National Team Of The Week

College Soccer News - Women's National Team of the Week - Week Ending October 4, 2020

The College Soccer News National Team of the Week recognizes individual performers on both sides of the ball who played a key role in the level of success that their team experienced during the week.  

Sarah Sodoma

Senior

Arkansas State

Sodoma contributed the assist on freshman midfielder Abigail Miller's game-winner in Arkansas State's 1-0 win over Little Rock. Sodoma also scored twice to help power the Red Wolves to a 3-0 win over Louisiana Monroe. Arkansas State improves to 6-0-0 during which time they have scored a total of fifteen goals while allowing only one.  

Kiki Van Zanten

Notre Dame

 

Van Zanten is an impact player who has made the most of the time she has been on the pitch for the Irish. She contributed a goal in Notre Dame's 2-0 win over Boston College and scored twice in their 2-0 victory over Syracuse. Notre Dame improves to 3-1-0 after a season opening loss to FSU. 

Monigo Karnley

Mississippi State

Karnley gave the Bulldogs the edge they needed to top Ole Miss 1-0 when she skillfully created the angle she needed to thread a shot into the back of the frame out of a corner kick. The win was the first for Mississippi State over Mississippi in Oxford since 2001. The Bulldogs are now 1-0-2. 

Yazmeen Ryan

TCU

Ryan is a difference maker who made her presence known once again. Ryan  was fouled and awarded a penalty kick which she cleanly finished to give TCU a hard fought 1-0 win over Iowa State. The goal was her 18th career goal and 10th career  game-winner. TCU is now 2-0-1.  

MacKenzie Gibbs

Coastal Carolina

Gibbs came through in the clutch for the Chants. She  utilized her left foot to place a shot that tipped off the right post and into the back of the frame with only 44 ticks left on the clock in the second overtime period to give Coastal Carolina a 1-0 win over Appalachian State. The Chants improve to 3-1-0. 

Emina Ekic

Louisville 

Ekic is a playmaker. She found the back of the net twice and contributed an assist in Louisville's 3-0 win over Syracuse. She followed that up with a goal and an assist to play a key role in Louisville's 2-0 win over Boston College. The Cardinals improve to 3-1-0.  

Abby Boyan

Georgia

Boyan contributed her second game-winning goal of the young season for the Bulldogs when she displayed nice touch on the ball to create the space she needed to drive a shot into the left side of the net in a 1-0 win over Tennessee. Georgia is 2-0-1 and off to their best start in Southeastern Conference play since 2009.  

Malia Berkely

Florida State

FSU has been impressive on both sides of the ball. Berkely was part of a tenacious Seminole defense that limited Virgina Tech to one shot on goal in a 4-0 win and Wake Forest to two shots on goal in a 4-0 win. FSU is 4-0-0 to date during which time they have scored 14 goals and allowed none.  

Alex Augustyn

Louisiana

Augustyn contributed the assists on the goals scored by teammates Una Einarsdottir and Lizzie Mayfield and was part of a Ragin' Cajuns backline that held Louisiana Tech to only two shots on goal in a 2-0 win over the Lady Techsters. Louisiana also shutout Texas State 1-0 to  improve to 5-3-0 overall.  

Maycee Bell

Bell was part of a rock solid Tar Heel backline that held Clemson to two shots on goal in North Carolina's 2-0 win over the Tigers in this Atlantic Coast Conference contest. The Tar Heels improve to 4-0-0 during which time they have scored eight goals and only allowed one.   

Jennifer Wandt

Baylor 

Wandt anchored a Baylor defense that shutout a high octane Oklahoma State offense to secure a 0-0 draw. Wendt had a six save evening and established a new Baylor program record with her 28th career shutout. The contest was a young Butler teams third scoreless game of the season. Baylor is 0-1-3.
