College Soccer News - National Team of the Week - Week Ending September 24, 2017

Luca Mayr - Sophomore - Forward - South Carolina Mayr scored what proved to be the game-winner after receiving a through ball from teammate Christoffer Wallander giving the Gamecocks the edge they needed to top previously undefeated Furman 1-0. Mayr also provided the helper in Justin Sukow's goal in South Carolina's 2-2 tie with New Mexico. 
Alan Winn - Senior - Forward - North Carolina Winn earns a repeat selection to the CSN National Team of the Week. He scored twice in UNC's 4-1 win over George Washington and utilized his left foot to send a blast into the back of the frame to help the Tar Heels top Virginia 2-1 in overtime. Jelani Pieters netted the game-winner for the Tar Heels in the win over Virgina.  
Marcelo Acuna - Senior - Forward - Virginia Tech Acuna converted a penatly kick in Virginia Tech's 2-1 win over Davidson. He also scored twice to play a key role in Virgina Tech's 2-1 win over previously undefeated Notre Dame. The Hokies improve to 4-4-0. 
Severnin Soerlie - RS Sophomore - Forward - Gardner-Webb Soerlie drove a header into the back of the frame out of a corner kick and alertly took advantage of a turnover to net the game-winner in the 102nd minute of play to give Garner-Webb the edge they needed to upset Furman 5-4 in double overtime on the road. The Runnin'Bulldogs improve to 3-2-1 on the season. 
Scott Menzies - RS Senior - Forward - Washington Menzies came off the pine to jump start the Huskie attack with two first half goals and a third in the second stanza to power Washington to a 4-0 win over Utah Valley.  He also contributed an assist in Washington's 2-0 win Sunday evening over Seattle. The Huskies have now won four straight to improve to 6-2-0.  
Arthur Bosua - Senior - Forward - Columbia  Bosua found the back of the net twice in Columbia's 2-0 win over the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils. Danny Laranetto contributed the helper on Bosua's first goal while Beto Carillo provided the assist on the second. Columbia improves to 4-0-2. 
Phillip Goodrum - Sophomore - Midfielder - UNCW Goodrum scored twice in the second half of play to help propel the Seahawks to a solid 2-1 win over William and Mary in a key Colonial Athletic Association contest that took place in Williamsburg, Virginia.  UNCW has won three straight to up their record to 6-1-0. 
Cory Thomas - Redshirt Junior - Midfielder - Indiana Thomas has been adding an additional dimension to Indiana's attack. He contributed two goals in IU's 5-0 thumping of Rutgers. His first score came off a double assist from teammates Spencer Glass and Thomas Warr. Thomas netted his second goal after receiving a well played cross form Austin Panchot.  
Ross McPhie - Junior - Midfielder - Cal State Fullerton  McPhie continues to make big plays for the Titans. He alertly headed a rebound into the back of the goal to give Cal State Fullerton the edge they needed to top UNLV 1-0. The goal was McPhie's fourth to date and enabled the Titans who look to be gaining momentum to improve to 5-3-1. 
Willis Griffith - Graduate Student - Defender - New Hampshire Griffith who is a transfer from Northwestern has has been a solid addition to the New Hampshire backline and an important part of a tenacious Wildcat defense anchored by goalkeeer Andrew Pesci that has only allowed one goal in eight contests this year. New Hampshire shutout Quinnipiac on the road Saturday to improve to 6-0-2. 
Lennart Hein - Junior - Defender - Saint Louis Hein was part of a very solid Saint Louis defense that allowed highly regarded Stanford only one shot of goal in route to a 2-0 win. The Billikens have not allowed a goal in three consecutive contests to improve to 2-3-1 overall.  
David Enstrom - Senior - Defender - St. John's  Enstrom was part of a solid Red Storm defensive effort that shutout Xavier 3-0. He also contributed an assist on the first of two goals scored by freshman forward Jack Shearer. St. John's improves to 5-2-1 with a 2-0-0 mark in Big East Conference play.   
Jimmy Hague - RS Junior - Goalkeeper - Michigan State Hague continues to take care of business between the pipes for the Spartans. He had seven saves to record his seventh shutout of the still young 2017 season in Michigan State's 0-0 tie with Maryland in a key Big Ten Conference contest. The Spartans are 7-0-1 overall with a 2-0-1 mark in conference action.
