College Soccer News National Team Of The Week - Week Ending September 29, 2013

Jordan Morris - Freshman - Forward - Stanford

Morris scored twice to lead the Cardinal past UCSB at Harder Stadium.  His first goal was a header out of a free kick put into play by teammate Aaron Kovar.  His second score resulted from a ricochet that he decisively one-timed into the back of the net from twenty-five yards out.  Stanford has won five straight to improve to 5-1-1.   

Jake Pace - Senior - Forward - Maryland

Pace contributed the assist on teammate David Kabelik's goal in Maryland's 1-1 tie with Old Dominion and scored twice to lead the Terps past Pittsburgh 2-0. His first goal was a chip shot over the Pitt netminder. He also skillfully controlled and then sloted a rebound into the back of the net.  The Terps are now 3-2-3.  

Aaron Horvat - Sophomore - Forward - Milwaukee

Horvat was a scoring machine as he netted four goals to lead the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee past the University of Detroit 5-3.  He became the first UWM player to post a hat trick since Neil Dombrowski did so in 2005.  With the win the Panthers improve to 7-0-1 with a 1-0-0 mark in Horizon League play. 

Jamie Dubyoski - Sophomore - Forward - Navy 

Dubyoski had a productive week of play netting a pair of game winning goals.  Against Virginia Tech he utilized his left foot to slot a shot just inside the left post with assists from Grant Valenstein and Dave Arnold. He also one-timed a left footer into the back of the frame to give Navy the edge they needed to sink Boston University 1-0.  Navy is 4-3-2.  

  Andrew Brody - Freshman - Midfielder - Louisville

The highly regarded Louisville freshman is living up to expectations.  Brody provided the helper on Ricardo Velazco's goal and blasted a picture perfect shot into the back of the net from twenty-two yards out to help Louisville top Temple 3-0.  Brody has a team leading five assists to date.  The Cardinals improve to 6-2-0. 

Ken Tribbett - Senior - Midfielder - Drexel

Tribbett netted the insurance goal with an assist from teammate Adam Arana in Drexel's 2-0 win over Rutgers. He also contributed the game-winning goal when he blasted a shot from just outside the box that found its way into the back of the net in the Dragon's  2-1 win over William and Mary.  Drexel has rebounded to win five straight to improve to 5-2-1. 

Zach Steinberger - Junior - Midfielder - Butler

Steinberger and teammate forward David Goldsmith played key roles in two impressive Butler victories.   Goldsmith scored twice to help Butler come from behind to top Indiana 3-2.  Steinberger netted both goals in Butler's 2-0 Big East Conference win over Villanova.  A hot Butler side improves to 7-1-1.  

Enrique Cardenas - Senior - Midfielder - UC Irvine

Cardenas continues to make big plays for the Anteaters.  He skillfully sent a rebound of his own shot into the goal and placed a chip shot into the back of the net to lead UC Irvine to a 3-0 win over CSUB.  He contriubuted the assist on teammate Cameron Iwasa's goal.  Cardenas has six goals including three game-winners so far this year.  

Zach Bolden, Senior - Midfielder - Denver

Bolden assisted on freshman Eric Kronenberg's game-winning goal in Denver's 1-0 on the road win over Portland.  He also netted what proved to be the game-winning goal in Denver's 2-1 come from behind win over Cal Poly when he deftly placed a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal off an assist from teammate Reagan Dunk.  

Braedon Troyer - Junior - Defender - South Carolina

Troyer played in a key role in South Carolina's 2-1 on the road CUSA win over Charlotte.  He was solid on the defensive side of the ball and netted the game-winning goal for South Carolina when he collected a rebound out of a corner kick and drove it into the net from twenty-five yards out to give the Gamecocks the margin they needed to secure the win.  

Omar Zeenni - Senior - Goalkeeper - UC Davis

Zeenni had a big seven save night between the pipes making the key stops that he needed to make to give the Aggies the chance to upset New Mexico 2-1 in Albuquerque. UC Davis head coach Dwayne Shaffer stated, "I thought my team played really well tonight. We were organized, disciplined and did all the right things to win the game."
