Georgetown Forward Achara - College Soccer News National Player of the Week - Week Ending September 23, 2018

Achara Junior Forward Georgetown 

Achara played a key role in two significant Georgetown wins.  He scored the game-winning goal in the Hoyas 1-0 on the road win over highly regarded Duke,  He also netted the game-winning goal in overtime in Georgetown's 2-1 win over DePaul in a Big East Conference contest. 

Acura has scored four goals to date including three game-winners. 

Georgetown is now 5-2-1 overall with a 1-1-0 mark in conference play. 

The Hoyas have a chance to enhance their standing when they host nationally ranked Louisville in a non-conference contest on Tuesday.     

 

Denver Forward Andrew Shinyashiki - College Soccer News National Player of the Week - September 16, 2018

Andrew Shinyashiki  Senior Forward  University of Denver

Shinyashiki is named the College Soccer News National Player of the Week for the second time this year after a five goal weekend.  He scored twice to lead Denver past Harvard 3-1 and three times to power the Pioneer attack in a 3-0 win over San Francisco. 

Shinyashiki has scored a total of thirteen goals including three hat tricks in seven contests so far this year. His ability to create and finish scoring opportunities has helped the Pioneers secure a 6-0-1 record to date. 

Shinyashiki and his Denver teamates will seek to up their win total when they travel to face Omaha on Saturday, September 22.

 

 

Kentucky Forward JJ Williams - College Soccer News National Player of the Week - September 9, 2018

JJ Williams Junior  Forward  Kentucky 

Williams came up big for the Big Blue Nation when he scored twice in the first half of play to propel Kentucky past in-state rival Louisville 3-0.  His first goal when he made a nice move to create space after receiving a well played long ball from teammate Tanner Hummel.  His second goal was a header set up by a pass from Hummel and a cross from Marcel Meinzer. 

Williams also contributed the insurance goal with an assist from Meinzer in Kentucky's 2-0 win on the road over UAB in CUSA play. 

The Wildcats are off to a 4-0-0 start for the first time since the 2009 season. 

Williams and his Kentucky teamates will seek to keep their win streak alive when they travel to Cincinnati to face Xavier on Tuesday. 



 

Indiana Back Andrew Gutman - College Soccer News National Player of the Week - September 2, 2018

Andrew Gutman Senior Defender  Indiana University 

Gutman played a key role in Indiana's wins over Dartmouth and Connecticut.  He scored Indiana's first goal in their 3-0 win over Dartmounth when he sent a header into the back of the frame out of a free kick with a double assist from teammates Cory Thomas and Trevor Swartz.  He also was credited with an assist along with Spencer Glass in Griffin Dorsey's goal. 

Gutman decisively sent a header into the back of the net out of a corner kick put in play by Trevor Swartz to net the lone goal in IU's 1-0 win over Connecticut. 

Based on his play on both sides of the ball, Gutman was named the MVP of the 2018 adidas/IU Credit Union Classic.    

Indiana has now won three in a row to improve to 3-1-0.  The Hoosiers have not allowed a goal since opening the season with a 2-1 loss in overtime to Wake Forest in Winston Salem. 

The Hoosiers return to the pitch on Friday, September 7 when they welcome VCU to Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
