College Soccer News National Team Of The Week - Week Ending November 9, 2014

Robert Kristo - Senior - Forward - Saint Louis  Kristo is a finisher who has been coming up with big plays for Saint Louis since arriving on campus in 2011. His eleventh goal of the 2014 season and 38th carrear score was a blast to the far post out of a free kick that gave Saint Louis the edge they needed to secure a 1-0 win over VCU at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond. The Billikens improve to 12-3-2 overall with a 5-1-2 mark in A-10 play. 
Tyler Miguel - Sophomore - Forward - UC Riverside Miguel's first two goals of the 2014 season were big ones for the Highlanders. The opportunistic sophomore found the back of the net twice to provide the offense UC Riverside needed to top UC Irvine 2-0 on the road to secure the Big West South Division regular season title. Miguel alertly took advantage of a turnover in the box to net his first goal. He also netted the insurance goal from within the box after receiving a pass from teammate Philipp Dominique. 
Cameron Porter - Senior - Forward - Princeton Porter is a goal scoring machine. This week he drove a shot into the top left corner from fifteen yards out to help Princeton top American in a non-conference matchup. He also scored and contributed an assist to help power the Tigers past Penn 3-2 in an Ivy League contest. Porter has thirteen goals so far this year and three assists. Princeton improves to 10-3-3 with a 4-1-1 mark in conference play.   
Jordan Jones - Freshman - Forward - Oregon State Big plays create big wins. Jones took advantage of the scoring opportunities that came his way netting two key goals to help Oregon State upset California once again this year. Jones finished a header after receiving a cross with a double assist on the play credited to Brenden Anderson and Devonte Small. Jones also sent a strike into the bottom left corner of the frame from the top of the box in the 4-3 victory over California. Another freshman, Timmy Mueller provided the game winning goal for the Beavers.   
Zach Batteer - Senior - Forward - Stanford Batteer was a difference maker in Stanford's 2-0 win over California. He converted a header served into the center of the box by Austin Meyer and displayed both hustle and skill when he contributed the assist on teammate Jordan Morris' goal. Batteer has four goals this year and twenty career goals to date. The Cardinal also defeated Oregon State 2-1 to improve to 12-2-3 overall with a 5-1-3 mark in Pac-12 play. 
Lucas Diniz - Junior - Midfielder - Stetson Diniz scored twice to lead the Hatters past FAU 4-0 in a non-conference contest to close out regular season play with an 8-6-2 overall record and a 4-2-0 mark in A-Sun conference play. His first goal came from within the box after receiving a cross from teammate Jeppe Moe. Diniz's second score came out of a corner kick with Moe again contributing the assist. Diniz has scored seven goals and contributed nine assists so far this year.  
Mael Corboz - Junior - Midfielder - Maryland Corboz opened the scoring for the Terps off an assist from Alex Shinsky as Maryland closed out regular season play with a 3-2 win over Rutgers to secure the regular season Big Ten Title in their inaugural year as a member of the conference. He also converted a penalty kick in Maryland's 2-0 win over Rutgers in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tourney. The Terps now advance to play Michigan State. 
Patrick Hodan - Junior - Midfielder - Notre Dame Hodan provided the assist out of a corner kick on teammate Brandon Aubrey's goal and scored unassisted from sixteen yards out to help the Irish topple Virginia 3-0 in a quarterfinal match in the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament. Notre Dame improves to 11-4-3 and advances to face the Clemson Tigers.
Ken Krolicki - Freshman - Midfielder - Michigan State  Krolicki scored twice to lead the Spartans past Indiana 3-2. His first score was a bullet from twenty-five yards out with an assist from midfielder Dewey Lewis. Krolicki's second goal came from twelve yards out after he made a nice move in the box to create the angle he needed to find the back of the net.  Michigan State also topped Penn State 1-0 with senior forward Tim Kreutz driving a clean one-timer into the back of the net for the game winner.    
Vincent Keller - Junior - Defender - Creighton The Bluejay co-captain played a key role on both sides of the ball in Creighton's 3-0 win over Providence to secure the Big East regular season title and the number one seed in the conference tourney.  Keller scored what proved to be the insurance goal with an assist from Fabian Herbers and was part of a very solid Bluejay defensive effort. Creighton improves to 14-2-2 with a 7-1-1 record in Big East play.    
Jordi Lluch - Junior - Defender - Winthrop  Lluch was at the heart of a Winthrop defense that shutout Radford 1-0 on the road in a Big South Conference match. The Eagle center back anchored a stout defense that limited Radford to just four shots. Winthrop finished regular season play with a 12-4-1 overall record and a 6-2-1 mark in conference play. The Eagles recorded their first twelve win season since the 2008 campaign.  
Nils Leifhelm - Freshman - Goalkeeper - Rhode Island Leifhelm had twelve saves that included a key stop of a penalty kick to play a huge role in Rhode Island's 1-0 win over Duquesne. The Rams improve to 11-4-3 overall and finish regular season Atlantic 10 play with a 7-1-0 record to earn their first regular season title since 2005. Leifhelm finished regualr season play with eight shutouts while anchoring a defense that only allowed a total of four goals in conference play.

Andy Craven - Senior - Forward - North Carolina  Craven earns another spot on the College Soccer News Team of the Week after recording a hat trick to lead the Tar Heels past Georgia Southern 6-2. The trifecta increased Craven's goal total year to date to eleven. Craven's first goal was set up when he made a nice run and received a text book cross from teammate Alex Olofson. His second score came from eight yards out when he alertly sent a deflection into the net. His third score came from fifteen yards out after he made a nice move to create the space needed to finish.   
Nick DePuy - Sophomore - Forward - UCSB

DePuy netted the lone goal of the contest in overtime after receiving a cross from Ismaila Jome to give a very focused UC Santa Barbara side the edge they needed to defeat UC Davis 1-0.  He also scored from fifteen yards out and drove a header into the back of the frame from ten yards out with Ludwig Ahl providing the assist on both goals to help power the Gauchos past Cal Poly on the road before a sold out crowd at Spanos Stadium in San Luis Obispo. 

Andy Bevin - Senior - Forward - West Virginia  Bevin had another very productive week of play in which he played a key role in two Mountaineer wins. He contributed the assist out of a free kick on teammate Mike Desiderio's game winning goal in West Virginia's 1-0 win over Penn. He also netted a hat trick to lead the Mountaineers past Buffalo 3-0. West Virginia is now 10-6-1 overall with a 2-1-1 mark in Mid-American Conference play. 
Brandt Bronico - Sophomore - Midfielder - Charlotte Bronico scored the lone goal in Charlotte's 1-0 win over Wake Forest and also netted what proved to be the game winning goal with an assist from Monbo Bokar in Charlotte's 4-1 victory over Florida Atlantic. The 49ers continue to play well on both sides of the ball and improve to 13-2-1 overall with a 5-1-1 mark in CUSA action. 
Adam Najem - Sophomore - Midfielder - Akron Najem played a key role in two Akron wins. He contributed a hat trick to lead the Zips past Cleveland State 5-0 in a non-conference contest and converted a crucial penalty kick in Akrons's 2-1 win over Northern Illinois in an MAC matchup. Najem has scored ten goals to date including four game winners. The Zips improve to 10-5-1 with a 3-1-0 mark in MAC play.  
Jamie Dell - Senior - Midfielder - UNCW Dell has had a banner season for the Seahawks. He became the first UNCW player since 2005 to score ten goals in a single season when he found the back twice to lead the Seahawks past Drexel 3-0. His first goal came when he skillfully placed a shot just inside the near post after receiving a chip pass from junior forward Colin Bonner. His second score came out of a breakaway that was also set up by Bonner. UNCW improves to 12-3-2 with a 5-2-1 mark in CAA play. 
Colin McAtee - RS Junior - Midfielder - Michigan McAtee contributed a goal and an assist to help power the Wolverines past a good Oakland team 3-1. He also netted what proved to be the game winning goal off an assist from Ahinga Selemani to propel Michigan past Big Ten rival Michigan State 3-2 on the road to reclaim the Big Bear Trophy. McAtee has scored a total of eight goals so far this year. The Maize and Blue improve to 6-7-3 with a 3-2-2 mark in Big Ten play. 
Michael DiCesare - Senior - Midfielder - UMBC  DiCesare, a reserve midfielder, took advantage of the opportunity he was afforded on senior night and netted three goals to lead UMBC past Vermont 5-1. His first goal came from close range when he sloted a shot inside the near post after receiving a pass from Michael Scott. His second goal was from six yards out after receiving a well played ball from Kay Banjo. His third score came when he controlled and then sent a rebound of teammate Marquez Fernandez's shot into the back of the net to secure a hat trick.  
Corey Baird - Freshman - Midfielder - Stanford Baird and his teammates took to the road to secure a tie and a win in Pac-12 play. Baird scored twice in Stanford's 2-2 tie with UCLA. He recovered the rebound of Bobby Edwards' shot and skillfully slotted it back into the back of the net. He also sent a volley to the near post with Edwards and Zach Batteer combining for the assist. The Cardinal also defeated San Diego State 1-0 with redshirt senior Austin Meyer netting the game winner to improve to 10-2-3 overall with a 3-1-3 mark in Pac-12 play.     
Sergio Campbell - Senior - Defender - Connecticut Campbell anchored a stout Connecticut defense that shutout Ivy League foe Yale 1-0 in overtime and shutout American Athletic Conference opponent South Florida 1-0 to improve to 9-6-2 overall with a 6-1-1 marke in conference play. The win over South Florida avenged an earlier season loss to the Bulls and gave the revitalized Huskies the top seed in the upcoming American Athletic Conference Tournament.   
Phanuel Kavita - Senior - Defender - Clemson  Kavita was an important part of a very solid Clemson Tiger defense that shutout South Florida 3-0 and North Carolina State 2-0. Kavita also converted a penalty kick in the win over South Florida. A hot Clemson team is 5-0-1 in their last six contests to improve to 10-6-1 overall with a 5-2-1 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference action.  
Borga Angoitia - Senior - Goalkeeper - Quinnipiac Angoitia continues to be a force between the pipes for the Bobcats. He had five saves in goal to anchor a Quinnipiac defense that shutout Siena 2-0. In that contest he also was credited with the assist on teammate Machel Baker's insurance goal. He also had eight saves in goal as the Bobcats topped Iona 2-1 to secure the regular season MAAC title. Angoitia's play in goal is among the reasons that Quinnipiac is undefeated in their last eleven contests with a 9-4-4 overall record and 6-0-3 mark in conference play.   

 

College Soccer News National Team Of The Week - Week Ending October 26, 2014

Jamie Dubyoski - Junior - Forward - Navy Dubyoski creates opportunitites.  He scored twice to lead the Mids past UMBC 2-0.  He also created a turnover in the box which he deposited into the back of the net and assisted on teammate Geoff Fries' game winning goal to help Navy sink Holy Cross 2-1.  Dubyoski is among the reasons why the Mids have won six straight and are now 10-4-2 overall with a 5-1-0 mak in Patriot League play. He has scored in four straight games and has a total of six game winning goals so far this year.   
Cyle Larin - Sophomore - Forward - Connecticut  Larin scored twice to help power the Huskies past Temple 3-1 as head coach Ray Reid earned his 400th win. Larin also netted the game winning goal after receiving a pass from teammate Kwame Awuah in UConn's 2-1 win over SMU. The surging Huskies improve to 7-6-2 overall and move into first place in the American Athletic Conference with a 5-1-1 record. 
Jason Grant - Senior - Forward - Western Michigan  Grant's second goal of the 2014 season and the tenth of his carrear was a big one.  He slotted a shot into the lower corner of the goal from eighteen yards out off a double assist from teammates Greg Timmer and Sean Conerty to give the Broncos the edge they needed to secure a 1-0 on the road win over Akron in MAC play.  WMU improves to 8-4-3 overall and moves into first place in the MAC with a 2-0-1 record. 
Mamadee Nyepon - Senior - Forward - High Point  Nyepon scored twice and assisted on Renato Punyed's game winning goal in HPU's 3-2 overtime win over a very talented Winthrop team. He now has forty career goals to become High Point's all-time leader in goals scored.  His first score was a header placed just inside the far post off an assist from teammate Avery Ryan. His second shot was from close range after creating the space he needed to slot the ball into the back of the frame after receiving a ball from Ebe Kudolo.  HPU is now 7-6-1 with a 4-1-0 mark in Big South Conference play.  
Zach Bond - Sophomore - Forward - Rider  Bond and his Rider teammates had a productive week of play topping Saint Peter's 4-0 and Siena 6-1 in MAAC play to improve to 8-5-2 overal with a 5-3-0 mark in conference action to move into a tie for first place.  Bond alertly placed a rebound into the back of the net and skillfully lofted two shots into the goal to record a hat trick in the win over Saint Peter's. He also assisted on one of teammate Jose Aguinaga's two scores in the victory over Siena.  
Timi Mulgrew - Senior - Midfielder - George Mason  Mulgrew came up big once again scoring his 11th and 12th goals of the year to enable George Mason to come from behind to defeat the Davidson Wildcats 2-1 in overtime in Atlantic 10 play. Henning Dirks set up Mulgrew's first goal with a well played and timed cross into the box that Mulgrew headed into the goal. Mulgrew netted the game winner when he converted a penalty kick in overtime. The Patriots improve to 10-3-3 overall with a 3-2-1 win in A-10 play.  
Chris Wehan - RS Sophomore - Midfielder - New Mexico   Wehan scored from close range after receiving a through ball from Niko Hansen and sent a highlight reel blast into the back of the net from thirty yards out to lead New Mexico to a 4-0 win over Old Dominion is a CUSA match. The Lobos have now won six out of their last eight contests to improve to 10-3-1 with a 3-2-0 mark in conference play. 
Napo Matsoso - Sophomore - Midfielder - Kentucky   In a game of momentum shifts that required overtime to determine a winner, Matsoso netted a hat trick as Kentucky topped South Carolina 4-3 to move into first place in the CUSA standings. His first goal came from six yards out with a double assist from Charlie Reymann and Bryan Celis. His second goal was a rocket from twenty yards out with Celis providing the assist.  His third score came from within the box after receiving a pass from Justin Laird.  
Cory Brown - Freshman - Defender - Xavier  Brown who hails from New Zealand was a key part of a bend but don't break Xavier defensive effort that shutout a very good Marquette team 1-0 at Valley Fields in Milwaukee. After a rocky start the Muskeeters have now settled in and are unbeaten in their last nine contests during which time they have only allowed three goals. Xavier improves to 10-3-2 with a 4-0-2 mark in Big East play. Sophomore forward Jalen Brown scored the game winner for Xavier. 
Cole Seiler - Junior - Defender - Georgetown Seiler was a valuable part of a solid Georgetown defensive effort that enabled the Hoyas to shutout the Creighton Bluejays 1-0 at Morrison Stadium in Omaha in a pivotal Big East Conference contest. With the victory the Hoyas get back into the win column and improve to 8-3-4 with a 3-2-1 mark in conference play. Freshman midfielder Arun Basuljevic netted the game winning goal for Georgetown with an assist from senior forward Austin Martz.  
Wesley Matthews - Sophomore - Defender - Rhode Island The Ram center back anchored a defense that helped produce a 4-1 win over Massachusetts and a 2-0 shutout of Saint Joseph's. Matthews assisted on Dante Lamb's game winning goal in the win over Massachusetts and converted a header out of a free kick that proved to be the game winner in the contest with Saint Joseph's. The Rams are unbeaten in their past eleven matches to improve to 10-3-3 with a 6-0-0 mark in A-10 play.  
Austin Pack - Junior - Goalkeeper - Charlotte  Pack was outstanding between the pipes for the 49ers making the keep stops that he needed to make to put his team in position to prevail. He had four saves including several key stops in Charlotte's 0-0 tie on the road with Marshall.  He was rock solid in Charlotte's 1-0 win over UAB during which he recorded six saves. The 49ers improve to 11-2-1 with a 4-1-1 mark in CUSA play.  

 

College Soccer News National Team Of The Week - Week Ending October 19, 20144

Justin Laird - Senior - Forward - Kentucky  Laird and his Kentucky teammates had a productive week of play.  Laird scored and assisted on teammate Paul Sime's goal to help Kentucky top Evansville 5-1. He also one-timed a cross played in by Stefan Stojkovic into the back of the net to enable the Wildcats to defeat a very good New Mexico team 1-0 in a key CUSA contest. Kentucky is undefeated in their past six matches and now stands at 8-3-3 with a 3-0-2 mark in conference play. 
Markus Naglestad - RS Senior - Forward - Providence Naglestad made good use of his time on the pitch by contributing the insurance goal with a double assist from Mac Steeves and Dominik Machando in Providence's 2-0 win over Georgetown.  He also netted the game-winning goal in Providence's 3-2 victory over St. John's when he placed a shot into the bottom right corner of the net from the top of the box. Naglestad has scored seven times so far this year. The Friars improve to 8-2-1 overall with a 3-0-1 mark in Big East play. 
Guillermo Delgado - Sophomore -Forward - Delaware

Delgado is a playmaker who consistently finds the back of the net for the Blue Hens. He netted the game winning goal in double overtime to propel Delaware past Hofstra 2-1.  He also scored his tenth goal of the 2014 campaign in Delaware's 3-1 win over William and Mary.  The Blue Hens improve to 10-4-0 with a 3-1-0 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play.   

Ben Wignall - Freshman - Forward - Farifield Wignall scored from twelve yards out after receiving a cross from Jake Zuniga to help Fairfield defeat Manhattan 3-2.  Wignall also controlled the rebound of teammate Hrvoje Glaven's shot and slotted in into the goal to give the Stags a 1-0 win over Canisius College. Fairfield is unbeaten in its last five games to improve to 6-3-4 with a 3-1-2 mark in MAAC play. 
Alan Reiter - Senior - Midfielder - Davidson Reiter had a productive week of play for the Wildcats. He fired a shot from fifteen yards out that deflected off the cross bar amd into the net in the 95th minute of play to give Davidson a 2-1 win over the Duke Blue Devils.  His sixth goal of the 2014 campaign came when he alertly placed a rebound of teammate Luke Blades' shot into the back of the net in Davidson's 2-0 win over St. Bonaventure in an A-10 contest. The Wildcats are now 7-1-3 with a 1-1-1 mark in conference action.  
Jason Stacy - Junior - Midfielder - Michigan State Stacy powered a shot into the top right hand corner of the frame from twenty-five yards out and assisted on the goals scored by Zach Carroll and Fatai Alashe to help propell the Spartans past Western Michigan 4-0. He also scored from twenty yards out on a corner kick served in by teammate Dewey Lewis to help Michigan State defeat Penn State 2-0 to improve to 9-2-2 overall with a 3-1-1 mark in what has become a very close Big Ten Conference race.  
Patrick Hodan - Junior - Midfielder - Notre Dame  Hodan's penalty kick gave the Irish the edge they needed to top Northwestern 1-0.  He also displayed his skill with the ball at his feet by creating the space he needed to finish two scoring opportunities in Notre Dame's 4-1 win over ACC foe Duke. Hodan has scored five goals in Notre Dame's last four contests to help the Irish improve to 8-3-2 overall with a 4-1-1 mark in ACC play.  
Tim Schmoll - Junior - Midfielder - Harvard   Schmoll converted a header after receiving a cross from Andrew Chang in Harvard's 3-0 win over Holy Cross.  He also scored Harvard's lone goal with an assist from Kyle Henderson in their 1-1 on the road tie with Ivy League foe Brown.  The Crimson are now unbeaten in their last nine contests to improve to 8-3-1 overall with a 2-0-1 mark in Ancient Eight play. 
Bryan Breslin - Senior - Defender - UC Irvine  Breslin scored the lone goal of the contest when he volleyed a shot into the back of the net that was served in out of a corner kick by Gor Kirakosyan in the Anteater's 1-0 win over Cal State Fullerton in Big West Conference play.  He also was part of a solid UC Irvine defense lead by goalkeeper Michael Breslin that has recorded three consecutive shutouts. UC Irvine improves to 11-1-2 with a 3-1-1 mark in conference play. 
Tim Kubek - Freshman - Defender - Louisville Kubel continues to be a difference maker at Louisville. He converted a penalty kick that proved to be the game winning goal as Louisville topped FGCU 2-1 to halt a four game losing streak.  He also converted a penalty kick and assisted on teammate Jerry Ramirez's game winning goal to play a key role in Louisville's 2-1 upset win over highly regarded Syracuse.  The Cardinals improve to 7-5-1 with a 4-2-0 mark in ACC action.  
Wes Mink - Freshman - Goalkeeper - Oakland Mink anchors a stout Golden Grizzlie defense that has recorded five consecutive shutouts.  He recorded five saves in Oakland's 2-0 win over Milwaukee and five saves in their 2-0 victory over Belmont.  The Golden Grizzlies have won six straight to improve to 6-5-1 with a 5-0-1 record in Horizon League play.
