mark in ACC play.  

 

Matthew Vowinkel

Vowinkel scored twice enabling Hofstra to come from behind to tie Binghamton 2-2. He followed that up with a three goal evening to propel the Pride to a 3-0 victory over Northeastern in a Colonial Athletic Association contest. Hofstra improves to 8-6-2 overall with a 5-2-1 mark in conference action.

Goodrum scored twice and contributed the assist on Wilhelm Nilsson's goal to lead a surging UNCW team to a 3-0 win over VCU on the road. He also converted a penalty kick in overtime to give the Seahawks the edge they needed to top Elon in a CAA contest. Goodrum has scored ten goals so far this year.

Sload came through in the clutch twice for Penn State. He decisively drove a shot into the right side of the frame in overtime to enable Penn State to come from two goals down to top Maryland 3-2. Sload also converted a header out of a corner kick in overtime in Penn State's 2-1 win over Rutgers.

Hubbard helped the Paladins pick up a 4-1 win over Wofford and a 2-1 win over Belmont to secure the program's twentieth regular season title. He scored twice in the win over Wofford and contributed the game-winner in the win over Belmont. Furman improves to 11-6-1 with a 5-1-0 mark in conference play.

Trager was a force on the offensive side of the ball with back-to-back hat tricks to power Air Force to a 4-3 win in overtime against Grand Canyon and a 3-2 win over UNLV in Western Athletic Conference play. The Falcons improve to 7-9-0 overall with a 6-4-0 mark in conference play.

Westmeyer provided the game-winning goal by skillfully sending a shot into the upper left corner of the net out of a free kick in Marshall's 2-1 win on the road over Oakland.  He also scored the lone goal of the match from inside the six yard box after receiving a cross from Milo Yosef in Marshall's 1-0 win over Kentucky in a key CUSA match.

Clarke played a key role in Colgate's come from behind 2-1 win over Navy in Patriot League play. Clark was solid on the defensive side of the ball and converted a header in the closing minutes of regulation to send the contest into overtime where Drew Fischer netted the game-winner for the Raiders. .

He was dominant in the air and also added an additional element to the Central Arkansas attack from his center back position in the Bears 2-0 win in Atlanta over Georgia State in Sun Belt Conference play. Central Arkansas improves to 9-6-1 with a 3-1-0 mark in conference play.

Roach was rock solid in goal recording a career-high ten saves to anchor a Gaucho defense that shutout Big West Conference opponent Cal Poly 2-0. UCSB improves to 11-3-4 overall with a 4-1-2 mark in conference play.

Brady had nine saves between the pipes to lead  an impressive South Carolina defense that shutout a very good FIU team 1-0 in Conference USA play. The Gamecocks improve to 7-8-2 overall and stay in the hunt for a berth in the upcoming CUSA Tournament.

This was the week of the playmaker throughout the country as individuals took over contests with multiple goals and/or assists to help their team secure wins. There were also outstanding performers on the defensive side of the ball who were rock solid difference makers.   

Garrett McLaughlin

McLaughlin scored three times within the first twenty-four minutes of the contest and added two more goals in the second half to power SMU past Cincinnati 7-1 in an AAC match. The Mustangs also topped Stetson 5-0 earlier in the week to improve to 12-1-1.

Dexter contributed the helper on the goals scored by teammates Edward Kizza and Velijko Petkovic and scored the game-winner in Pitt's 4 to 3 come from behind win over Duke in an ACC contest. Pitt is now 8-5-2 overall with a 4-2-1 record against in ACC play.

Cubero scored twice to lead the Highlanders to a 2-1 on the road win over FGCU in an ASUN Conference game. The win was NJIT's first-ever over FGCU. The Highlanders improve to  7-4-4 overall and move into the number one spot in the ASUN standings with a 4-1-1 record in conference play.

McGlynn assisted on the goals scored by Noe Meza and Hal Uderitz in Seattle's 2-1 win over Air Force. He also netted the game-winner in overtime with an assist from Meza in Seattle's 2-1 come from behind win over Utah Valley. The Red Hawks improve to 10-3-3 and extend their unbeaten streak to nine games.

Faletto scored four times including the game-winning goal in overtime to power Houston Baptist past Grand Canyon 4-3. HBU also topped UNLV 3-1 to improve to 5-9-0 with a 3-5-0 mark in WAC competition.

Maertins was a difference maker who came through in the cluth for NIU. He scored twice including the game-winning goal to led the Huskies past Western Michigan 3-2 in an MAC matchup. NIU improves to 7-7-1 with a 2-1-0 mark in MAC play.

Egbo was a catalyst for Akron in their 3-0 win over SIUE in a key MAC matchup. He assisted on the goals scored by teammates Mani Austmann and Will Jackson and scored from ten yards out with freshman midfielder Henrique Cruz providing the assist. Akron is 4-8-2 with a 2-0-1 mark in conference play.

Morris is a playmaker. . He assisted on the goals scored by teammates Joris Ahlinvi and Joe Schmidt and scored with an assist from Thomas Warr to help propel Indiana to a 3-0 win over Rutgers. The Hoosiers also defeated Evansville 5-1. Indiana is 10-2-3 overall and 5-1-0 in Big Ten play.

Sullivan was involved in the scoring of five of BGSU's seven goals during the week. He produced a goal and two assists in the Falcons 4-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne and contributed two assists in their 3-0 win over West Virginia. Sullivan has six goals and nine assists to date. BGSU is 9-5-1 overall.

Kherat was at the center of a solid Bradley defense that limited MVC opponents Loyola Chicago and Valparaiso to only four shots on goal. The Braves tied Loyola Chicago 0-0 and topped Valpo 1-0. Kherat scored the game-winning goal in the victory over Valpo. Bradley is 5-5-4 overall with a 4-3-2 record against MVC opponents.

The Terp centerback scored the game-winning goal in overtime in Maryland's 1-0 win over a very good Yale team. He also was part of a tenacious Maryland defense that shutout Big Ten foe Ohio State 2-0 on the road. Maryland improves to 9-4-2 with a 3-0-2 mark in conference play.  

Pierre Cayet

Cayet contributed on the offensive side of the ball and was part of a solid Temple defense that helped secure a 2-1 win over Louisvile and a 2-1 win over AAC foe UConn. Cayet drove a header into the back of the net out of a corner kick in both games. Temple improves to 7-6-1 with a 3-1-1 mark in AAC play.

Shutler simply continues to take care of business between the pipes for Virginia. He anchored a Cavalier defense that shutout Saint Louis 3-0 and Virginia Tech 2-0  Shutler had a seven save week during which recorded his twelfth shutout of the season. The Cavaliers improve to 13-1-1 with a 5-1-1 mark in ACC play.
