National Team Of The Week

College Soccer News - Women's National Team Of The Week - Week Ending October 11, 2020

It was a week of very close contests during which playmakers on both sides of the ball came through in clutch situations to give their teams the edge they needed to prevail.

Mackenzie Anthony

Freshman

Forward

Baylor

Anthony intercepted a pass from outside the box and drove a shot into the far post from the left side of the box and assisted on teammate Taylor Moon's goal as Baylor combined solid play on the defensive side of the ball with an aggressive attack to top Kansas 2-0. The win was Baylor's first over a top-five team since 1997.

Amanda West

Sophomore

Forward

Pittsburgh

West converted a penalty kick and used her touch on the ball and quickness to create the space and angle she needed to deftly place a shot into the far corner of the goal to help power Pitt past Boston College 4-3. She also found the back of the net twice in Pitt's 4-1 win over Navy. The Panthers improve to 8-2-0.

Logan Dix

Senior

Forward

The Citadel

Dix converted a penalty kick and sent a header into the back of the net to play a key role in The Citadels 3-2 win over Mercer. Sophomore midfielder Ari Ford netted the game-winner for the Bulldogs in the 87th minute of play. The Citadel improves to 3-2-2.

Morgan Cross

Junior

Forward

South Alabama

Cross scored twice in South Alabama's closer than expected 3-2 win over rival Troy. Cross placed a shot into the right side of the net after receiving a well played through ball from midfielder Athanasia Moraitou. She also alertly controlled a loose ball near the six-yard box and skillfully sent it into the back of the frame. Freshman forward Izzy Ford scored what proved to be the game-winner for South Alabama. The Jaguars improve to 5-2-0.

Maddie Johnston

Freshman

Forward

Georgia State

Johnston's penalty kick gave Georgia State the edge they needed to slip past Appalachian State 1-0. She also contributed a goal with a helper from Kelsee Holloway in the Pathers 2-1 win in overtime against Coastal Carolina in which sophomore midfielder Jolie Ryff netted the game-winner. Georgia State is 6-1-1 overall with a 5-1-1 mark in Sun Belt Conference play.

Ava Tankersley

Freshman

Midfielder

Arkansas

Tankersley came up big for the Razorbacks when she created the space she needed at the top of the box to decisively drive a shot into the back of the frame in overtime to help Arkansas secure a closely contested 2-1 on the road win over Alabama. Arkansas is now 4-0-0.

Claudia Dipasupil

Sophomore

Midfielder

Tennessee

Dipasupil made good things happen for the Vols. She effectively utilized the time that she was on the pitch to contribute a helper on the goals scored by teammates Alicia Donley and Jaida Thomas in Tennessee's 2-1 win over SEC foe Missouri. The Vols are now 2-2-0.

Brandi Peterson

Junior

Defender

TCU

Mandy Warren scored for TCU in the 86th minute to force overtime. Peterson then produced the big play in overtime that TCU needed to secure a hard fought win when she sent a blast into the back of the frame from the top of the box to give TCU a 2-1 win over Oklahoma State. TCU wins its third consecutive contest to improve to 3-0-1.

Victoria MacIntosh

Senior

Defender

Arkansas State

Arkansas State was awarded a penalty kick in the 101st minute of play when freshman forward Darby Stotts was fouled in the box. MacIntosh calmly converted it to give Arkansas State a 1-0 win over a determined Texas Tech side. MacIntosh was also part of an Arkansas State defense anchored by senior goalkeeper Megan McClure that kept Texas Tech off the scoreboard. The Red Wolves improve to 7-0-0.

Caitlin Cosme

Senior

Defender

Duke

Cosme converted a penalty kick and was part of a solid Duke defensive effort that held Virginia Tech to only two shots. Cosme has scored three times so far this year. The Blue Devils improve to 3-1-2 overall.

Henslye Hancuff

Junior

Goalkeeper

Clemson

Hancuff had an eight save evening to anchor a solid Clemson defense that shutout Wake Forest 2-0 on senior night at Historic Riggs Field. The Tigers improve to 4-2-0 with a 3-2-0 mark in ACC play.
