Indiana Back Andrew Gutman - College Soccer News National Player of the Week - September 2, 2018

Andrew Gutman Senior Defender  Indiana University 

Gutman played a key role in Indiana's wins over Dartmouth and Connecticut.  He scored Indiana's first goal in their 3-0 win over Dartmounth when he sent a header into the back of the frame out of a free kick with a double assist from teammates Cory Thomas and Trevor Swartz.  He also was credited with an assist along with Spencer Glass in Griffin Dorsey's goal. 

Gutman decisively sent a header into the back of the net out of a corner kick put in play by Trevor Swartz to net the lone goal in IU's 1-0 win over Connecticut. 

Based on his play on both sides of the ball, Gutman was named the MVP of the 2018 adidas/IU Credit Union Classic.    

Indiana has now won three in a row to improve to 3-1-0.  The Hoosiers have not allowed a goal since opening the season with a 2-1 loss in overtime to Wake Forest in Winston Salem. 

The Hoosiers return to the pitch on Friday, September 7 when they welcome VCU to Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. 

 

Denver Forward Andrew Shinyashiki - College Soccer News National Player of the Week - August 27, 2018

Andrew Shinyashiki Senior   Forward University of Denver 

Shinyashiki was a force in Denver's season opening 4-0 win over Monmouth. He powered the Pioneer attack with a three goal and one assist evening becoming the first Denver player since the 2013 season to record a hat trick.

It was an impressive and confidence building season opening win for Shinyashiki and his Denver teammates. 

The Pioneers now shift their focus to what shapes up to be an excellent and extremely competitive college soccer contest on Thursday when they host the University of Washington.    

 

 

 

College Soccer News - National Player of the Week - Akron Senior Forward Sam Gainford - Week Ending November 26, 2017

Gainford and teammate Stuart Holthusen continue to power a high powered Akron offense. Gainford scored from twenty-five yards out and sent a bending ball into the side of the net to contribute two goals in Akron's 3-2 win in overtime over a very good Wisconsin team.  Holthusen provided the game-winning goal for the Zips in overtime.

Gainford has scored ten goals so far this year and contributed three assists. Holthusen has found the back of the net twelve times and contributed three helpers.

Number five seed Akron improves to 18-3-1 and now advances to the Elite Eight  where they will face number four seed Louisville on Friday, December 1.  

 

College Soccer News - National Player of the Week - Butler Sophomore Forward Brandon Guhl - Week Ending November 19, 2017

Brandon Guhl Sophomore  Forward  Butler 

Guhl and his Butler teammates had a productive week of play. Guhl scored twice to help power the Bulldogs to a 2-0 win over Lipscomb in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. He also scored what proved to be the game-winner in Butler's 3-2 come from behind road win over number sixteen seed VCU.

Guhl is a difference maker who has scored a total of thirteen goals this year including five game-winners.

Butler improves to 14-4-2 and advances to the Sweet Sixteen for the third time in the history of the program.

The Bulldogs out of the Big East Conference will travel to Winston-Salem to square off with number one seed Wake Forest out of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Saturday at 5 p.m.
