College Soccer News - National Team of the Week - Week Ending October 20, 2019

The College Soccer News National Team of the Week features top performers on both sides of the ball coast to coast who played a key role in the success their teams had during the week. 

Milo Yosef

Marshall 

 

Yosef played a key role in two solid Marshall wins on the road. He scored twice and had an assist in the Thundering Herds 4-1 win over Loyola Marymount. Yosef also contributed two goals in Marshall's 5-1 win over San Diego State. The Herd improves to 10-1-2 to reach double digits in wins for the first time since the 2012 season.

Seattle 

 

Morris converted three headers with two coming out of conrner kicks and the third coming out of the run of play from within the box to help power Seattle to a 3-2 win over CSU Bakersfield. Declan McGlynn recorded three assists to become the first Seattle player to do so in D1 Program history. Seattle improves to 8-3-3 with a 5-0-1 mark in WAC play.  

Dante Brigida

Oral Roberts

Brigida's eighth goal and fourth game-winner of the season gave Oral Roberts the edge they needed to defeat Denver 1-0 in overtime in a key Summit League matchup. Brigida scored from within the box with a double assist from teammates Juan Arias and Tanguy Gjerineau. Oral Roberts secures its first ever win over Denver and improves to 10-2-0 overall.

Clemson

Robinson displayed a variey of skills in route to netting his second hat-trick of the season in Clemson's 7-4 goal-a-rama victory over Syracuse in ACC action.  Clemson head coach Mike Noonan summed things up well when he stated, "He (Robinson) displayed clinical finishing, he worked intelligently and showed class and quality.  The Tigers improve to 11-1-1 with a 4-1-1 mark in conference play.  

Miguel Yuste

Yale

The Yale captain continues to be a difference maker. He sent a left footed shot into the back of the net from twenty yards out to give Yale the edge they needed to top UMass 1-0 in overtime. Yuste also added a goal in Yale's 3-1 win over Cornell when he drove a deflection into the net out of a free kick. Yale is unbeaten in their first eleven games for the first time since 1935 and 3-0-0 in Ivy Leage play for the first time since 1991. 

Bruno Lapa

Wake Forest

Lapa converted a penalty kick and assisted on teammate Kyle Holcomb's goal in Wake Forest's 5-0 win over William and Mary. He also sent a shot into the far post to propel Wake Forest past North Carolina 1-0. Lapa has scored in four straight contests during which time he has contributed five goals and two assists. The Demon Deacons are 12-2-0 with a 5-1-0 mark in ACC play. 

Charlie Sharp

Western Michigan

Sharp played a key role in Western Michigan's 2-1 win over Michigan and 1-1 tie with Akron. He scored the game-winner in the win over Michigan and contributed a helper on Eric Conerty's goal in the contest with Akron. Western Michigan is 9-4-1 overall with a 1-0-1 mark in MAC play. 

Aaron Molloy

Penn State

The Nittany Lion captain was a factor in two solid Penn State wins. He converted a penalty kick and assisted on Liam Butts' goal in Penn State's 3-1 win over Pittsburgh. He also scored out of a corner kick in Penn State's 2-1 win on the road over Wisconsin. Malloy has six goals and two assists. Penn State is 8-2-2 with a 4-1-1 mark in Big Ten play. 

Antonio Colacci

Colacci had four assists in New Hampshire's 4-0 win over UMass Lowell on the road. The linkman from Bradenton, Florida has scored four goals to date and has a total of seven assists. New Hampshire ups their record to 10-0-2 overall with a perfect 4-0-0 mark in America East Conference action.  

Artur De Luca

Memphis 

De Luca drove a header into the back of the net out of a corner kick in overtime to enable Memphis to upset SMU 4-3 in Dallas. He also assisted on teammate Peter Changs goal. Memphis improves to 9-3-0 with a 3-1-0 mark in American Athletic Conference play.  

Dylan Nealis

Georgetown

Nealis contributed on both sides of the ball as Georgetown shutout Maryland 1-0 and Xavier 1-0. Nealis is part of a solid Georgetown defense that recorded its fifth straight shutout and eighth of the season. The Hoyas improve to 11-1-0 with a 4-0-1 mark in Big East play. Georgetown and St. John's square off on Wednesday in a huge Big East mathup.

Person netted what proved to be the game-winning goal and was part of a rock solid Gael defense that shutout a very good San Diego team 3-0 in a key West Coast Conference contest. Saint Mary's improves to 11-1-0 with a 2-0-0 mark in conference play. 

Gabriel Gjergji

Butler 

Gjergji had a solid five save evening in goal to post his fourth shutout of the season in Butler's 4-0 win over Seton Hall in Big East Conference competition. Butler improves to 8-4-1 overall with a 2-2-1 record in conference play.

Miguel Berry

Berry is among the reasons why San Diego is off to a 9-1-1 start. Berry scored twice despite being a tightly marked man and contributed a helper on teammate Alex Churness' goal in San Diego's 4-0 win over San Francisco in a WCC match. Berry has scored ten goals so far this year.

Achara is a difference maker. He returned from injury to score Georgetown's first goal in their 2-0 win over Lehigh and scored twice to help power the Hoyas past Seton Hall 2-0 in a Big East Conference contest. Georgetown improves to 9-1-1 with a 3-0-1 mark in league play.

DaSilva had a productive week of play scoring twice to help power the Great Danes past Hofstra 4-1 and twice to lead Albany to a 2-0 win over UMass Lowell in an America East Conference game. DaSilva is an impact player who has scored a total of ten times this year. Albany is 6-4-1 overall with a 2-1-0 mark in America East play.  

Thibaut Jacquel

Jacquel continues to come up big for Campbell. He converted a header after receiving a cross from Dylan Sadler in Campbell's 3-1 come from behind win over Winthrop and contributed three goals and two helpers in Campbell's 6-2 thumping of Presbyterian. Jacquel has scored a total of thirteen times for the Camels who are 10-2-1 overall and 4-0-0 mark in Big South Conference play.

Penn State

The Nittany Lion freshman from Lawrenceville, Georgia gave Penn State the edge they needed to top Northwestern 3-2 in overtime. He found the upper right corner of the goal in regulation after making a strong move in the box to create the space he needed to score. He also alertly sent a rebound into the back of the frame in overtime.  

Rodney Michael

UCSB 

Michael is a playmaker. He assisted on teammate Ballard McBride Finn's goal and scored after receiving a through ball from Thibault Candia in UCSB's 2-0 win over Sacramento State.  He also scored and contributed an assist in the Gauchos 5-0 thumping of Cal State Fullerton. UCSB is unbeaten in its last ten contests and is now 9-2-2 overall.  

Ryan Raposo

Syracuse

Raposo displayed a variety of skills to create the space he needed to score three times including the game-winner with less than three minutes remaining in regulation to help Syracuse upset North Carolina 4-3  in Chapel Hill. The Orange scored three times in the last twenty minutes of regulation to secure the win and improve to 4-3-4 overall.   

Mohamed Conde

Conde assisted on the two goals scored by teammate Xavi Olmos Ferris in FIU's 3-2 win in overtime against in-state foe FGCU. He also contributed the game-winner from inside the box in the closing minutes of regulation to give FIU the edge they needed to top Kentucky 2-1 in Lexington. FIU improves to 9-0-3 with a perfect 4-0-0 mark in CUSA play. 

Nick Benjamin

Hartford

Benjamin scored out of a corner kick in the 89th minute of play to enable Hartford to tie St. Joseph's 2-2. He also drove a shot into the lower left corner of the goal in the 85th minute of play to give the Hawks a 1-0 win over Stony Brook.  The Hawks are unbeaten in their last ten contests to improve to 7-2-3. .   

Illal Osmanu

Osmanu was an integral part of a Marshall backline that held a very good Charlotte team to two shots on goal on the road in a scoreless CUSA contest. The Herd is undefeated in their last five contests and has recorded three consecutive shutouts. 

Alejandro Saez

Saez scored twice in UNCW's 2-0 win over Old Dominion and was part of a stout Seahawk defense that shutout the College of Charleston 1-0 in a CAA game. The Seahawks have won three in a row to improve to 7-4-1 with a 4-0-1 mark in CAA play. 

Patrick Schulte

Saint Louis

Schulte was sharp between the pipes for the Billikens making three saves in their  2-0 win over George Mason at Hermann Stadium and four saves in Saint Louis' 2-0 on the road win over LaSalle. Saint Louis has now won five straight contests to up their overall record to 8-3-0 with a 5-0-0 mark in Atlantic 10 play.

Rene White

NJIT

White continutes to be a force on the offensive side of the ball for NJIT. He scored twice in NJIT's 2-2 tie with LaSalle and twice in the Highlanders 5-0 win over VMI. White has scored eleven times this year to become NJIT's Division I All-Ttime scoring leader with twenty-eight career goals. The Highlanders improve to 4-3-4.

Sigurdarson scored twice to help power the Eagles past Wake Forest 2-0. He made a nice move down the right side of the field and drove a shot into the far post from twelve yards out and scored from eight yards out after receiving a pass from teammate Mike Suski. Boston College improves to 6-2-2 with a 1-2-1 mark in ACC play.

Goldsmith came through in the clutch for the Roadrunners producing the game-winners in their 1-0 win over UNLV and their 2-1 win over Grand Canyon in WAC contests.  Bakersfield improves to 3-6-0 overall with a 2-1 mark in WAC play.

Bodily played a key role in two impressive Washington wins. He pushed the ball down the right side and sent a cross to the far post which teammate Lucas Meek decisively headed into the back of the net in overtime to propel the Huskies past Stanford 2-1. Bodily also send a rebound into the back of the frame to net the game-winning goal in Washington's 1-0 win over California.

Greive scored three times in the second half to power NKU to a 3-2 come from behind win over UIC in Horizon League play. Greive's hat trick is the first in Northern Kentucky's tenure to date in Divsion I play. The Norse improve to 3-5-0 with a 2-2-0 mark in league play.  

Anthony Bowie

Bowie's goal proved to be the difference in Western Michigan's 1-0 win on the road over a good Xavier team.  He also alertly sent the rebound of teammate Charlie Sharp's shot into the back of the net to give the Broncos the edge they needed to defeat Loyola Marymount. Western Michigan improves to 6-4-0.

Soronellas sent a deflection back into the net thirty-seven seconds into the contest and sent a rocket into the back of the net from twenty yards out in the second stanza to help power UNF past rival Jacksonville in an ASUN Conference contest. The Ospreys improve to 3-3-2 with a 2-0-1 mark in conference play.

Gabarra contributed an  assist on the goals scored by teammates Kuda Muskwe and Pepe Garcia to help the Wolfpack top Notre Dame 2-0. Over fifty former NC State players were on had to participate in a halftime ceremony that honored recently passed legendary Wolfpack head coach George Tarantini. 

Edvin Akselsen

Akselsen made good things happen in Rhode Island's 3-1 come from behind win over Fordham. He scored and contributed an assist on the goals scored by teammates Filippo Tamburini and Stavros Zarokostas. The Rams improve to 5-3-2 overall with a 2-1-0 mark in A-10 play.

Bustamante contributed on both sides of the ball in St. John's 4-0 on the road win over Big East foe Marquette. He was part of a rock solid Red Storm defense that shutout Marquette and has allowed a total of only five goals so far this year. He also scored the game-winning goal with a double assist from Matt Forster and Einar Lye. St. John's is 9-1-0.

Afamefuna earns a spot on the CSN National Team of the Week for the second time this season. He was part of a very solid Cavalier defense that shutout George Washington 3-0 and Louisville 2-0. He also skillfully placed a shot in the top right corner of the frame out of a free kick in the win over George Washington. Virginia is now 10-0-0.  

Mathijs Swaneveld

Virginia Tech

Swaneveld was at the heart of a tough Virginia Tech defense that kept a powerful Clemson attack in check on the road in a contest that ended in a  scoreless draw after 110 minutes of play. The Hokies also shutout Gardner-Webb 4-0 earlier in the week. Virginia Tech is 6-2-2 with a 2-1-1 mark in conference play.

Jorge Gonzalez

Gonzalez continues to be a catalyst on the offensive side of the ball for the Cougars. He sent a half-volley into the back of the net from ten yards out in SIUE's 1-0 win over Kansas City and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the Cougars 2-0 win over Central Arkansas. SIUE is now 4-3-1.

Luchini had a very productive week. He sent a rocket into the back of the frame from the right side of the box that was set up by a nice pass from Michael Tahiru in Lehigh's 2-1 win over Penn. He also scored three times to help power the Mountain Hawks past Boston University 4-2. Lehigh improves to 6-2-0 with a 2-0-0 mark in Patriot League play.

Jacquel scored twice to lead Campbell past UNCW 2-0. He also sored twice including the game-winning goal in overtime in Campbell's 2-1 win over Radford in Big South Conference play. The Camels are now 6-2-1.

The Duke center midfielder is the glue that holds everything together for Duke. He made good things happen in Duke's 3-2 come from behind win over rival North Carolina in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest contributing an assist on teammate Daniel Wright's goal and scoring from twelve yards out after receiving a pass from Daniele Proch.

Elmedkhar has played a key role in Kentucky's offense. This week he assisted on  on teammate Daniel Evans' goal and scored in Kentucky's 2-0 win over Bowling Green. He also converted a penalty kick in the Wildcats 1-0 win over Coastal Carolina. Kentucky improves to 5-1-2.

Brito sent a rocket into the upper left corner of the net from fifteen yards out in overtime in Charlotte's 3-2 win over Wofford in which the 49ers scored three unanswered goals in the final twenty-four minutes of play. Brito also sent a blast into the bottom left corner of the goal from twenty-five yards out in Charlotte's 4-0 win over South Carolina.

Colacci is a playmaker. He assisted on teammate Jacob Gould's goal and converted a penalty kick to help lead New Hampshire past Quinnipiac 3-1. He also placed a shot into the upper right corner of the goal from twenty yards out with an assist from Jack Doherty in New Hampshire's 2-0 victory over Binghamton 2-0.

Megally came up big for the Ramblers scoring twice including the game-winner in overtime in Loyola Chicago's 2-1 win over a good Drake team. Megally has four goals and one assist to date. The Ramblers improve to 5-4-0 with a 2-2-0 mark in MVC play.

Muriel Albino scored twice to help power West Virginia past Ohio State 4-1. He also sent a bending ball into the far post from ten yards out in West Virginia's 3-0 victory over Penn. Muriel Albino has scored a total of six times so far this year. West Virginia is 6-2-1.

Golan was at the center of a Tribe backline that shutout Loyola Maryland 2-0 and Charleston 2-0. He also converted a header out of a free kick and assisted on teammate Nathan Messer's goal in the win over Charleston. 

Ben Stroud

Stroud contributed on both sides of the ball in Missouri State's 4-0 win over Western Illinois. MSU is off to a 7-0-0 start for the first time since the 1995 season. Stroud drove a header into the net out of a free kick and sent the rebound of his own shot into the back of the frame in the win over Western Illinois. 

Colin Shutler

Virginia 

Shutler recorded his seventh shutout of the season and the fifteenth of his career achoring a Virginia defense that shutout Notre Dame 1-0. Shutler's play between the pipes is among the reasons why the Cavaliers have only allowed one goal so far this year and are 8-0-0 for the first time since 2006.
