College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Richie Laryea - Akron - Week Ending October 18, 2015

Richie Laryea - Sophomore - Midfielder - Akron

Laryea recorded a hat trick to lead Akron past Northern Illinois 4-0 in a MAC contest. His first score was a putback of a deflection of teammate Goncalo Soares shot on goal. His second score came when he controlled and slotted a deflection of teammate Sam Gainford's shot back into the net. Laryea's final goal of the evening came after a nice move out of a give and go with assists from Goncalo Soares and Gainford. Laryea has now scored nine goals to date including three game-winners and has contributed three helpers. 

Akron has now won six straight to improve to 10-2-1 with a 2-0-0 mark in MAC play. The Zips return to the pitch on Wednesday when they host Michigan State out of the Big Ten Conference at FirstEnergy Stadium.  They then travel to face Western Michigan on Saturday in Kalamazoo at 1 p.m. in a MAC game.  

College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Mauro Cichero, SMU - Week Ending October 11, 2015

Mauro Cichero - Sophomore - Forward - SMU 

Cichero is a playmaker and difference maker. He has scored a total of eight goals and contributed four assists so far this year and is among the reasons why SMU is off to a 9-2-2 overall record with an impressive 4-0-0 mark in American Athletic Conference play. The Norman, Oklahoma native continues to come up big for the Mustangs. This week he netted the insurance goal in SMU's 3-1 on the road win over Memphis with an assist from sophomore midfielder Bryce Clark. In addition, Cichero's header after receiving a cross from sophmore defender Jared Rice who has a total of seven helpers so far this year proved to be the game-winner in SMU's 1-0 win at home over Connecticut.

The Mustangs will travel to face Cincinnati on Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Gettler Stadium in what looks to be another challenging American Athletic Conference match. The Mustangs then close out regular season play with Tulsa at home, South Florida in Tampa, and Temple at home.   

College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Week Ending October 4, 2015

Nick DePuy - Junior - Forward - UC Santa Barbara

DePuy and his UCSB teammates had a productive week of play recording key Big West Conference wins on the road over UC Irvine 3-1 and CSUN 2-1 in overtime. DePuy scored what proved to be the game-winner from close range after receiving a pass from Randy Mendoza in the victory over UC Irvine. He scored twice including the game-winner in overtime in the win over CSUN. DePuy's first goal in the contest with CSUN was a header that was set up by a cross from Andy Perez. The game-winning goal occurred when DePuy controlled the rebound of teammate Ahinga Selemani's shot and alertly returned it into the net from close range. 

DePuy has now netted a total of ten goals year to date. The Gauchos are 13-0-3 all-time when DePuy finds the back of the net.

UC Santa Barbara improves to 7-3-1 with a 2-0-0 mark in Big West Conference action. The Gauchos will seek to keep their current three game winning streak and undefeated record in conference play alive when they host UC Riverside on Thursday and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday.  

College Soccer News National Player Of The Week - Week Ending September 27, 2015

Kyle Bjornethun - Junior - Defender - Seattle University

Bjornethun who is from Snohomish, Washington came up big for the Redhawks when he scored two times in a two minute span with time running out in regulation to give Seattle a 2-1 come from behind win over Oregon State in Corvalis. His first goal came at the 88:24 minute mark after he controlled a ball in the box and slotted it into the back of the frame with an assist from Hamza Haddadi.  His second score came at the 89:45 minute mark when he converted a picture perfect header after receiving a cross served in by Michael Roberts.

Bjornethun was also a key factor in Seattle's 2-1 win over Washington before a record breaking crowd at Championship Field in Seattle. David Olsen and Hamza Haddadi contributed the goals for Seattle in that win.  

Seattle secures two wins over highly regarded opponents to improve to 7-2-0 year to date. The Redhawks will seek to keep the magic alive and Championship Field rocking when they host Kansas City next Friday and Air Force on Sunday in Western Athletic Conference action.
