College Soccer News - National Player of the Week - Maryland Midfielder Eryk Williamson - Week Ending October 15, 2017

Williamson powered the Terp attack with three second half goals to help Maryland come from behind to top Wisconsin on the road. It was the 400th win for Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski who is one of just two active coaches with 400 victories. 

Maryland improves to 10-0-3 with a 5-0-2 mark in Big Ten play.

Williamson and his Terp teammates have a difficult contest coming up on Tuesday when they will welcome Georgetown to Ludwig Field.

 

College Soccer News - National Player of the Week - Missouri State Goalkeeper Liam Priestley - Week Ending October 8, 2017

Priestley has been rock solid in goal for a very solid Missouri State team that has posted eight shutouts so far this year including their last six contests in a row. This week the Bears shutout Oral Roberts 1-0 and Bradley 1-0 on the road in Missouri Valley Conference contests to improve to 8-2-1 overall with a 4-0-0 mark in conference play.

Priestley continues to come up with the key stops he needs to make to give his team the opportunity to prevail. In the contest with Oral Roberts he had eight saves including a crucial stop of a penalty kick.

Priestley and his Missouri State teammates will seek to build on their seven game winning streak when they host Drake in a Missouri Valley Conference match on Saturday.

College Soccer News - National Player of the Week - Wake Forest Midfielder Ema Twumasi -Week Ending October 1, 2017

Ema Twumasi Sophomore Midfielder  Wake Forest 

Twumasi came up big for the Demon Deacons when he skillfully directed a shot inside the far post in the 89th minute of play to give Wake Forest a 2-1 come from behind win over a good South Carolina team. Senior forward Jon Bakero provided the assist on the goal.

Twumasi also scored Wake Forest's first two goals in their 3-2 victory over fellow ACC foe and nationally ranked Clemson in overtime. Senior midfielder Steven Echevarria netted the game-winner for the Demon Deacons in the 103rd minute of play. 

Wake Forest improves to 10-1-0 overall and moves forward to face nationally ranked North Carolina on Friday, October 6 in what promises to be another outstanding college soccer contest.

 

College Soccer News - National Player of the Week - Virginia Tech Forward Marcelo Acuna - Week Ending September 24, 2017

Acuna is a difference maker for the Hokies.  He converted a penalty kick after teamate Elias Tamburini was taken down in the box to help the Hokies defeat Davidson 2-1. Acuna also came up big for Virginia Tech when he scored twice to help power the Hokies past previously unbeaten Notre Dame 2-1 in an Atlantic Coast Conference contest.  

Virgina Tech goalkeeper Ben Lundgaard also had an impressive evening in the win over the Irish recording ten saves betweem the pipes.     

The victories give the Hokies momentum as they improve to 4-4-0 overall heading into a non-conference contest Tuesday against Longwood before traveling to face Boston College on Friday in ACC play.
