College Soccer News - National Player of the Week - VCU Midfielder Rafael Andrade Santos - Week Ending October 29, 2017

Rafael Andrade Santos Senior Midfielder  VCU

Santos scored twice to play a key role in VCU's 3-0 upset win over Maryland. His first goal was a picture perfect rocket into the back of the frame from thirty yards out. His second shot was a well placed one-timer into the back post from five yards out that was set up by a pass from Eli Lockaby and a subsequent cross from Slad Haji.

Santos also contributed a goal and an assist in VCU's 2-1 win over Atlantic-10 foe Rhode Island. He sent a blast into the lower left corner of the goal from eighteen yards out and was credited with the assist on teammate Francesco Amorosino's game-winning goal in the win over Rhode Island.

VCU improves to 10-4-0 overall with a 6-1-0 mark in conference play.

The Rams will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to face St. Bonaventure to close out regular season play.

College Soccer News - National Player of the Week - SMU Forward Garrett McLaughlin - Week Ending October 22, 2017

Garrett McLaughlin Sophomore Forward SMU 

McLaughlin had a very productive four goal week for the Mustangs. He scored twice in SMU's 2-0 win over Oral Roberts and netted both of SMU's goals in their 2-0 on the road win over Cincinnati.

McLaughlin has recorded multiple goals in three of the Ponies last four matches and has found the back of the net a total of twelve times so far this year.

SMU is now 12-2-0 overall with a 4-1-0 mark in American Athletic Conference play.

McLaughlin (12g, 2a) and teammate Mauro Cichero (9g, 7a) have powered an SMU offense that has netted a total of thirty goals to date while the SMU defense led by backs Jordan Cano, Talen Maples, Eddie Munjoma, Philip Ponder, Jared Rice and goalkeeper Michael Nelson have limited opponents to a total of nine goals to date. 

SMU will travel to face USF in Tampa on Sunday, October 29 in what shapes up to be a crucial AAC contest.  

College Soccer News - National Player of the Week - Maryland Midfielder Eryk Williamson - Week Ending October 15, 2017

Eryk Williamson Junior Midfielder  Maryland

Williamson powered the Terp attack with three second half goals to help Maryland come from behind to top Wisconsin on the road. It was the 400th win for Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski who is one of just two active coaches with 400 victories. 

Maryland improves to 10-0-3 with a 5-0-2 mark in Big Ten play.

Williamson and his Terp teammates have a difficult contest coming up on Tuesday when they will welcome Georgetown to Ludwig Field.


College Soccer News - National Player of the Week - Missouri State Goalkeeper Liam Priestley - Week Ending October 8, 2017

Liam Priestley Senior  Goalkeeper Missouri State

Priestley has been rock solid in goal for a very solid Missouri State team that has posted eight shutouts so far this year including their last six contests in a row. This week the Bears shutout Oral Roberts 1-0 and Bradley 1-0 on the road in Missouri Valley Conference contests to improve to 8-2-1 overall with a 4-0-0 mark in conference play.

Priestley continues to come up with the key stops he needs to make to give his team the opportunity to prevail. In the contest with Oral Roberts he had eight saves including a crucial stop of a penalty kick.

Priestley and his Missouri State teammates will seek to build on their seven game winning streak when they host Drake in a Missouri Valley Conference match on Saturday.
