College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Week Ending September 29, 2013

Aaron Horvat - Sophomore - Forward - Milwaukee -

Horvat tied the Horizon League and Milwaukee record when he scored four goals to power the Panthers past the University of Detroit 5-3.  He also became the first Milwaukee player since Neil Dombrowski in 2005 to record a hat trick. Panther head coach Kris Kelderman who is in his second season at the helm of the program stated, "Aaron had a fantastic performance today. Not only did he score four times, but they were all really nice goals.  The build-up on all of his goals was very nice combination play, but he finished with beautiful goals."  

Horvat's first goal of the evening was a header off an assist from teammate Austin Toth.  He netted his second goal after receiving a well played cross with a double assist from Rami Younes and Robbie Boyd.  Junior midfielder Luke Goodnetter assisted on Horvat's third goal and the fourth was unassisted.  

UWM is off to an impressive 7-0-1 start.  The Panthers will place their undefeated record on the line when they travel to Nebraska to face Omaha on Wednesday, October 2.   


College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Week Ending September 22, 2013

Harrison Shipp - Senior - Forward - Notre Dame -  

Shipp who hails from Lake Forest, Illinois and is the Irish team captain has recorded at least one point in each of Notre Dame's last four contests. This week he scored the game-winning goal from ten yards out and assisted on teammate Leon Brown's goal in Notre Dame's 3-0 win over the Michigan Wolverines.  He also netted the equalizer after receiving a cross from teammate Vince Cicciarelli in Notre Dame's 1-1 tie on the road with Boston College.  

The Irish remain unbeaten on the season with a 3-0-3 overall record and a 1-0-2 mark in Atlantic Coast Conference play.  They return to the pitch on Friday when they host Duke in an ACC matchup.   

College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Week Ending September 15, 2013

Joey Calistri - Sophomore - Forward - Northwestern -  

Calistri had another extremely productive week of soccer for the Wildcats.  He netted a hat trick to lead Northwestern to a 4-0 win over Green Bay to record the first hat trick by a Northwestern player since the 2008 season.  He also scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in Northwestern's 2-0 win over Butler.  Calistri was the hands down choice for the Most Valuable Player of the NIU Tournament.  

Northwestern head coach Tim Lenahan stated, "A great win for us, great to be champions of the NIU tournament.  I thought it was a really strong weekend for us, obvioulsy with Joey Calistri with four goals being the highlight."  

The Wildcats have now won four in a row without allowing a goal after losing their season opener.  They next take to the pitch when they host Saint Mary's on Friday, September 20 and Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday September 22 in the Lakeside Classic.  

College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Week Ending September 8, 2013

Pete Caringi III - Senior - Forward - UMBC 

Caringi continues to be a difference maker at UMBC.  He contributed a pair of goals to lead the Retrievers to a 3-1 win over Central Connecticut State.  He also scored twice to help UMBC secure a 3-1 victory over St. Francis Brooklyn.  UMBC is off to a 4-0-0 start during which time Caringi has netted a total of eight goals including three game-winners.  Caringi is now number seven on UMBC's all-time goal scoring list and the Retrievers are off to their best start since beginning the 2009 season with a 9-0-0 record.     

UMBC will take its undefeated record on the road when they travel to face Radford on Saturday, September 14.
