College Soccer News - National Team of the Week - Week Ending December 1, 2019

College Soccer News' National Team of the Week recognizes individual performers on both sides of the ball who played a key role in helping their team advance to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. This is the last CSN National Team of the Week for the 2019 season.

Bayham took advantage of a miscue to secure a loose ball and create the angle he needed to drive a shot into the back of the frame from the top of the box in the second overtime period to give the Gauchos a 1-0 win over Indiana. The goal was Bayham's tenth of the season. UCSB advances to the Elite Eight to face Wake Forest.  

Kyle Holcomb

Wake Forest 

Holcomb converted a header and one-timed a shot into the net to help power Wake Forest by Michigan 3-1. He has scored a total of nine times so far this year. The Demon Deacons improve to 15-4-2 and advance to the Elite Eight for the  fourth time in the last five seasons.

Clemson

Robinson continues to come up big in the clutch for the Tigers. He scored Clemson's lone goal in regulation after making a nice move to elude two defenders to create the angle he needed to score from eighteen yards out. He also converted a penalty kick in the second overtime period to give Clemson the edge they needed to top a game Providence team 2-1. 

Daniel Steedman

Virginia 

Steedman contributed two assists out of corner kicks in Virginia's 3-0 victory over St. John's. He has two goals and six assists year to date. Virginia improves to 19-1-1 and advances to the Elite Eight were they will face number eight seed SMU. 

Derek Waldeck

Waldeck scored with a double assist from Zach Ryan and Logan Panchot and contributed the helper on teammate Keegan Hughes' game-winner in Stanford's 2-1 victory over a very competitive Virginia Tech team. The number seven seeded Cardinal advance to the Elite Eight for the fifth season in a row where they will tangle with number two seed Clemson.  

Jacob Montes

Montes sent a bending ball into the back of the net in just the second minute of play and added another goal out of a free kick. He also assisted on the goals scored by teammates Jack Beer and Paul Rothrock to help the Hoyas power past Louisville 5-1 to advance to the Elite Eight.

Bartlow scored what proved to be the game-winning goal and also converted a penalty kick in Washington's 4-1 win over a very good Marshall team. He was also part of a solid Washington defense. The number six seeded Huskies advance to the Elite Eight where they will face number three seed Georgetown. 

Mateo Restrepo Mejia

Defensive midfielder Mateo Restrepo Mejia was part of a bend but don't break UCSB defense that shutout Indiana 1-0 and limited the Hoosiers to only two shots on goal. The Gauchos advance to the Elite Eight where they will face Wake Forest.

The Mustang defender from McKinney, Texas made a nice run down the wing and drove a shot into the far post from just inside the box after receiving a pass from Noah Hilt to give SMU the edge they needed to top a very good UCF team 2-1. in overtime. The Ponies advance to face Virginia in Charlottesville on Saturday.

Ueland was part of a Cavalier defense that defeated St. John's 3-0 to record its fifteenth shutout of the year. He also contributed two headers out of corner kicks in the win over the  Red Storm. Number one seed Virginia advances to the Elite Eight where they will host SMU on Saturday.

Makela had five saves in goal to anchor a bend but don't break SMU defense that held a very explosive UCF offense to one goal to secure a 2-1 win in overtime. SMU advances to the Elite Eight for the first time since the 2010 season where they will face number one seed Virginia.
